I am pro gay and not homophobic. I'm very open minded and understand that some people's preferences by nature is for same sex BUT airing a children's cartoon based on married gay couple is a NO NO. No rational reason can explain the need for this. Children are impressionable and very fickle minded. This can mess up there sexual orientation as they may try to experiment. This is very wrong.

Its not like its anything new.
And you all have to understand that Nickelodeon does not produce cartoons specifically for homophobic countries as primary audience. The TV companies who buy the rights to air the programs of these channels are not obliged air them in these countries. You honestly cannot dictate what Nickelodeon shows or doesn't show. You can only ask for the channel to be censored in your country. In the home country, actively refusing to show a cartoon with a gay-coupled theme is prohibited by law. A lot of children in this country do not see anything strange about a gay couple. They may see it as not mainstream, but many kids have at least one or more classmates in school that come from homes with same gender parents. Even though gay marriages may not be legal in many countries, a large number of people are living in committed same gender common law unions with kids in the homes. They do not have to be married to be considered a gay couple or a gay-partnered family. These people are active in the community, on Parent-Teacher Boards, even on school fundraising organizations.
The disconnect here is not with Nickelodeon airing a same-sex biracial family unit on a cartoon network. The disconnect is that the NBC allows DSTV to air that particular program on Nigerian airwaves, which directly contravenes the Same-sex marriage prohibition act. That's what this discussion should be about.

Its against the rules of Nigeria. DSTV has no obligation to air such channel that has a gay program here. They should block Nickleddon on the list of channels viewed in Nigeria.

RELIGION is Basically CULTURE #christianity is alien to africa, so is homosexuality... they are both imported religion/culture and were/are being fought against cos they'd affect how we live our lives.

Homosexuality is a part of culture & isn't just same-sex, it's marriage,kids etc.

You forget christianity also banned DIVORCE, ALCOHOL, ABORTION, VOYEURISM FORNICATION/ADULTERY, CHILD OUTSIDE WEDLOCK, MASTURBATION, PROSTITUTION, LENDING WITH INTEREST! If you have sat down long enough watching Nickelodeon, you'll realise there are lots of shows bad for kids. Unfortunately, many parents don't know this. Its when kids starting uttering some statements you begin to wonder where they learnt it from.

I fully support and expect the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to take action on this. It is not only about banning local artists with vulgar lyrics from the air wave. A law has been passed banning this thing in Nigeria, how dare DSTV come and broadcast this in our land in absolute contravention of our laws. NBC should instruct DSTV not to broadcast the thrash here in Nigeria. How they do it is their business. It's not just about parents blocking the station. Nigeria passed a law and all government agencies must protect the law. This is almost like an assault on our sovereignty. DSTV, be warned. Otherwise, prepare for your own MTN fine. A word is enough for the wise. We kuku need the money.

I'm not saying gays should not have the freedom to have their own programs or whatever may be but at least let the kids grow into matured adults when they have the capacity to determine their sexual orientation.

If the govt of where Nickelodeon was produced or DSTV cannot regulate this such that children are given enough time to be 18 before deciding what sexual path to follow then I can successfully conclude that it is downright evil and it is an effort to inject sexual perversion and early ideas about homosexuality into children.
