Beyond the paparazzi of photo-ops we know that the General Hospital in Epe, the original home constituency of Speaker Ikuforiji is in tatters and such a deplorable condition:

Beyond the physically deteriorating situation with many of the health facilities, the working conditions for the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians etc is nothing to write home about hence regular strikes. However our excellent governor's reaction is to sack them and ferry his sick father abroad for treatment:

******************************************************

Since Fashola spuriously claims he sacked the doctors to protect public interest, we should ask: If the governor is to protect the people, why did he send his own father abroad for treatment? Why are the necessary medical equipment not available in Lagos hospitals since we have medical experts that can treat his father here?
"Why has he resorted to the use of incompetent 'referral doctors' who are being enticed with a wage twice what they ought to have been paid if they are in regular employment? CONMESS fully, according to the Lagos NMA, would cause just additional N33.5 million monthly, compared to its looting spree to line private hands and profiteers," the statement reads in part.

This is a typical Nigerian problem, maintenance. Instituting and running such a sophisticated center requires alot of political will and commitment. I remember when Fashola commissioned the centre, I told my colleagues that it was a political stunt and an accolade grabbing act, used to drain Lagos money into his pocket.
I would however pick holes in the article, some statements there are far from the truth. Telling us that the Profs and Consultants abandoned the equipments cos they couldn't operate them is laughable at best and negates what the last correspondent said.

I concur with ur view however, I believe they left because of the inefficiency of the machines rather than not knowing how to handle them.
Telling us they left because they couldn't handle the machines is nothing but being economical with the truth.

I have noticed that APC is anti health from Lagos to Imo state and to their leader Buhari who appropriated more funds to Aso rock clinic than all the federal teaching hospitals combined yet flies to London for check up.

TTC in talks to sell old trains to Lagos. Are they safe enough?
AUGUST 10, 2011

As Toronto trainspotters gleefully take maiden rides on the TTC's Rocket, commuters in Lagos, Nigeria may be about to get some new trains of their own. Our old ones.

A TTC spokesperson has confirmed that the commission is negotiating with a private group to sell up to 260 used train cars to the West African megacity's new transit project.

"I can confirm that the TTC is in discussion with a third party that wants to purchase trains for Lagos," said commission spokesperson Brad Ross. "Over a period of time, they will be taken out of service and then transported over to Nigeria."

The cars being considered for sale are the TTC's old H-5 and H-6 models, which will be decommissioned as the TTC rolls out its new fleet of Rockets. Ross predicts the earliest they could be shipped to Nigeria is sometime in 2012.

Traffic snarls are already a major economic problem in the Nigerian capital, a booming city that will reach an estimated population of 25 million by 2015. A new above-ground rail system designed to carry 1.5 million people a day has already broken ground, and Lagos Governor Babtunde Fashola has said it "will be the most multi-dimensional and most impactful" of the government's efforts to reduce traffic congestion.

Fashola visited Toronto earlier this year to inspect the TTC trains.

The Lagos deal would be the first of its kind for the TTC. Decommissioned cars are usually sold for scrap metal and can fetch up to $1,500 dollar each. While Ross declined to discuss specific figures, he says the sticker price for Lagos is "significantly more" than scrap prices, putting the potential profits to the TTC in the millions of dollars.

It is not unusual for technology from western nations to end up in poorer countries. Marketplaces in Africa and Asia are flooded with North American clothes, computers, and even cars, but the purchase of larger technology like trains is rarer.

The cars will have to be significantly refurbished to fit existing infrastructure in Lagos, and some Nigerian media reports have lamented that the government appears to have settled on "tokundo," or used, trains instead of brand new vehicles.

Although half the cars are more than 30 years old, Ross is adamant they are perfectly safe and are only being decommissioned for capacity reasons. But he also admitted the TTC is not required to make sure the cars meet any safety standards before selling them.

"Once sold, it's up to the new operator to ensure they are in good working order," he said. "They do need to be maintained much more frequently than the new trains, simply because of their age. At some point they will run out their useful life."

Murtaza Haider, director of the Institute of Housing and Mobility at Ryerson University, said the age of the cars is definitely a cause for concern.

"We should be ensuring that there is some service life left in these vehicles and we're not going to be playing havoc with the lives of those who would ride these vehicles," Haider said. "There's metal fatigue, and that metal fatigue could result in dangerous conditions. I would be paying a close watch on this for the next ten years to see how many accidents do happen in Lagos."

He also warned that while rail systems are glamorous as far as transit infrastructure goes, they are not always as effective at reducing congestion as other options. Nevertheless, new rail systems are frequently preferred because governments can take advantage of kickbacks from large contracts.

According to media reports, the cost estimates for the Lagos rail project have varied wildly from $1.2 billion to $30 billion. In 2010, a Nigerian government watchdog accused Fashola's government of widespread corruption.

"More often than not, politicians favour rail transit because it is more expensive," Haider said. "It's almost useless in some cases, and less productive in most cases, than a bus system. But you can't buy busses for $30 billion. You can inflate prices and make a lot of money buying a rail system."

Deux Project again ?

Unmasking Deux Projects Ltd, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, the masquerades behind Fashola’s headaches

It is no longer news that former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola is embattled at the moment, as the ‘Mr. Saint’ reputation he seemed to have built over the years is fast crumbling, no thanks to series of disclosures from the new Lagos State administration under Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, a former Accountant General of the state, allegedly retired prematurely by the former governor.

Fashola who was seen by many as an example of good leadership is presently enmeshed in series of corruption allegation.

Emerging facts reveal that the lawyer turned politician was engaged in primitive consumption and accumulation of wealth. And this, he allegedly did through Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Deux Projects Limited and the favored proxy of his estranged godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Authoritatively inside sources told DAILY POST that, over 70 percent of Lagos State government’s contracts, particularly in the construction sector, were awarded to Tunji Olowolafe, a trained medical doctor and onetime cab driver in London.

Tunji’s company, Deux, which fronted for Fashola, allegedly cornered the Lagos State Government’s contract market.

According to the source, the business romance between Olowolafe and Lagos State started during the two term tenure of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as Governor, when his company was awarded virtually all the contracts for the refurbishment of hospitals and several others in the state’s health sector at bloated and inflated costs.

http://dailypost.ng/2015/08/24/unmasking-deux-projects-ltd-dr-tunji-olowolafe-the-masquerades-behind-fasholas-headaches/

A source at the Lagos State government office told DAILY POST that, “The mere fact that BRF had good publicity does not mean he worked hard and properly as he ought to. He manipulated the media and hoodwinked the unsuspecting public to his advantage and went to sleep. Lagos State became a big bazaar where public funds were wantonly shared among cronies under him.

“Monies were kept in different individual accounts for BRF. Chief of whom is Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, a trained medical practitioner turned powerful political jobber”.

Guys,

Please stop getting excited over a false report. I repeat this report is false.

The Cardiac & Renal Centre is probably the best medical facility in Nigeria today.

It started up in phases, with the renal & dialysis unit starting first. Today, they are the largest functioning dialysis facility in the country.

The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is the best & only one of the few functioning ICUs in Nigeria today.

The Cath lab (for open heart surgery) is the last phase of the project. It is the only standard cath lab in West Africa (There is a mobile one in Ghana). It has not packed up, it has never been used. Due to the complexity of the equipment and specialist knowledge of the clinical personnel required, it was meant to be the last phase to pick up.

I know this because I provided financial advisory services to the Centre. I have dealt with Mr. Osewa, & he knows I am not a phantom.

As a matter of fact, Seun can nominate two people, & I can take them to the Centre at any time to verify that this report is trash.

This report is a lie.

God forbid, you or your loved one has a severe health situation. I can tell you that in Nigeria today, there is no better place to be than the Cardiac and Renal Centre.

It is not operated by Duex or the Government, by the way.

You did not ask for Videos to believe the lie. Yet you will gladly violate the rights of patients by unethically taking their videos. I know our educational system is in the gutter, but this is a new low.

You can nominate yourself to be one of the two people that Seun recommends, if you want.

One final word.

At the moment, due to the success of the dialysis unit, the capacity may soon be increased. It is already the largest functional dialysis facility in the country.

The management of the facility is not connected to Duex, Tinubu, Fashola or the Government, and it is probably the only government owned medical facility in Nigeria that generates revenue for the government at any level (local, state or federal).

If they want to get this sham of a journalist, they easily can, as most of the report is a flat out lie. I expect him to either be retracting the story with an apology, or getting fired like the other crook that manufactured an article about an interview with Itse Sagay.
