Dear Nairalanders,

We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too strong for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

What do you think? Please click 'like' if you like the idea; thanks.

from yesterday till today just 1098 like, thats the amount of people you would keep, while thousands that bet gains idea gains hope will likely dump their nairaland account, if not for nairaland what will you be, well i just which to give this little advert, those that pays to advertise at your wesbsite, some of them are scam, so banning it is worthless, imagine the set of people at merrybet seasonal thread, ban it and you will end up losing traffic, binary trading n betting wasn't banned world wide why you. Its not a decision to make, most of ur mod r nt masure, they even make me hate nairaland, but with my love 4 nairaland i will say let every thread of its has a disclaimer. To avoid those that cant play and lose or better still do your mind.

Thanks seun

Punters gain from this website without paying their own cut to the owner of this website.
Let me ask you something will you allow your website for the promotion of other services without getting paid?

I'm thinking from another angle#

Angled thinker grin. Is wanting to commercialize sport betting and forex threads seun's reasons for wanting to ban them threads? Or didn't you read what he wrote at the beginning of this thread? Even alabi confirmed that he stopped receiving paid adverts from bookies long time ago. So, what are you saying? No be only cut, grin

No problem. Oga Seun, post real business that are 100% fool proof and 100% moneyback guarantee, with minimum capital requirement 100 - 5000 as start up. Thats all.

How do you mean? Abeg what do punters gain
The thread is of mutual sharing of punts, If I give A bet of say 5 odds, and it clicks, and you played, if possible, you could appreciate with a token. In that, I think that's what you are talking about huh
Let's look at it vividly from another angle.
Two days ago, olutolA88 dropped a punt and people won it. Then he still went ahead to go on a Christmas spree by giving out from his winning.
Have you seen the 'angle' of my argument
It's not all about money uno?

Besides, Seun could have given people their opportunity to get a badge of trust in their profile. This way if someone helps you, you give him a point, and if otherwise, he drops some. With this we would even know good punters on nairaland, good engineers like Siena, etc. This will curb getting scammed too.

Back to this argument again after 10 years. I remember the battle before you allowed forex trade discussion on Nairaland. Even stock trading was a big issue then, forcing some members to another forum.

There is always a caveat on forex trading world over, and I think that's what it should be. It is not fraudulent in anyway. The problem is with the traders!

Sports betting is a personal decision. Its no ones problem.. B4 betting,u know there always a 50%chance in everygame, so why banning it... Im a punter, i win i loose, if person wan use him fada house bet, thats his own problem, but seun, u shouldnt cus it enables punters share strategies n games... For christ sake, thats why there's a sports section.. And it doesnt make front page, so why should betting be any one's wahala Done

Mr Seun, what exactly would you call legit in your own words? You mentioned Forex which is the biggest market in the world as fraudulent? May I take it that you are ignorant of it hence, made conclusions from a speculator's perspective? Sports betting is widely regulated the world over, for Nigeria, it's done by the Lagos States Lottery Board, are you by any means more legal than the Lagos state government. Can u kindly mention one legitimate business you know that does not entail a certain level of risk.Sports betting and Forex have come to stay whether you like it or not,you are already fortunate that your website has been a meeting point for many successful businesses. I will recommend that u do not take steps that will make u unpopular, remember there is always a space for competition. Leave Financial and Fixed odds alone!
