not luminous, but very good made in india battery, according to my supplier. i bought it 70k(transport inclusive). i just purchased a 200amps mono solar panel and charge controller, i intend to buy the 2nd another solar panel and another 200amps battery soon. with that i will be okay for awhile.
Made in Indian Battery?when will 9jeria make there own Battery?

it seems your panels are not charging d battery effectively.

do u mean 4 pieces of 130watt?

pls give a better explanation on how ur panels r connected.

positioning of ur panel is also important, is it affected by shading? are u facing south or west?, r ur panels tilted and hope they r not covered wit dust?

hv u tried charging wit Nepa? hv u used a meter to measure individual battery voltage?

which part of the country r u located? and ur controller is pwm which might not give u more than 60% of your solar array output; mppt is much preferable.

Pls try give more info so that others can contribute aswell.

Beautiful analysis. Oya zanyzara come answer all these questions.

Hello house,

Thanks for the good work.I had my solar setup before stumbling on this thread, please will need your expertise. The first day the setup was brought in,it powered my two 30watts blue gate fans as well as 10 (18watts )power saving bulbs though not all switched on at once for 12 hrs before switching it off. After that first day,the inverter alarm went off after 5 hrs and the third day after 5hrs.The solar controller always display 24.9v yet will not power my bulbs and TV (1.01amps)for more than 5hrs. Please what could I have been doing wrong. I am a not versed in electrical terms and hope u will understand better with pictures of my set up.

Thanks.
Your batteries are not been charged well. Apart from the solar, do you have nepa or gen to charge the batteries?

Thanks for your attention.

The Solar panel came in a pack of 2 labeled 130 watts (so two packs=4 pieces).

It was assembled last week Thurs and Unfortunately I don't have light for the past one week so have not charged with Nepa. I only tried charging with Gen once for 2hrs but charge controller still displayed 25.5 volts.

I honestly don't know if my panels are facing west or south.

I am based along Lagos-ibadan Express way after Berger.

I also discovered my solar panel charges my battery at 1.4 A so armed with your analysis I have confidently called the installer to come check panel positions again. I was scared the fault was mine initially.

Thanks so much for your contributions and will probably get a MMPT charge controller now.

Thanks everybody once again!

N.b: attached is a picture of my Solar Panel right now. Is this the right position please?

From your pix, your panels are facing slightly off east (ur DSTV position) and this is extremely wrong. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
Check where the sun rises early in the morning and ensure your panels are tilted towards the opposite direction. With that you will be able to capture sun power till around 4pm - 5pm

Because your panels are only working between 7am - 11am. Its better you face south or tilt towards west, you will have better yeild.

Don't get discouraged bro, you can still manage the PWM till u get an MPPT.

Cheers

Good day Oga Ceejay and everyone on this thread, especially the solar gurus. Is it adviceable to use a solar hybrid inverter (solar inverter with inbuilt 20A/30A charge controller) for the solar setup?

1.check the diodes at the back of the panel if they are very hot.you can remove them or replace them.2. check if the connection is in series connection.

Yes u can get a 20watts 15inch monitor ,most 15inch monitors come with a power adapter, its from the power adapter that u can calculate the watts, my 15inch came with a power adapter of 60watts, I had to buy another 12v adapter , I needed the lcd wattage to be low, remember, the lower the watts of ur appliance, the longer ur battery can carry ..,
I bought a 12v--- 2.0A power cable for my 15inch .
12v multiply by 2.0A = 24watts.
NOTE: my 32inch lcd is 160watts, so its always on when there is light, but wen nepa carry light, I switch it off completely, I had to get a very small extension box with a switch on it, so as to make sure its turned off completely, because if its still on standby mode, it will still draw little current.
Below is the photo of the power adapter I bought for my 15inch, 15inch lcd monitor with AV input is available at computer village as from 5k, if u are buying one, make sure it has an AV input, where u plug in ur video in and audio in cable, if u no smart those boys go carry ordinary PC monitor give u,
How long will a 160Watts 32inch lcd TV last on my 12v 40ah battery ?
12v multiply by 40ah battery divide by 160watts =3hrs
12v multiply by 40ah battery divided by 24watts = 20hrs

Pls Is there any way of using an ordinary monitor as tv i.e one without an AV input

No I did not , I only short circuited it and chose the one that sparked very well, but he gave me 1 week guarantee, don't have light now but its on my charger and when its fully charged, I will load on that battery on my appliance and see how long it will last, I will still add distilled water to it when I have fully charged it, distilled water will increase its performance

Pls broe..kindly explain how you short circuited the battery and sparked it to know the best to buy

Can't be enough for 400ah, would take about 2 days to charge one 200ah battery fully from low state.

Got it at N Olalekan Batteries, Ifeleye market, Oke Padre Ibadan

Your charge controller should have an output equal to at least 10% of your battery(ies) AH. That's is, 20A CC for 200ah battery set up, 30A CC for 300ah and so on

Sign of DIY. I didn't understand how to attach using the holes under the panel, so I had to attach wood to the holes then wood to the roof. Adapt and survive.
Please enlighten me about the proper way.

Thanks for this. I was actually trying to find out if a hybrid solar charge controller unit can replace the 2 separate inverter and charge controller units, because it's cheaper and takes less space.

codemaster2much:
Hi Guys, pls for those using inverter is there any significant impact on your Nepa Bill. I mean before and after.

codemaster2much, the answer is yes it does impact on your nepa bills because there's an appreciable pull when the inverter or ur external charger draws electricity to charge ur batteries; depending on the state of charge of the batteries the pull could either be high or low. If the batteries are deeply discharged then the pull is highest than when it's slightly discharged.

But the truth is that pple with prepaid meters would feel it more as those using analogue meters will still get estimated bills and so it's all good for them.

To understand what am saying use ur generator as a reference point, do u notice the pull when u charge ur batteries using either ur inverter, external charger or both; it's not a funny experience oh, my generator now burns 10ltrs of fuel in 6-7hrs, but the good thing is that the power takes me through for 24hrs with my fridge always on. So yes oh, there will be a SIGNIFICANT increase in ur electricity bills.

But look at it this way, it's almost the same amount u would spend if the power is always on, so what u're doing is putting the power into the batteries and using it when there's no power. As simple as that, hope i've answered ur question

Good morning

Just read through the entire thread, long read
Great work!

I do have a few request, I was planning on going Solar until
I realized yesterday that my batteries have packed up
(bought them used and have used them for almost three years)
So I need to replace them first, can anyone give me the contact of
a seller of good grade used batteries. 150Ah/180Ah preferably
and the cost.

Not sure if the likes of Ceejay80's Oga Chidi have in stock

2. I would also like a contact of a seller of NOT-TOO-EXPENSIVE
PV panels - 130W - 180W, 12V, mono crystal.

2b. Plus can one mix mono and poly together? That is eg 2 130W mono + 2 150W poly?

3. What is the average cost and brand of a good / recommendable Solar charger,
PWM, yes I know MPPT are the best but unless I can get one for less than
30K I wouldnt bother for now

Thanks, appreciate

Get a small fridge and don't be in a hurry to buy one, make sure u go through its specifications , either through google or its users manual, u do not need a small ups for ur setup, u wull need to buy a bigger inverter (1500w-2000w)
