You Thought Jesus Was A Carpenter, As In A Furniture Maker? by MrPresident1: 11:40pm On Aug 04, 2016 |
So you think Jesus was a 'Furniture' abi? Jeremiah 24:1 The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon. The Bible did not mean that Joseph was a carpenter in the sense of today’s meaning of the word. In ancient times, the word ‘carpenter’ was used to describe the elite, the learned and wise men, the kings and princes of ancient Israel, the highest levels of nobility. The word ‘Carpenter’ as used in the Bible in Greek means ‘Tekton’ and ‘Tekton’ means ‘Artisan’ or ‘Craftsman’, or ‘Mason’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekt%C5%8Dn 1 Like 1 Share |

The Ancient Greek noun tektōn (τέκτων) is a common term for an artisan/craftsman, in particular a carpenter or wood-worker or builder. In the time of Christ (2000 BCE-400 AD), the term carpenter (Tektōn) was defined as a stoneworker or mason. http://freethoughtnation.com/was-the-historical-jesus-a-carpenter/ Tekton as ‘craftsman’ The Greek word used to describe Jesus and Joseph as a “carpenter” in the New Testament is τέκτων or tekton (Strong’s G5045), which is defined as: 1) a worker in wood, a carpenter, joiner, builder (NOAH) 2) a ship’s carpenter or builder (NOAH) 3) any craftsman, or workman (TIMOTHY) 4) the art of poetry, maker of songs (SOLOMON) 5) a planner, contriver, plotter (DAVID) 6) an author (MOSES, DAVID) As we can see, the designation in English of this word as “carpenter” is arbitrary, and there is little reason to suspect that it is more accurate than these other renderings. Jesus, therefore, could have been any sort of craftsman, including one who works with stone, making of him a mason. In this same regard, the word tekton in modern Greek oddly means “Freemason.” 2 Likes |

Matthew 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Jesus is described as the son of a carpenter to show that he descended from the highest level of nobility, and also that he had the best kind of education, the one reserved for the ruling class from which he descended. And Jesus Christ descended from the House of David, the house of David is the ruling class in Israel Romans 1:3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; |

The Nobility of ancient Israel are described as carpenters and smiths because they were the ones who built the temple of God, the temple of God is the heart of man, they were the learned men of old who led the people and taught them the law and commands and statutes of THE MOST HIGH GOD; this is the meaning of building the temple of God. They were the shepherds of Israel who fed the flock of God. Jesus was a Mason, a born Mason. Jesus the Master Mason/ The Great Carpenter is coming to build the 3rd Temple, are you prepared to be part of that temple, the great habitation of God? Ephesians 2:14-22 14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. 1 Like |

MrPresident1:1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. 6And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee; 7The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, 8And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense, 9And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot, 10And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office - Exodus 31:1-10 KJ Whether carpenter or mason, Jesus as a matter of fact, is a craftsman Jesus would be just as Bezaleel and Oholiab, who were craftsmen skilled in in the cutting of stones for settings and in the carving of wood |

MrPresident1:At a time when it made no difference per se! Else, Joseph wouldnt need to flee from place to place when Herod etc did what they did. Besides, Strong's Exhaustive Concordance carpenter. From the base of timoria; an artificer (as producer of fabrics), i.e. (specially), a craftsman in wood -- carpenter. Hence carpenter has NOTHING to do with nobility at that time! Besides, your claims to best of education is debunked by this: And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? John 7:15 4 Likes |

Re: You Thought Jesus Was A Carpenter, As In A Furniture Maker? by MrPresident1: 8:43pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
MuttleyLaff Jesus was not a 'Furniture' , the Bible is written in allegories and figurative language. In the passage you have quoted, the tabernacle of the congregation, the ark of testimony, the mercy seat, all the furniture of the tabernacle, the table, and his furniture, the pure candlestick with all his furniture, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, the layer and his foot: they are all figurative language for different levels of men who performed different services in the house of God. It is the Bible's way of describing Councillors, LGA Chairmen, state lawmakers aka honourables, house of Reps members, Senators, Ambassadors, Directors, Permanent secretaries, DGs, Professors, Doctors, Engineers, Mechanics, Nurses, Civil servants, the President... all of them performing different functions in the society, so also all these descriptions of the accoutrements of the tabernacle of the congregation are just men performing different functions in the tabernacle, the tabernacle is the society/city. Bezaleel of Judah and Aholiab of Dan were the best teachers of the law, they produced the best vessels of gold, silver and brass. The vessels of the house of God are not pots and plates and pans, they are men. Moses' Tabernacle of congregation, and Solomon's Temple are the same thing. The gold, silver, iron, the vessels and accoutrements of both structures were all men. [b] 2 Chronicles 4:18-22 Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out. 19 And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set; 20 Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the oracle, of pure gold; 21 And the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, made he of gold, and that perfect gold; 22 And the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold. 2 Chronicles 36:17-20 17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. 20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: Ezra 5:13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God. 14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor; 15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place. Muttleylaff, In conclusion, to help give you complete perspective Jesus Christ is called the son of a carpenter or the carpenter to show that he was born of the highest echelons of the nobility of Israel. Ezra 5:14 14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor; Jerusalem itself was the temple of God, take note of how both the capital of Israel and the capital of Babylon are referred to as temples; subtle nuances you have to look intently at before you can to see them |

JMAN05: Jesus was not a 'furniture', he did not deal with literal wood. Jesus is described as the carpenter's son to point to the fact that he descended from the highest echelons of ancient Israelite nobility. Jesus is a prince of the house of David. The carpenters of the temple were the gold of the temple. |

Scholar8200: You and Muttleylaff are exchanging likes Jesus was not a 'furniture' , Jesus descended from the gold of the temple, the gold of the temple re the carpenters and they were the highest echelons of ancient Israelite nobility. And you have to read the Bible in context (keep in mind that Jesus Christ is not a single person but a composite of characters). the people were amazed at Jesus' mastery of the Scriptures because he did not belong to the school of the Pharisees or the Sadducees whom everyone saw as the most learned men those times ( the rulership of the house of David was interrupted during the time of Jesus). Read the verse below the one you quoted, apart from being born of the highest nobility, he was also anointed by God Himself John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. |

Goshen360: The Bible is written at many levels, the surface level is for people like you who thrive on milk , the deeper levels, the gold mine is reserved for people who 'by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.' What I teach is for the mature, the meat eaters, the bone crushers, it will never make sense to milk drinkers, so you see Goshen360, this meat does not make meaning to you because you are not yet mature enough to receive it. Pray to God for wisdom Hebrews 5:11b seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. |

MuttleyLaff: My bad Analice107 has become so used to the Bible that she now speaks in figurative language and allegories, and you and others are now so attuned with her in spirit that you now see her words rather than hear her words, how interesting . I really have to up my game mehn . Actually, the deeper layers of the Bible, the Gold mine, as analice107 has so correctly put it, is written in pictures, not in words. Talking snakes, worldwide floods, Jesus on the way to Golgotha, Daniel in the Lion's den, the temple of God and its vessels, Job and his travails, etc., are all pictorial presentations of actual events. The scribes of old who through the inspiration of God wrote the Bible were very learned men, and they coded their sayings in such a way that only the initiated ever understood their meaning/intentions. They were called the oracles of God. If anyone wants to understand the true depths of the words of the oracles of God you have to start from Proverbs 1:7a, then you will begin to unravel the secrets of the dark sayings Psalm 78:2-7 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: 3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. 5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: 6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: |
