Exactly. It's of no use begging them to see the light. Like your cousin, just let them be and make that mistake and hopefully learn from it. The problem though is not everyone will get a second chance like your cousin, so people need to research properly before making this big decision. A caucasian colleague of mine got married to a caucasian American 2 years ago. She was looking forward to moving to the US but her husband talked her out of it. The husband left the states and works in one of the biggest oil and gas companies here as an Engineer and she is still enjoying her 1 year maternity leave. They can afford to have her stay at home for 1 year post birth. Her hubby said staying at home for 1 year in the states would make him work over time to provide for his family and he still wouldn't be able to keep up, so wifey would have to return to work after 3 months). If an "oyibo" can talk people out of migrating to his country, what more can I say?

Yes there are people who have succeeded in the states but not all "size fits all". Research. I have a friend who refused to consider option 1 but c hose 3. Did her Masters in public health and is now looking for a way to settle. This person is a nurse/midwife. I told her to consider option 1 since it's the closest to the US. She refused. See the high demand of nurses in option 1 and some silly woman refused to consider. Less population (35 million people) compared to over 300 million US. Tell me how everyone thinks they will make it there?

I live in option 2 and have lived here for yearssss. I have always said that if for some reason I am fed up of option 2 and need to migrate to another country in the future, IT IS DEFINITELY OPTION 1.

You're right I've seen many who didn't get a 2nd chance and they're in naija suffering. I always saw Australia as a warmer Canada. Didn't know you guys get 1 year mat leave as well. I'm sure you also get baby bonus cheque and subsidized daycare. This is foreign to our neighbours down south. It's also madness your friend who's a RN won't come up north. You're looking at 84k starting. With OT she's taking in over 100k easily. They'd give her pr on the spot. And since we have universal health care here, her job would be secured. She'd rather stress herself out for papers there?

I've met many people in her situation who finally decided to make the move up north due to the fear of being deported back home. After settling and being successful most can't believe how ignorant they were and wouldn't even move back there. Your friend needs help. No offence.

Well said. America does a good job selling themselves. In reality it's more of a 2 tier system (rich/poor) with the middle class slipping away. I had a cousin who wanted to do a master's abroad. I told him to choose option 1 Canada where I stay. He insisted he'll go and chase the America dream. After his master's he spent years trying to get status and finally came to Canada as a skilled workers. Got his pr before landing and has got a job with a major bank and his own place in a few months. My point is DO YOUR RESEARCH.

@maternal pls i am really interested in moving to canada especially as a skilled worker. pls how do i go abt it? plsss

Work on getting a visa first after which you can now worry about the next steps, not impossible but challenging.

Not at all. Most of the pictures posted so far are of my travels through the state of Wisconsin. But -where I have been staying is in the suburbs-it is quite. Very different from the noise in Ikeja!
Black people-there are a lot especially in the cities-although much less than places on the East Coast. Good thriving Nigerian and African community at the places I have visited.

1st & 2nd pic: That neighbourhood is in a ghetto in near city. I always thought that ghetto was a dirty nasty place like SOME places in Ajegunle or Oshodi-but its seems ghetto is mainly composed of low income and government subsidized housing where most poorblacks live. There is usually lots of crime-but my investigation is that most of this crime is between people who know each other (gang members). But these ghettos have 24 hours light, running water, and good houses.
Some of the houses would cost up to $1000 or more as rent or mortage-but many of those in the ghettos just pay a fraction and the government pays the rest. My brothers and sisters-there is order in this land!
This ghetto to me is better than my oga's neigbourhood in Ikoyi!
3rd & 4th: Morning breakfast in Mcdonalds . Showing off Nairaland.

Sir I'm searching for the pictures..how do I find it?
