It is a common practice in Igbo land for an older woman to marry a younger woman either for the husband or to bear children for her. It is not only in mbaise but in majority of the igbo land. It is equal to adoption of babies.

Is it that Nigerian youths don't read again? How do they cope with their school notes if they are complaining about the length of this short article? undecided

Back to the topic. These 'marriages' are licences to live lives of sexual recklessness.

she is the Ada and the dad was adamant about it. How can i spend 1.6million naira on traditional marriage when i don't drive my own car. The arrogant nature of the dad cos her daughter is pretty made it look so petty.

Love is applying wisdom in this scarce times and using your head to take decision not your heart

Lie of the century

It's true especially where a wife can not conceive she agrees to 'marry' a woman for her to bare a child for the husband but the children are the barren women's children.T he woman is the wife of the woman and not a second wife to the man. The marriage gets over the issue of bastardising a child born out of wedlock.

No need to feel as if it is bad because we have all heard of surrogate mothers as well as sperm donors and family members being inseminated and carrying the birth of a child for another family member. Even test tube babies and freezing eggs.

In those circumstances because it usually an oyinbo we think if it as 'touching' and 'sweet'. We see them as being advanced for doing that but when it's a Nigerian it's just 'bush' to us.
Some of the other traditions I may not agree with but I can see the logic in this one just as I do other surrogate arrangements.

I don't really get your point. The woman married in is a surrogate for the woman that can not bear her own children. It is an arrangement that people around the family/ community would be aware of not some sworded shameful affair. It only happens in certain circumstances and it is often the woman that suggests it even.
