How did she know the room was hot?

Room temperature measurement or subjective analysis?

Good evening everyone.

Straight to the point. In all my years of med school, I must say this is the only place I've both been appreciated for my efforts into ensuring we all succeed. One would assume that the medical students in my school would be primary beneficiaries, but that's story for another day.

Some weeks ago, I discovered some textbooks in Internal Medicine and Surgery that will certainly make your journey in Clinicals very easy. They're very straight to the point and contain relevant details that will be required of you. This would be the only place I will give those books to anyone.

Send me a pm using your mail to request for them, and I'll forward it to those interested.

i think this is what happens----blood from d hyperglycemic mum passes thru the placenta but hormones which control glucose homeostasis do not cross d placenta. The foetus produces its own glucose regulating hormones.Long term exposure to hyperglycemia leads to high increase in insulin secretion (hyperinsulinemia) in the fetus to decrease blood sugar .At birth, the constant supply of hyperglycemic blood is removed while hyperinsulinism remains thus causing hypoglycemia. Hyperinsulinism does not cease immediately at birth because it is an endocrine process and so response is slow and the effect is for a long time. Hypoglycemia in newborns (not infants)can last until the 3rd hour after birth after which blood sugar level rises spontaneously perhaps after the effect hyperinsulin is over.
With your explanations, glucose transport across the placenta is not regulated which is not so.
1. Most of the glucose from the maternal blood won't get to the fetus but metabolised in the placenta.
2. This would prevent accumulation of monosaccharides that the fetus' enzyme system cannot yet metabolise eg galactosemia = cataract in the baby.
So large amount of glucose might get to the uterine arteries and get to the intervillous space but pick up to the fetal blood is tightly regulated.

You really don't need any conviction. Seeing as you are smart enough to type this, you'd definitely get medicine. And yes you are right, several teaching Hospitals have resorted to closing their Dental units because patients have resorted to extracting their teeth at home.

It's so easy. You should try it sometimes. smiley
Don't say what you don't know dude. pls can you give me an example of any Hospitals dental unit closed for your baseless reasons.

Question is; how is possible that a hyperglycemic mum gave birth to a hypoglycemic baby?

Glucose from maternal blood crosses placental barrier and stimulates the beta islet cells in pancreas of the neonate to secrete insulin.

Hyperinsulinemia leads to reduction in neonatal plasma glucose level leading to hypoglycemia.

It is the maternal glucose that serves as a stimulus for neonatal insulin secretion not maternal insulin.
