FOREWORD
The book ‘Mbaise and the Dream of
Governorship’ is yet another contribution to series
of writings about the Socio-Political, Cultural and
Religious life of the people of Mbaise. It informs
the reader about the pre-colonial and post-
independence Mbaise Nation and Politics. This
unique nation called Mbaise is
homogenous and the people are identified by
their hard work, wisdom and iron determination.
The nation is rich in divers cultures among which
the “Iri Ji’ Festival is more pervasive . Mbaise,
like most ancient States in Africa observed
traditional religion before the advent of the white
missionaries. Today, Mbaise are Christians and a
greater majority are of the Catholic faith.
The writer rued the failure of the Mbaise man to
ascend to apex political leadership in the State
and the Nation at large irrespective of the fact
that the people are abundantly blessed with
human resources. This, he blamed, on one hand,
on individualistic dispositions of present day
Mbaise Politicians contrary to the unity of
purpose that characterized the activities of the
pioneer politicians of the great Mbaise Nation.
He raised on the other hand, the issue of
detractors of Mbaise who conspired to reduce
Mbaise to the strait-jacket of three local
governments instead of five to curtail her political
space. The fate of the Mbaise Nation in Imo
State is compared with that of the Igbo in Nigeria
as they are all victims of Orchestrated politics of
exclusion.
The book ‘Mbaise and the Dream of
Governorship’ strongly persuades Mbaise born
politicians not to fight shy anymore of the noble
cause of taking the reins of government in the
State by remaining perfunctory and diffused in
their individual approach but to take up the
gauntlet as a team with that doggedness for
which pristine Mbaise was known. The people
must be prepared to pay the supreme price if it
so demands for this prolonged dream to come
to reality.
Generally, the writer bemoans the lack of basic
infrastructure in the State and the Nation, high
rate of unemployment, poor service delivery,
policy somersault etc perpetrated and
perpetuated by those paddling the ship of the
State, a wrong, he strongly believes, the Mbaise
person, as Governor or president is capable of
putting alright in view of their exploits in
academics and industry. The Author therefore,
theorized on “quantum leadership” where all the
arms of government, other relevant bodies and
individuals are made to be active participants for
quantum result.
The book is a must read for all and sundry. The
author has done a very good job and must be
commended and encouraged.
