Hello VO. Hope you are annoying your holiday? I am a US citizen. I became a citizen through abduction by my uncle when I lost my dad. that means my biological mom gave me up for abduction. now I am married and just had my first baby. I want my biological mum to come assist me.
My questions are.
Can i still apply immigrant visa for her?
If no, can I send her an invitation stating she is my biological mum and I need her to come see my baby?
Note - we've always being in touch and always come to Nigeria to see her.

Hello john2son5,

If your uncle lied about you being his child, you're going to have a hard time convincing the officer that this woman is your mother. If it is determined your citizenship was obtained illegally, it is possible it will be retroactively rescinded. I think you're referring to ADOPTION. If your mother could care for you and chose not to in order to obtain immigrant benefits, that is a manipulation of the adoption and immigration system. Your family's choice to be dishonest and not transparent about relationships will make it difficult for anything you say to be trusted.

Sir, hope you don't forget that there's a column in DS-160 which asked have you and where you have traveled to in the last 5 years. In that wise as regards about 7years that my boss has traveled out of the country, what should be giving as an answer to the "Traveling Column in DS-160.?" Thanks.

Read the question again. And again. And one more time. The question is "the last five years".

Dear VO,
Pls enlighten / advice me on this.

An agent once helped me fill form D160 to apply for Visit Visa to attend a conference some years back. but when he gave me the form i noticed he filled that i work with a coy and have experience related to the upcoming conference all which were not true. i told him i was expecting him to get a conference related to my field and work. To cut the story short, we cancelled the appointment after he told me since i ve not gone for the interview no damage done yet.

Later in the year i applied on my own with all my genuine info, i was refused a visa on 214b ground without any reference to the earlier submitted D160 form. I am about to reapply, and someone told me that the form the agent submitted will always affect me despite cancelling the interview. If true, what can i do to rectify this problem.

Hello Elizabeth40,

You can try and be honest in the future, but we strongly discourage people from using visa agents. They are only seeking money and they do not have your interests at heart. More often than not, they damage your credibility and limit the possibility of you receiving a visa in the future.

Hello VO,

Please advice.

I have a B1/B2 visa which will expire in May and I am planning to apply for a renewal. I recently changed my name. Do I need to obtain a new passport in my new name before I can apply for the visa renewal? If no, do I need to come with the change of name documents during interview or submit them along with my passport if I qualify for Dropbox? (My current passport is still valid for 3 years).

Also, can I apply for the visa renewal before it expires?

Dear VO. Am not sure you understand my msg. There was nothing dubious about my uncle abducting me. I lost my dad and my uncle new my mum will not be able to provide for me, so my uncle and his wife aducted me and my biological mum gave me up for abduction. The whole process was legal. Well, I was only 12year old when all this happened, but to my best of knowledge my uncle didn't lie then. He wanted to make sure I was properly provided for. My question is can I file immigrant VISA for my biological mum or I will just have to use a normal visiting visa (Non Immigrant Visa)?

But u missed out my real question. Will a D160 form with wrong information submitted but the interview cancelled , be used against future interview?

I want to be clear about this before applying at all.
Thanks for your sacrifice on this forum.

Dear VO,

I filled the DS - 160 form online some days ago. I did not see the area in travels that says "travels in the last 5 years".

I have received a conformation email with the alphanumeric code. Just in case there is something wrong , kindly advise on what can be done to correct such.

P.s..I also applied for my Mum and still did not see that option.

Thanks in advance.

Did your uncle win the Diversity Visa or was he already an American citizen and petitioned for you?

You are describing your immigrant intent. Please don't apply for a non-immigrant visa. You will be refused. This is the non-immigrant visa thread.

Dear VO,

Please help. What are the chances of getting US F1 visa for MBA without GMAT and Toefl? i got admitted to 3 universities in US. I was admitted based on my academic and professional experience. I studied Electrical Engineering at Undergraduate level in a Nigerian University and MSc in Engineering course too in United Kingdom. I have an expired UK student visa and expired post study work visa on my passport. I travelled to nigeria on 3 occasions when i was on UK post study work visa before i finally came back to start work in Nigeria. I have about 5 Years plus of work experience and i am at mid level of my career. After 3 yrs of work experience, i switched to another company with more job responsibility and i have become a shareholder in the company where i work now. My father is the one sponsoring my education in US. I am single and 31 years old. How do i convince the VO that i am a genuine non-immigrant whose intention of going to US is for study only. Also would not writing GMAT be an issue for me?

Dear VO,

My mother filed an immigrant petition for me which was approved in 2011, however due to the time lapse and my non-interest in continuing the process as i have commenced a career and will start a family soon here in Nigeria, I have written a request to the NVC for the case to be withdrawn.

I have been to France, Spain, Italy and Germany, now, my fiance and I, intend to go to the USA (Hawaii) for our honeymoon in August (we will get married in a May), he has a valid B1/B2 visa, but I don't. My application for a tourist visa in 2014 was declined, I intend to apply again as soon as i have a confirmation that the immigrant petition has been withdrawn. I have no intention of settling in the USA as i will proceed for my M.Sc. in the UK in September. Would i still seem a flight risk to the Interviewing officer?

Please read the thread before posting. We're not giving you odds.
