Oh no, you need to contact your international student office informing them of the previous SEVIS number you were given and how you've paid your SEVIS fee with it. They will issue you another I-20 with the old SEVIS ID. This may take another 1 month to process and have them mail it to you. Or else, you would have to pay another $200 SEVIS fee. Did your school make you pay for courier services to mail your current I-20 to you? If yes, they may make you pay for the corrected one with the old SEVIS ID to be sent to you. If so, you might as well just go ahead and pay another $200 using the new SEVIS ID.

Update: or you can try contacting DHS to transfer your $200 payment from the old sevis I'd to the new one.

Someone just posted recently about paying at Seme border Benin republic and paid N70g in total, including bank processing fees. The cheaper option would be to have someone in the US pay for you on your behalf.

To the best of my knowledge, it depends on the kind of assistantship you are offered. If you are lucky to secure a full assistantship (in forms of TA or RA), you will have to work for 20 hours per week and your tuition will be fully covered. On the other hand, if you are offered a half assistantship, you will work for 10 hours per week and half of your tuition will be covered. Either way, you will still have to pay some miscellaneous bills. I would advise you to always be prepared for the worst case scenario. About the terms, it's almost the same as getting it before coming to school.

How should I start self? Well, GA is not automatic . I am a CCNP and I really doubt they used that as a yardstick (in my case). However, I know three things can get you assistantship; 1) Your profile (GRE, GPA, SOP, etc.) 2) Your experience (if you have some industrial experience or you have published a paper) and 3) Availability of funding.
Of all, the third seems to be the most difficult to predict. My school used to have a lot of funding for MS in CS (but not anymore). However, I am almost certain you will get full funding if you come for MS in maths, physics or chemistry (My friends with way lower profile than myself got full funding before coming over). So if I told you that there is no funding in my school, you will automatically assume there is no funding in all departments. Funding is in cycle!

Solution:

1) The best thing you can do is to do a lot of background research about some schools. Sincerely with your profile, you should choose some good low ranked schools to boost your chances.

2) Send an email to all the professors in the dept (I can send a good template that I have been using to you - you may need to review some of their research papers tho).

3) Pray to God!

Yea that's true. I almost forgot that option of transferring sevis fee payment from one sevis id to another. Yea he can definitely try that given that his payment is still valid within 1 year from payment.

I don't think it is right to put people down because they would consider coming back to Nigeria after their studies. It's just unfair. What even makes you feel you will NEVER come back to Nigeria? You don't know the future. What if you are struggling to get a good job in America and suddenly a good opportunity turns up for you in Nigeria? I have so many friends and colleagues who came back from America to work for multinational coys in Nigeria and doing very well. Being smart does not guarantee a good job anywhere including Nigeria and America. There are a million and one smart pharmacists, you know...

I am fine, Team16. How are you? So I was unable to secure a Supv in Alberta even though I passed the application review. None was willing to take on my course, though they claim it's one of their research areas - said they were rather focusing on oil sands and I was not willing to change to that.

So focusing on UK and US for next fall. Wish you all the best!

It is called Graduate Assiatantship, Full/Half. If full you'll get tuition waiver and a stipend working 20hrs/week. If it's half, it's halft tuition remittance, paid 10hrs working weekly. The issue of Assiatantship is overfloghed already.

This assistantship (non-teaching) will be for the Spring 2016 semester (January 19, 2016 – May 5, 2016). You will receive graduate tuition remission (excluding fees) and salaries of $10,000.00 (BEFORE taxes - $5,000.00 per appointed semester) less paid holidays for the academic year should your appointment span both semesters.

In order to remain a graduate assistant, you must maintain full-time enrollment (at least 9 hours), remain in good-standing (GPA of 3.0 minimum) during the semesters of the appointment and maintain a satisfactory job performance. If, for any reason, your appointment is not continued for the Spring semester you will be notified by December 1st. Other employment at UTPB will NOT be available to you and outside full-time employment is discouraged.

For additional information about the duties of the graduate assistantship, please contact Dr. Rosenblatt at 432-552-2128 or rosenblatt_k@utpb.edu. As a reminder you must turn in a signed monthly timesheet to the graduate studies office that is due by the end of each month or you will not receive your pay.

Just realize its their own opinion, they are entitled to it, not the first time such stuff is happening on here and wont be the last, so just ignore. The thing is one doesn't have to be in the US first before they make up their mind on what they want to achieve i.e staying back/not inclusive. ''Its not about going there first''. I always run the race of life with this saying from Bishop Oyedepo, ''You dont plan during marriage, you plan before marriage'', ''20 children dont play for 20 years''. All of us on this thread, US-bound might not end up staying legally in the US after studies, some will go back to Nigeria. From observations and experiences (NYSC inclusive), I found out most folks who studied abroad and came back to Nigeria are employed and doing well. example, the family I stayed with during Nysc, the man (Civil Engineer) collects N10m (after Tax) monthly from shell after he did his msc. The key is networking & God's favour. I feel you bro!. I dot know you but the way you take your time to answer folks on here & ask questions (both relevant & irrelevant..lol) makes the thread litt! I remember when you first mentioned you were going to Mississippi and I was like naah that place aint cool, then that guy was like Me wey neva go Mississippi abi enter America..Lol etc. But no need calling out anyone on here or proving status, the best we can do collectively as Nigerians is to support each other and heated exchanges are bound to happen!. The thing is, most schools have GA/RA/TA manual. You can get a soft copy online by using the search box of your schools website.

Who he epp? after 10M lol.. So the simple fact that was stated actually led to all this back and forth? The truth there is; travel first and decide rather than conclude. If you think having a masters degree is automatic employment, then you are getting it wrongly. I can personally invite 4 friends who came back after lavishing River State (RSSDA) scholarship to UK and Malaysia. They came back after studies thinking foreign masters degree equals automatic employment. I accommodated one while working in Rivers state and I knew how hard it was for him to get a job. The truth of the matter is, it is not easy to leave from square 3 in Nigeria come to US starting from square 1 and after studies get some OPT employment with benefits and would decide to go back to Nigeria and start from square 1. Personally, I would return to Nigeria, if only there is job that would pay me commensurate or more than I earn here.
