Saraki's Eyes Now On 2019 - Senator Misau! by tomakint: 1:13am On Apr 05, 2016
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isa Hamma Misau (APC, Bauchi Central), said yesterday that Senate President, Bukola Saraki, is looking beyond his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), and working towards 2019.
Reacting to a report entitled “Ndume, Adamu, Ekweremadu eye Saraki’s seat”, Misau said the CCT case was dead, and that Saraki was in firm control of the Senate, to the extent that he could not be edged out.

“Saraki’s camp is very powerful and even if he is going, he will be the one to determine who succeeds him. We, in his camp, are not thinking of Saraki going, we are thinking of 2019 when he will emerge for the second time and consolidate on the legislative works he is doing. Our thinking is beyond this tenure because of his performance.

“His case at the CCT is political because even those who are with serious cases are moving freely around the country. Saraki’s case is not embezzlement or misappropriation of funds. His is a case of under or over declaration of assets.

“As you know, it is an old case brought forward to pull him down. At what time did they realise that he committed this offence? He was at the Senate in 2011, without immunity, and they didn’t come up with it. Why now when he is the Senate president? But whatever it may be, it is a dead issue,” Misau said in a phone interview.

Saraki’s case at the CCT is coming up tomorrow. He is standing a 13-count charge of false assets declaration while he was governor of Kwara State.

Mr misau made a good point. Everyone knows Saraki case is politically motivated. According him , those with serious case;are waking freely in Nigeria. Time shall come when some people will try by all means to cover the truth, but fine it impossible to cover.

Is that as a Kwara LG Chairman or Prison Cell President?

Apart from the iPod yoots and some of his kinsmen, I can't imagine the sane Nigerian that would vote for a power drunk schemer and corrupt evader of justice.

His eyes better be on CCT. Nobody is stopping him from contesting for president but he has to clear his name first.

Everyone knows Saraki is standing trial today because he refused to be servile to the dictates of some party chiefs. I don't see how that seat can be taken from him without dire consequences to the APC. As for emerging again in 2019, that is too early to speculate on.

"Innocent Saraki" Vs Panamagate: Will Kanu Agabi Still Represent "A Criminal Saraki" Indicted By Panama Leaks? Nigeria's embattled flamboyant senate president, Mr. Bukola Saraki does not seem to have fate on his side. If there had been chances for Saraki to escape the arm of the law by convincing Nigerians of his innocence on the pages of the newspaper or the law court, all seem to have been shattered now, as the Panama Leak goes viral and speedily too into the hands of the very law that is trying Mr. Saraki. Maybe, Saraki was innocent yesterday, but after the massive evidences provided by the Panamagate, Nigerians are asking if Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, will still defend a Saraki presented as a criminal by the Panama leaks with all sense of integrity and honour. The leak by Panama Papers, among other startling revelations, provides details of the hidden financial dealings of 128 more politicians and public officials, aside numerous prime ministers, presidents and heads of states around the world, including Nigerians, among whom is Mr. Saraki and his family. The cache of 11.5 million records shows how a global industry of law firms and big banks sells financial secrecy to politicians, fraudsters and drug traffickers as well as billionaires, celebrities and sports stars. The Panama leaks is a product of the findings of a yearlong investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and more than 100 other news organizations. Mr. Saraki has not actually told Nigerians and the law in clear terms that he is not guilty as charged. He is rather asking the law not to try him at all on the reason that a politically motivated interest is instigating the law to try him. But the intriguing side of the Saraki case is the fact that over 80 Senior lawyers and SANs are leading other junior lawyers to stand against the state and ask the law not to try Mr. Saraki on the grounds that there are other criminals who have not been tried, or who escaped the law with the help of another set of Senior Advocates. What a country! It seems to show that it is only in Nigerian that a Senior Advocate of the country, an equivalent of the Queens Seal in England, can represent a criminal in court against the state even when there are clear evidence of corruption, fraud and criminality against the accused. But latest developments in the country's judicial and legal proceedings has further revealed how far the Senior lawyers of the country, especially Senior Advocates, can go in pursuit of naked dirty cash at the detriment of integrity, honour, professional ethics and national interest. In United Kingdom for example a Queen's Counsel carries along with it some limitations, among which is that you cannot appear against the crown or the state. There are also many more drafts a silk cannot get involved in and of cause a silk cannot appear alone in court without a junior lawyer among other numerous condition that tend to make the position of a Silk a professional risk. In Nigeria the reverse appears to be the case, in all the high profile cases of corruption or fraud, we see Senior Advocates standing against the Attorney General and in some cases ganging up to intimidate some judges. One is forced to ask if there are not supposed to be professional limits or moral guides in the practice of law in Nigeria at this level. Two striking cases come to mind; the case of Chief Kanu Agabi opting to defend Mr. Saraki, Nigeria's embattled senate President, facing criminal charges of corruption, fraud and false assets declaration in the CCT. Next of the two is the case of Mr. Ricky Tarfa, a Senior Advocate facing charges of corruption, fraud, graft and obstruction of justice or hiding criminals against the state. These two cases are just examples and a tip of the iceberg of what is going on in Nigeria's judicial and legal circles, where justice is either bought on behalf of the criminal rich elites and the powerful, or stunted by the very men who ought to help the state get these criminals behind bars through needless technicalities of objections and motions. In the case of Tarfa, despite massive evidences indicting him before the laws of the land, over 80 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, same people elevated to protect the state from criminals, appeared in defence of Mr. Tarfa. Maybe, due to the deafening outcry and condemnation from millions of Nigerians majority of these SANs could not appear with Tarfa again. But the case of Tarfa and his bunch of 80 Senior Advocates could be pardonable than the absurdity of Chief Kanu Agabi's audacious and shameless defence of Mr. Saraki, even with all the massive evidences against the accused, indicted for defrauding the state. For these Senior advocates, their counterparts in England and elsewhere are barred from engaging in such a dishonorable service to criminals against the state, at least on grounds of professional ethics and for the sake of integrity and honour, which the SAN title ought to confer on those who hold it. When it was speculated that Chief Kanu Agabi, one of Nigeria’s most respected legal authorities, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and two-time Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, had been hired to represent the embattled senate President, Abubakar Olubukola Saraki, against the federation as represented by the attorney general, the anti-corruption agencies and the prosecutor general of the federation, millions of right thinking Nigerians wondered in utter shock. They wondered why someone of Agabi's reputation in the legal profession would boldly set all moral boundaries aside to join the band of unscrupulous SANs who brazenly play the devils advocates against the state in clear cases of corruption and high level criminality. Chief Agabi's case, among others, is a special one because Chief Kanu as a two time Attorney Genral of Nigeria, is one of the greatest beneficiaries of our national heritage. Chief Kanu, maybe, had ample excuse to defend Senator Saraki befoire now at the CCT on the principle of the accused who must be presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, as the trial resumes amid the Panama leak scandal in which the senate ptresident and his wife featured prominently, Nigerians will be waiting to test Chief kanu Agabi's sense of integrity, honour and patriotism.
