I can bet on it that only very few people read that book "The Joys of Motherhood"
u r wrong lol

Many people read it.

Just that I hate the book.

Was expecting it to be a trag-comedy like most African book but no it isnt.

Whenever I remember it, anger nd pain swell up in my heart but thank God its just a novel tho.

The virtuous woman isn't about a lady looking for child. This used to be my favourite while growing up, I know the story in and out. It's about Nana, the pretty girl that had polio earlier in life so was deformed. She lost her parents and was raised by her grandfather. She was the only girl in her village to have gotten admission into the famous queens college, till she was joined by two other girls from her village. She later fell in love with Abu, a guy they met on their way to school

When I read it the cover was different. Ekwueme died from the injuries he sustained in a fight with Madume. Madume, the greedy lecher began eyeing Ihuoma after her husband died. I think Madume later hung himself on a tree after he went blind. The spirit husband came in the form of a snake and spat into his eyes, blinding him. He sunk into depression afterwards, and then committed suicide.

Truly an unforgettable classic... smiley

found the novel in my old uncle's stash.. twas a wonderful story.. i never got tired reading it over & over again.

Emenike is different from Ekueme. Ekwueme was Ihuoma's husband while Emenike was supposed to marry her. Agwoturumbe boasted he could appease the Sea King but he was outsmarted at the end
Emenike was actually ihuoma's husband who died of 'lockchest'

I have read most of the books listed. I used to borrow from my friends in Literature class then. Kai Literature sweet die. I must really commend writers like Cyprain Ekwensi, who writes about people and things that are outside their region. He did a great work writing Mallam ilia and an African night entertainment. Most writers would often stick to their own region. Its not bad though
Then it was still one nigeria any nigeria was free to live any where he choose a case in view was jos, populated by xtians and minority tribes but now things fall apart

Has anyone read the shining ones? It's a first-person narrative story of a group of friends from the same primary school. They found themselves in the same secondary school. Friday Stoneface, Mr Alan Black and the rest.
