This can only happen in an animal kingdom I believe breaking their side mirrors is not a punishment for committing such a traffic offense, animals in uniform some people are even praising them

How can a sane human being damaging people's properties like that cuz of a traffic offense tell me if there is no other punishment for such offense in Nigeria traffic law, I still maintain what I said earlier it is only an animal behave like that, yes. those who knowingly violating the traffic rule are also animals, but the soldier boy is a super animal and those who are supporting his barbaric act

Destroying people's side view mirror is not necessary or does he want dem have accidents because of no side view mirror?

Its is just a reflection of how dangerous an illiterate Soldier can be!

His action will probably cause and accident and a few deaths before the end of the day.

I wish he could have canned them (like three strokes of Koboko each) but to break their side-mirrors is juts sheer senselessness.

No wonder Fela called these rank-and-file Soldiers "Zone-Bee"! undecided

Breaking side mirrors, a critical safety equipment is totally wrong and silly. That many people on this forum support this medieval act is a testimonial of how backward we are in Nigeria.

Nigerians are amazing people! They break the laws of their home country, but comport themselves when in a foreign land where the rule of law is upheld. Now why do you suppose it's that way?

Nigerians are law abiding in foreign countries due to "checks" in the system. In Nigeria roads are bad, no cameras on highways to capture defaulting vehicles, no trusted police you can bribe your way out, no database to track people, elected officials and individuals with police blow one way. The system is messed, so what do you expect? People are no saints.

And driving on the opposite Lane that results to traffic lock-jam is modern act abi...you do anyhow, you see anyhow...desperate times deserve desperate measures.... Breaking their windscreen would've been much better sef.
I wouldn't have replied you because you sounded like a tout, similar to hoodlums that engage in extra judicial killings - breaking of law is caused by system breakdown. That serves them right .It is not ideal for respectable men and women to violate the the traffic laws no matter the circumstances. How do we expect the change to be effective when we all refused to change our overall mannerisms
Re: Soldier At Lagos-Ore Breaks Side Mirror Those Violating Vehicles To Clear Holdup by swuftz: 6:40am On May 30, 2016
incredible. two wrongs doesn't make a right. what the soldier did was wrong. breaking people car side mirror is in itself is an act of lawlessness. tomorrow the same soldier will break the windscreen of every vehicle that blocked their path when they are on their way to somewhere regardless of whether they dive on the right side of the road or not. It is an act hooliganism and should be condemned. Nigeria soldiers are known to terrorise civilians at any given opportunity. is breaking of side mirror the only effective way to maintain law and order on the road?

Following wrong Lane is equally an offence but the onus is not on the soldier to pass judgement and implement, he had the option of denying them passage.

what a sensible post, imagine a soldier who is supposed to protect lives and properties of citizens is behaving like a thug and some people here are condoning his barbaric act, like you said people break these laws simply, cuz of the messed up system, didn't you see how bad the road in the video look like. I accept that those drivers did the wrong thing by not following the rule but why not punishing them according to the of the land instead of breaking their mirrors ? I bet if any of the government top officials was among those people the fool won't dare do what he did to those bloody civilians ( according to them ) to him /her

so what do you suggest should be done in that situation to clear the traffic after more than 2 hours of no movement because of driving against traffic by "civilized " drivers.

Did the breaking of mirror clear the traffic ?

Delaying them is enough or apply the laid down law for traffic offenders.

This is why our country will continue to fallow in this our present state..he has the right to punish the law breakers but doesn't have any right to vandalize their properties
what he did was wrong even though shame will not allow those people to take any legal action.

He does not have any right to punish any law beaker, cuz that is not his duty and he is not the court, soldier can only punish law breaker in a jungle like ours ( Nigeria and some other uncivilized countries )

hmm well I think at that point in time the soldier was the only 'law' around, I don't know how you think he could deny them passage. Regrettably his action is the only language some Nigerians understand.

Oh its on news already!

Anyway I was there as a witness, yes he joined forces with other civilians trying to talk the other drivers to reverse from the end so that the front can clear. But trust us, immediately a car shift back a little another one with just replace him before he could clear the back the front had covered again (this he did for almost 1hr). That was when he was provoke and picked a stick to destroy erring side mirrors, Immediately he started this, in less than 20Mins, all was clear and movement became free.

Anyway, no pain.. No gain

Wow!

This is incredible.

Respect to our Gallant men.

If you truly watched the video you would know there is nothing respectable nor galant about his actions. He clearly spared some expensive rides (a 2008 Benz C-Class and a Acura ZDX jeep). Why didn't he break the side mirrors of these 2 cars? Of course I support his action, the only language Nigerians respond to is that of brute force. But he did wrong by exempting some vehicles.
I have repeatedly maintained that we need to be allowed to bear arms for self defence in this country, like it's done is saner climes (USA). If you and I carry guns, we won't be faced with d menace of uniformed men oppressing and suppressing civilians/tax payers, boko Haram, Fulani herds men, Niger delta militants, armed robbery on our highways,......we won't even be faced with a Senate that purportedly bought 2016 toyota land cruiser jeeps for N37m instead of the market price of at most N19m.
Buhari has been president for a whole year, if any sane Nigerian still expects the miracle of 'change' from this government, then he or she is on a very long thing. The earlier we take our destinies in our hands as a people, the better for us, because no government would ever guarantee us protection.........its all about themselves.

He should have delayed those drivers on the wrong lane.

That's what an intelligent man would do.

The Soldier is s!lly and if I was on that lane, I won't take such. Would he have done same to a fellow Soldier, or a Superior in the Army, Navy, Air force?

Nigeria is a very useless country filled with useless people - those who applaud this barbaric act. Why must we Idiotic Africans always destroy, kill, beat, flog, bury, burn in the name of correction? why?
Can't these f00ls solve problems like civilized men?

Why can't the s!lly soldier pen down the respective plate numbers of all violators, and thereafter forward to the dedicated law enforcement agency? FRSC?

Nigerians are used to crude ways of solving problems, and I'm not surprised to see the archaic unintelligent-filled appraisals on the front page. Very s!lly people.

The money spent on replacing those mirrors could have been channeled into FRSC (FG) account in the name of Traffic Violation. Some side mirrors cost hundreds of thousands, yet the s!lly guy like every other S!lly Nigerian cannot manufacture jack!

Why destroy what your third generation can never build?
you just captured a bulk of what I wanted to say..

The fact that you are in uniform doesn't make you a law to yourself,........am sure he knows that. That's perhaps why he was careful not to step on some big toes, aka Acura MDX. Pls watch that video.

I had a similar experience while traveling on that road.
I was furious the armed guy didnt even think of our safety consideing we were travelling far. But then, it was better than taking us all to the station and delaying the journey.
