two wrongs cannot make a right. did the breaking of side mirrors eventually make the cars to disappear? Nigerian military showing themselves among civilians since 1960

If u have ever traveled this road, then u will realize how frustrating it can be. I've spent 2 hours on one spot just because of traffic. What caused the traffic? People moving on the wrong side of the road. Both sides if the road from ijebu ode to ore are bad, so I see no reason why drivers can't move on their side of the road. The thing is if one driver follows one way, then the rest behind him will also follow one way thereby leading to serious traffic jam ahead. It takes guts for this soldier to do what he did, it is not the right thing but this country needs iron hands. We can't obey simple traffic rules unless being enforced. The federal goverment need to deploy more enforcers on this road to punish people that take one way.

And u think breaking a thermal side mirror is the way to go ?

And encouraging barbaric and jungle justice from a kid in khaki?

Breaking side mirrors, a critical safety equipment is totally wrong and silly. That many people on this forum support this medieval act is a testimonial of how backward we are in Nigeria.

My brother...it pains me how we reason in this country. Na u and one other guy comment make sense so far. What they did was not good but it wasn't nice breaking their side mirror na.

The way Nigerians celebrate soldiers beast like actitudes make me think again. No wonder we have people who celebrate jungle justice. Nigeria is really a country

You dont correct an offense with another one. He should thank his stars this nonsense didnt happen in the fct,he would be having plenty questions to answer from his superiors cos thats outside his job description.
They should be thankful the soldier didn't have them beaten blue black with blood coming out like the one I witnessed on that road last time, the other drivers' heads were reset to normal, there was just smooth flow of traffic afterwards. I doubt u've ever plied that Benin ore whenever there's any serious traffic jam, those public buses aren't friendly at all, they go block the little passageway available. Sometimes, hard people require stubborn measures to curtail them since they understood no other thing than force.

Better!!

At least its better than beating violators.

Many Nigerians just act like animals. If you have been in a standstill on that express before you'll know what I'm talking about.

Its not only the govt that has issues, even the citizenry is filled with gross indiscipline angry angry angry

Only animals find pleasure in senseless and arrogant display superiority by senseless soldiers in Nigeria.

Is he a traffic warden or what.
Is breaking side mirrors the only corrective approach to adopt.

He is lucky not to have met guys with hot brains.
He would have returned to the barrack naked.
It would have been nice to see how animals celebrating him would have reacted

The soldier should be apprehended and made to face the law. He is following the ' body language' of disdain to rule of law. If someone violates the rule of law there is a process and recommended penalty, not breaking of people's mirrors.

Nigeria where anything goes. breaking their side mirror is wrong in a civilised society, you book them or arrest them. two wrong can not make a right. in a civilised society, he can be sued. They can argue that their cars were diverting to parked, parked, or diverting.

I'm really angry! This Soldier must be apprehended and made to face the LAW (I hope they see this as I was made to believe some Law enforcement agencies check Nairaland for updates).

If this act is not curtailed, he would cut people's hands in the name of theft.

A man who destroy vehicles because of traffic violation is capable of cutting a man's peni.s in the name of adultery. We do not run a Sharia law!

Issues like this are some of the reasons I love human rights activists. Lawlessness must be killed in this nation.

The same people hailing the soldiers are the same sets of people crucifying Saraki, while edifying other thieves like Tinubu. Sets of partisans, partial, hegemonistic and autocratic demons!!

That Soldier must pay; the traffic offenders as well must pay fines to the FG's TSA through the FRSC

No zoo-like nation like Nigeria can grow when majority lack common sense.

Shut up!!!

Y not post something like "violating d traffic law is not necessary?"

Two wrong doesn't constitute a right. Vandalising peoples vehicles is a criminal offence but violating traffic rules ain't. In sane societies, that soldier must end up in prison. This can only happen in a jungle.

Fruits of lawlessness both the drivers and the soldier. Cleared the road, caused the drivers the trouble of FRSC and VIO.

Nigerians are a totally useless bunch, why I don't pity the hell they are going through. What that soldier did can only happen in a totally failed society, breaking peoples side mirrors because they drove on the wrong side of the road? Were I live that soldier would have gotten a bullet to the head for even pulling a stunt like this.

I do not support breaking the mirrors. I would recommend the soldier pulls them all over and make them wait at least 30mins before they continue their journey. This will feel equally intimidating but more remorseful to the drivers than loosing their side mirrors.
What we have here is not an ideal situation. The drivers have protected their side mirrors all the while, why break them now? Its similar to breaking their tail lamps or head lights.
Here I see bad road causing the hold up. Every driver will feel the anxiety to get past the delay asap. However they should have waited the soldier who is trying to assist.
The soldier simply went on rampage. He lost the ability to manage the situation correctly.

so what do you suggest should be done in that situation to clear the traffic after more than 2 hours of no movement because of driving against traffic by "civilized " drivers.
