Can you please list the western nations that toll their roads. Also you should give the minimum wage in those countries in relation to the toll.

I'm begining to believe that most of you pro-pdps live in a village.
how do you think they manage to keep roads maintained and repaired?

simple. I live in south africa and i travel a lot inside south africa cus of work. All the roads tarred and pothole free. I was driving from johannesburg to polokwane once and i decided to use gps to find an alternative route cus the N1 freeway is tolled. It turns out that d alternative road (R101) its just about 25km more. Every tolled road in SA has an alternative route.

Which is the sane thing, options.

Its more expensive for motorists if the roads are not tolled and in bad conditions. A situation where you have good roads and they are tolled is far cheaper...my concern here is that the revenue be put to good use not the jegudujera idea.

The only thing this Man knows is to increase and tax and at the end of the day, nothing reasonable to show for it. He can put tolls on every street if he likes.

I wonder when this govt will stop policies that bring more hardship. The compulsory #50 bank charges for deposit is not enough now they want us to pay toll gate fee. Na wa oh.

Brilliant!!!

Even western nations that are far ahead of Nigeria after taxing income and petrol still collect toll, their roads won't improve otherwise!!

Oh you wailers, especially the ones that probably were still in primary school when we had toll gates , crying and blackmail won't solve it, this will happen!!!

BTW, some of us love the idea of toll gates and are thrilled... A place to chill when driving taya person or tire less or hot wee wee hol person. smiley

You would have run GEJ down with your fingers if this idea was initiated by his government. Imagine celebrating toll gates...! I shudder at your reasoning sometimes.
If the idea of tolling our roads was the best, why was it stopped years ago? In a country where citizens struggle to survive on their meagre incomes, somebody is celebrating excess taxation of the people. I seriously SMH for you.

There will be
alternative roads as well so that
people can choose.” - Raji Fashola

Can some one please remind me of the alternative road that fashola built for the tolled lekki/ajah road in Lagos when he was the governor.

This man just loves to add to the yoke of the poor. He always loves to think every Nigerian is as privileged as he is. From increment in electricity tariffs to payment of tolls on federal roads. The proposed 2nd Niger bridge by GEJ will be heavily tolled, and yeah, that was GEJ's idea. I'm sure when that bridge is eventually completed, Jonathanians would wilfully and dubiously erase from their memory, the fact that the tolling idea was from GEJ; I can already foresee how Fashola and Buhari would be fried when that bridge is eventually completed and the toll takes effect. The argument would go like this "GEJ gave us a bridge, Fashola and Buhari put toll gates on it."

This is exactly why I wasn't so excited about his appointment as minister of works and power. He's all about taxing and imposing levies. He can even tax a day old baby if he has the opportunity. God forbid we have someone like him preside over us in future. He'll give us ready-made reasons why we should pay for the air we breathe.

Of course, we all know he will. I am sure many Nigerians are patiently waiting for more shocking policies from him. And probably after he leaves office, some shocking details of his misdemeanors while in that office.

You guys ran GEJ down over the idea of tolling the bridge. Hope you haven't forgotten that. Igbos were insulted because a very crucial bridge GEJ promised them would be tolled.
Everybody knows that GEJ proposed tolling the bridge, so your last statement doesn't hold water.

The most likely reason the roads would be tolled is because they would be built on a PPP basis. Private investors bring majority of the funds, build the roads and then recoup their money over many years through tolls. A typical example is the 2nd Niger Bridge project which is being built on a PPP basis.

And yeah, not that I encourage tolling, but contrary to your assumptions, in western countries, tolling of roads is a norm. Most roads in London are tolled (on weekdays only) as a means to encourage people to use public transport and decongest the roads.

Nothing wrong with tax and tolls.

Just use the revenue as required.

Knowing fully well that the revenue will always be mismanaged,

Hence everything is wrong.

Welcome to the style of governance of Fashola.
The man is one that always believe that if something must be achieved, the fee for it must be increased(regardless of what you've been paying for it and its actual ability to solve the problem).
This is a man who on assumption of office as a minister swore that until the power consumption tarriff is increased, regular power supply can't be possible. Today(against the directive of the NA and the wish of the consumers) he has increased the tarriff and yet the power supply has gone from bad to all time worst while we still pay the increased tarriff.
His modus operandi is this: He will promise heaven and earth once the people will accept the fee and taxation. Most people will accept it as long as the problem(like bad road or power outage) is fixed. You pay the new fee,he puts up a make belief solution, everybody accepts it and in no distance time it fells back to how bad is used to be but by then we have gotten used to paying the new fee(which ofcourse is shared by him and his masters and cronnies).
The man always run an inhuman policy that seek to impoverish the people further more.
Nigerians,we give you Babatunde Raji Fashola
What is this one saying, when fashola increased nepa bill, what did he achieve ? Blackout..... Where the light?
U people will just be talking rubbish because u or a member of ur family is benefiting from the hardship caused by the govt

Think na! You can't drink a litre and pass out 10 liters. You want to tax the people like western countries, how about the privileges enjoyed by citizens of those western countries? Are you giving such to the people?

It takes no genius to know you are one of those that have never left their backwater communities, so probably never encountered any toll gates on our highways!

Seems I have to educate you small, OBJ scrapped it when he increased pump price, claiming "road tax" was embedded in the increment, so Ferma will take care of roads!!

Look around you, that is if you can remove your head from your nether regions long enough to see what's going on around you; where is the evidence of the road tax & the existence of Ferma?
