Politics here is very different from the one we have in Nigeria. Here in Germany I have never seen a poster, billboard, or picture of any political office holder from the Chancellor to the governors, ministers etc.Nothing yo show their face or so called projects they have carried out. I have never seen any convoy or heard a siren before. Its just as if politicians don't exist in this country.
Its in Nigeria that we make politicians mini gods and it is for that reason that they kill and do all manner of horrible things to retain their seats. Now that is why Rivers state APC members are beheaded and people come to type on NL and support it openely. We truly deserve the kind of leaders we get.

Before the zoo chanting people will come let me tell you that america started practicing democracy long before us. Having said that, until we start voting the right people and not voting based on religion and tribe we will continue being shortchanged by the politicians. But i know we will get there cause if an igbo man can seek elective post in lag and maybe win, it means there is hope for true democracy to be rooted in our country. #GODBLESS9JA
Always defending incompetence.. Why can't NASS update and add their contact details on NASS.. Is it going to take another 200 yrs to do that?

How manay senators has email?
The ones that have how many of them check it?
The ones that manage to check how many of them will responds?
If at all they want to respond how many will reason with you and shed light on your query and responds accordingly
How many of them even visit their constituency out side Christmas, burial and other ceremonies?

Our so called senators and legislators create special email and phone lines and distribute if at all they want, and this is what the public will get to avoid disturbing them. The only connect btw them and their constituency is election after that bye bye till another four years.
Their gate is locked up with army and police guarding him when ever he is at home.
His convoy is more that 15cars with Army and police escort while their is no police found around the full village.

The change we need is far beyond the APC change, we need a holistic change in our attitude, thinking, behaviour, reasoning, sense of. Perception etc

God help Nigeria

Our awesome senators have launched a glorious suggestion box for opinions like this na abi no be so?

This lack of communication is the reason the government officials are insulated from the public and a pig like Ngige will say that those who complain of hardship are PDP loyalists since he doesn't know what is meant by hardship or Nigerians.

Senators have staffers that responds to emails from their constituency. TheY always have auto prepared response for a very popular issue but will reply private messages at the same time if it is just a single issue. Their staff do all the writing however and they will only respond themselves in rare occasions

Depends on the question. The OP sent an email on a generic issue and got an auto prepared response

How can u say that when you did not even go through the messages...
Young man donot try a counter argument here, the truth is this... Do Nigerians really have any means at all to communicate with their elected representatives

See in this part of the world government is too far from the electorate. They just win elections and the next time you see them around is when they are campaigning again... Its just pathetic
You're not far from the truth...having such communications/feedback mechanism is commendable, no doubt . But arguing that a senator would personally or via third party respond / reply to all enquiry from all quarters is by and large unfounded.

I think the OP is overblowing an issue. We cannot suddenly emerge like the United States. We are not compelled to do so. We must develop our ways. From your report, what is important is that there is a channel to contact your rep, and the rep responded. Is this available in Nigeria? May be yes. let me expatiate

I finished my first Masters in 2004 in LASU. We then had problem with getting our results. In 2007, someone told my wife about the channel to approach the new VC(Prof. Hussain), which is a simple email. I composed an email, and sent it to the email address, complaining that 3years running I'm yet to get my MSC results. Fast-forward 2 weeks later, I received a phone call from the PA to the VC, who informed me that the VC commissioned him to investigate my case, and they found out that I was right. My result was subsequently forwarded to the Senate and the Senate passed it that day he called me and that I should come for it......

So one good turn deserved another, I sent another email thanking the VC and PA. I further informed them of an initiative I was priviledge to know which will benefit LASU - A specialized computer learning and development that a Nigeria Prof in the US (can't remember his name) partnered with UN for some select Nigerian Universities. As at then the Prof took it to UNN (his alma-mata) and OBJ's bell University. I recalled I had asked him why those two and why not others. He informed me of the means through which others could come in. All this information I gave to LASU. Note all these were email exchanges. I never met Prof. Hussain and his PA till date

When Fashola was governor of Lagos State, a Unilag lecturer sent him an email on suggestion of how to solve the traffic gridlock at TBS-NITEL area. That is what led today to the by-pass by Muson.

I know many Senators, House of Rep members and some other governors (Including the crude Fayose) have designated email address, through which you can communicate to them. Over 70% of our Senators have twitter account

Now the problem I see is that many people will get rebuffed or ignored when they neither make any tangible contribution or get unnecessarily abusive while communicating with them. When Japhet Omojuwa organised a tweet-meet with Ambode, some people almost made a waste of the limited time. Instead of bringing issues and fact-based challenges, some chose to abuse him, and later wondered why he did not respond to them.

For me, the solution is not in comparing with America and quickly start condemning us. We are evolving and we need to understand what fits our profile and orientation as people. America uses email channel, Nigeria uses town-hall meetings....it is the end that will justify the means

Bro, I feel you. I am short of words even, where do one start from, where do one end?

I was once a Lead in a Private organization in Nigeria, the graduates employed grumble about everything, they don't want to do any work at all but they ask about pay once the month is about to end. At last, the org didn't meet target, it was closed down and about 500 graduates were sent home. The few diligent ones suffered for the stupidity of those who want money but can not work. These graduates whose fathers do not have companies, who have been jobless for years finally got a job; yet they complain about everything, they are not disciplined at all, some would come late perpetually, some won't come at all yet insult me for marking them absent...at the end of every month, they barely meet target whilst expecting the CEO to pluck money from the sky to pay them.

Take a look at the endless numbers of useless, redundant ministries littering the country...ghost workers, workers who sign in by 10am and leave by 11am without lifting a finger to do any work, workers who don't know zilch about their job description, from the boss to the cleaners; no one knows what to do at work, but expect their pay alert every month. It's a birthright to be redundant in Nigeria now? ....to contribute nothing positive to the country but expect positive results. Nigeria youths all want GOVERNMENT JOBS so that they can remain BRAIN DEAD whilst earning a salary they never worked for...

And we want the country to work, we jump around and compare ourselves with a country like USA where people actually WORK to earn every dime.

Like you said, there's something fundamentally wrong with the black man...all of us.
