I remember watching the movie Purple Rain back in the 80s and how he portrayed the troubled artiste in the movie. I stil play purple rain and when doves cry whenever I'm alone. He was a true artiste. Rest in peace Rogers Nelson AKA Prince. Your beautiful music lives one

The hugely popular and acclaimed musician Prince has died at his home in Minnesota at the age of 57, his publicist has said.

Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate earlier on Thursday, US media reported. An investigation is underway.
Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times.
He sold more than 100 million records during his career.
A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.
In 2004, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame.
Last week he was rushed to hospital hours after performing on stage, but was soon released.

Lots of african americans have that complexion. However, if you want further explanation I can tell you the rumour that was making the rounds in Nigeria in the 1980s (it was first told to me by my sister in 1986).

The nigerian version goes like this. Princes father is actually an arab prince and that's why he has that light complexion. It also explains why his name is Prince.

I share your sentiments, but it wasn't only an aids song. It was an all round social consciousness song. It's one of my favourite Prince songs because of the messages in it and the hip hop flavour.

1) HIV/AIDS

RIP Prince. One of the best musicians that ever lived. Up there with James Brown, Michael Jackson, Barry White and Teddy Pendagrast. Wao, what a great shock. He just had a show in Moline, Illinois few days ago. Once again, adieu to one of the greatest musicians of all time.
