Why are ijesha, ibarapa, igbomina not on the list

That means Yoruba tribe shouldn't be on the list then, meaning Yoruba is going to split into different entities...if you are asking for ijesha, ibarapa, what of owo, ondo Ekiti etc

I hought bayelsa is Ijaw.

The 3 ethnic nationalities in Bayelsa State are the Izons( majority),the Urhobos and Isokos who are both minorities.

The Epie people speak a distinct dialect of the Izon language. So,I don't think they are a stand-out tribe on their own.Except it is a new development.

That's like saying the ijebus are not Yorubas. Or Okpe aren't Urhobo. Heck even Etche is Ibo

Even Isoko, a language that has its own ethnic nationality status is only a subgroup of Urhobo like Okpe. Most of these so called "tribes" here can be merged with their macro ethnic nationalities and the list will be reduced. If the Op intends to post tribes like this, s/he may as well post all of them including Agbon, Uvwie, Erowa, Agbarho, etc, in Delta State. The list would be endless!

You are an Ika man that want to cause trouble here ba? Itshekiris have said they are only related to Yorubas but NOT YORUBA. Please respect that!

Itsekiri is a Yoruboid ethnic group but they are not Yorubas! This is what most of us fail to differentiate. Itsekiri language has roots in Yoruba but over time, their geographical in-contiguity, other cultures they came across as well as their environment, changed their language and world view and made it distinct from Yoruba. In so doing, they earned the right of being a different language from Yoruba even though they cannot deny the Yoruboid nature of their language.

Great Job but
I stand to correct the following

Kadara is found in Kaduna and Niger
also, Kajuru is not a tribe but village/LGA in Kaduna that harbors the Kadara people.
Kafanchan is also not a tribe but a town.

I stand corrected by anyone that has a different opinion but mind you, I'm Kadara by and Kajuru is my LGAbefore my own village and we are all Adara from there.

Thanks anyway for the great research done.

Okpe is not a tribe, it is part of the Isoko tribe.

Fixed. You didn't put Edo but went as far as Delta. I hope you aren't mistaking Ilaje for Yoruba. Or Itsekiri or Ọza

Many of these so-called majority ethnic groups are always quick in grabbing minority groups as part of their ethnic nationality due to similarities without realising that languages may be similar but world view is ultimately what determines culture and an ethnic nationality. In the case of Itsekiri, their world view has no semblance whatsoever with Yoruba. Infact, they have more with Edo than any Yoruba group.

The only basis for adding Delta to his list may be the migrant group in Aniocha known as Olukumi. They are not aboriginals of Delta and when they came, they met a people there and integrated. They have also largely been acculturated into Anioshimili ethnicity and this makes them bilinguals. Beyond this, they speak a proto-Yoruboid language which many modern Yoruba speakers may have difficulty hearing. All these show that they cannot truly claim Delta as theirs but only as their place of abode. cheesy

You are utterly misinformed. Okpe is a kingdom in URHOBO. However, there is another Isoko kingdom known as Okpe-Isoko. Isoko people are quick to claim Okpe as theirs due to the linguistic similarities. However, we all know that Isoko, Uvwie, Okpe, Erowa, etc, are all "culturally" Urhobos and this is the basis for my claim.

Other than the above, Okpe is listed as an Urhobo dialect everywhere as gazetted by Nigeria!

Urhobo is Edoid no doubts but your postulation on coming together with Bini and Esan may not work for various reasons.

For one, these languages, apart from Urhobo and Isoko, are mutually unintelligible in EVERY WAY. We don't greet the same way, we dont share similar words, we dont have similar sentence structures, etc
These languages, apart from Urhobo and Isoko, are culturally divergent. Esan and Bini subscribe to the Oba of Benin while Urhobo and Isoko only recognise his power but do not subscribe to him in any way. Culturally, as well, we dont have the same beliefs, common folklore, common modes of dressing, common religions, etc.

So, like I said, it would be like lumping in the tower of babel populace and forcing them to be one if Urhobo, Esan and Bini are to become one. However, Urhobo and Isoko can do this due to their striking similarity in language and cultural homogeneity. In this regards, I always argue that Urhobo and Isoko, rather than divide and become minorities, with Isoko being a micro-minority, should harmonise themselves and gazette their harmony so that they can become a formidable force in the South-South!

Very correct. Urhobos occupy about 3 towns in Sagbama local government area of which the most prominent being Ofoni. Urhobos also occupy borderline communities in Edo State. This is apart from the migrant Urhobos in Okitipupa, Ore, Sagamu and Ajegunle.
