But if you are married your prayers is to get pregnant regardless of whatever anyone may think. Please take care of your Pregnancy and do not be bothered by this wicked boss of yours. Leave your future in God's hand and it will be well with you.

Same question on my mind. Are you married or you're pregnant for your boyfriend? Two different things that should get two different actions from your employer who you say is a pastor.

I got a job as a school administrator within my area two months ago without knowing I was already pregnant. I enjoy my job and every day I am researching on how I can improve the school but suddenly I observed I was about 2 months pregnant and I told the director due to the fact that I work directly with her as her PA and School administrator .

one major reason I told her was because I felt she was a pastor and she might not be angry but to my surprise after I told her attitude changed towards me she instructed the principal to issue a probation letter of 3 months to me, and also she told me DAT I would go and rest and DAT I would not be benefitical to
them. the worst part is DAT she had be acting cold towards me and has taken off most of my duties from me. I feel bad and I don't know what to do now.
pls do you advice I do especially now secure it a job is only by God's grace.
I totally understand how you feel and I know it hurts but Mentioning that your employer is a pastor suggest that you are trying to gain more sympathy by bringing down Christianity. Even pastors are humans and the bible did not mention pastors as the yardstick for measuring holiness. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith so says the Holy bible. Not man. All organisations have rules and regulations. Maybe you should start by finding out if your contravened the rules through this act and kindly know that you don't suddenly get pregnant. Every unprotected intercourse you have may lead to pregnancy hence the need for protection. May God guide you on the next path of life to take in Jesus name

Are you married? If not... then why would you think it wouldn't be a problem with Pastor Director? Don't you know how these pastors hate sex before marriage? ... so why would she be preaching one thing in church and have unmarried pregnant you as her PA? ... telling the kids in school the same and having you as her PA? You should expect this kind reaction.. not be surprised by it.
If not being pregnant was not stated in the contract or rules then they should not fire you for that. If they want to... then they would find another reason... being late often... absent. .. something else. Her being nice and warm and friendly with you was not in the agreement so bear with it.... be efficient and everything would work itself out.

my wife was sacked when she was 8months pregnant so that she'll not be paid when she will be on maternity leave after working for them for 4years.she was working as a sales rep for one pharmaceutical company called sylken pharmacy(makers of Adams desire etc) that has their office located at Apapa. When they noticed she was pregnant, they started maltreating her with disdain couple with query upon query so as to frustrate all her efforts. The last straw that broke the camel's back was when it was time for her to ask for maternity leave, they ordered her to return her official car that it is due to change without knowing that it was a way of dispossessing her of it and when she returned the car and got home only to see a sack mail sent to her. This company is owned by Anambra man from Awka maybe u'll be thinking is one of these Indians or maybe lebanese. That is to show you how cruel and heartless our people can be to another. However,we thank God that She has successfully put to bed and has also gotten a new job .

Exactly to some companies it seems like distrust because am assuming once employed you are entitled to maternity leave which involves leave with payment, as also you just got employed and somehow you won't be capable to perform most of the duties you were employed for. In other words the company loses. let's leave sentiments aside that information should have been made known prior to employment.
The company will not lose o, another person is waiting to assume her position.
On a serious note now, some organisations don't emphatically state out their rules and regulations (especially one man business). Where I work, you have to get your confirmation first, if you haven't gotten it_ you'll still be allowed to proceed on your leave but without full benefits.

She is already 2mths pregnant, she has 7mths to go, of which she would get a whole lot clumsy within the 7mths. Let us not forget she would take antenatal days off. Then the 3mths leave(it could stretch till 4-6mths in some states/organisations) , she would then want to resume 1hr later and close 1hr earlier, she would probably take immunisation days off grin

Haba, pity the school too... sad
Who would relieve her within this period?

@OP, the Lord is your strength. I hope those mofos on NL that think it is easy to combine career and child bearing are seeing this.

OP please go see a labour lawyer, the ignorance on this thread is staggering.
There are laws against discrimination in place for women in the workplace. You cannot be terminated because you are pregnant. However, you can be terminated on the grounds that you did not meet the probation requirements. Basically, what you should do now is try to gather evidence that shows you were terminated because of your pregnancy because they will try to raise the probation argument in Court.

Your employer is private and cannot be forced to re-hire you after termination but you can get enough damages to last you until you give birth.

Just resign and go home.
Most persons doesn't encourage working with one who's pregnant. Considering de fact that she will keep taking excuses of going to the hospital for check up during those period of pregnancy. Her taking some duties from you, is a kind of releaf, knowing fully well you pregnant and wouldn't wanno stress you.

But you didn't even tell us if you were impregnated by your husband (married) or your bf undecided . buh if you married, just resign and endure for a year. God will strengthen your husband and you wouldn't lack.

There are Always two sides to a story so your wife may not have told you the whole truth here.

The fact that your wife was pregnant does not mean she should not do her job diligently.

Some pregnant ladies tend to go about with a feeling of entitlement, take things for granted and generally think they can stroll in and stroll out of the office anytime they like under the pretex of Morning Sickness.

Pregnancy is not a disease!

Not every employer can tolorate that sort of insolence...

It is very unreasonable for you to assume a new role and expect to just 'run off' after less than 6 months on the job under the pretext of being pregnant.

Would you be happy to pay a new employee for 3 months not to mention the additional burden of having to find a replacement during the period of incapacity?

As far as I'm concerned the information regarding the pregnancy should have been made available to the employer at the interview state so he\she can make an informed choice on who to hire.

I have worked with some very harworking ladies who did their job efficiently till they put to bed...once you can demonstrate that you are adding value then I see no reason why you should have any problems smiley

The only other issue here is the woman's role as a pastor and role model...having an unmarried pregnant personal assistant will make her look like a hypocrite

Very enlightening post. But seems like this means nothing to most.... they prefer to remain ignorant of the laws that protect them and be still wondering why companies continue to sack them. Like Coco law commented... the ignorance on this thread is staggering.

anyway, don't be afraid of sacking my dear. when one door of happiness closes another one is opened but most often we look too much at the closed door that we don realize the one that has been opened for us. i wish you and your baby happiness. when i have the opportunity i will communicate with you if am giving a slot in my place of work.

If you are sure you are not being slothful in your duty or forming ''you-must-pity-me'' or can't-you-see-i-am-pregnant'' attitude, then let them sack you and sue for discrimination and damages if you have the money and the time or you can get a good pro bono lawyer.
