I saw this interesting article somewhere online and I felt I should share it, its hilarious but true. Enjoy:

I have said it here before that the Nigerian brand of atheism is just one bundle of hilariousness.

But, like normal bacterial flora, that belief system (Yes, it is a belief system that believes it’s all about a lack of belief grin grin.) still does have its usefulness to the body of Christ, especially as planet earth prepares to wrap up its existence.

But I can bet a thousand pounds on the fact that Nigerians would never take atheists seriously anytime soon.

Not only is that belief system hilariously incoherent, it does not in anyway appeal to the Nigerian spirit.

First, all atheism offers is hopelessness.
We are all products of random chance, there is no reason for our existence and after all our sufferings: no light, no fuel, no food, we all will just die piiii like that.

shocked shocked shocked

Nothing somebody wee norr hear shaa!

For your information and in the spirit of kindness, I am telling you this free of charge: Don’t you ever tell that to a Nigerian.

The Nigerian spirit is an optimistic one.

NEPA don take light? No wahala!

We would simply straighten our clothes with charcoal iron and turn up at that wedding or that house-opening like an army of powerful wildebeests.

Because tomorrow go better!

God dey!

Have you ever thought of what keeps that Keke driver sane in the midst of severe fuel scarcity?

Like, at the end of the day, all he goes home with to meet his pregnant wife and six children all under the age of ten, is N3000 ($9.38)?
The rent has piled up, quit notice is on the table, the twins are down with malaria, school fees have not been paid, the roof is leaking rain water, and you come to tell him there is no God, that this life is utterly meaningless and the odds that things will get better for him are no more certain than getting a double six in a game of ludo?

Do you mean him well?
You want him to end up on crack?

Na waa for you people o.

Or what do you think about the young lady who was gang-raped by cult-boys at the university?
Cult-boys who are now married with children, living the life, working in oil rigs (or in politics), snapping and posting lovey-dovey pictures on Instagram?

You come to social media to type that there is no God, no ultimate justice, no karma, no judgement.
So she sits still to let your message sink in, carefully considering how much these guys have stuffed the police and the courts with money.

She realises that the arm of justice in Nigeria is very short.

Her hope is in the God of heaven who you are trying (rather unsuccessfully I must say) to deny?

You want to turn her into an assassin?
Oh, you are shaking your head.. No be you say morality is relative/subjective?

Ekwe!

And the widow at the ministry of finance who has not been paid for months? What do you think is preventing her from just stealing all the money in the treasury?
Her children are sick, the promised change has turned into a mirage, mosquitoes are biting with double fury. But she chooses not to steal.

She tells you that there is a Supreme Judge to whom she has to answer, but you scornfully say no, He doesn’t exist and morality is relative.

Are you seeing yourself?

The annoying part of this campaign is that it is full of lies.

I have heard Nigerian atheists say that many developed countries are atheistic.

So, should Nigerians troway their faiths inside dustbin, we would magically transform into Scandinavia!

Ugha! Lies!

Take a look at this statistic from Norway.

83%!!

Let that sink in for a moment.

We realise that mere religion without a true relationship with God has done a lot of hemehe in this world.

The reason is very simple: Religion is an attempt to get to God. It is humanly engineered and so is bound to be riddled with errors. Sometimes, very serious ones.

But, that cannot in anyway disprove the existence of God!
That there are thousands of fake N500 notes in circulation cannot disprove the existence of genuine notes.

What people like me have dedicated our lives to, is to point Nigerians to the true God, to make us realise the futility of merely professing religion without a true connection to God, and to re-emphasise these words spoken by Jesus Christ who is God incarnate.

He said:

“God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24).

That is what we need in our dear nation.

Patriotism and a relationship with God are not mutually exclusive.

In fact, true patriotism, in every meaning of that phrase, requires a genuine relationship with Yaweh.

So, Nigerian atheists, you guys can as well pick another struggle.

We full blooded Nigerians are not ready to listen to your incoherence.

As hilarious as this lady's post might be, it contains serious elements of truth.
I've been trying to get into the mind of atheists around me for a long time, and all I can perceive is pain and hurt as I am yet to see one Nigerian whose atheism is not as a result of emotional trauma or drug/sexual freedom.

Truly atheism is incoherent. In one breath, it simply defines itself as a lack of belief in God or gods, in another breath, its proponents constantly claim the following views:
- Rejection of religion.
- Conformity to logic and reason
- The acceptance of science
- The belief that their is no God(s): This Belief could be the only logical reason for their bigotry.
- The rejection of dogma
- Science
-Free thinking and open-mindedness
- And more recently, sanity grin.

What exactly is atheism?, before you say jack they are already telling you about elementary science. Most of their topics here are on religion. One hcpaull has even recently been professing sanity upandan. Another one Agent of allah describes it as an admission of apathy towards God.

Is it that atheism is devoid of substance and has nothing to profess in the absence of religion, science e.t.c

Some of them even side with irreligion by mentioning irreligious countries. Many irreligious people believe in God if not most. I was also irreligious at a time. Does this mean atheism also has to cling to irreligion to validate its stand?
Is there absolutely nothing atheism has to profess for itself?

Before ignorant Nigerian atheists start to tell me that atheism is not a thing or body, its the absense of it or its just a lack of belief in God, here are some atheistic organizations:

-The Freedom from Religion Foundation
- Atheists for Human Rights
- Freethought Society
- Atheist Alliance International
- The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinker
- Anti-Defamation League: Dedicated to battling and defaming christianity.
- Atheist Centre
- New Atheist Movement
- International League of Non-Religious and Atheists
- Rationalist International
- and hundreds of other bodies.

What do these people profess? Atheism? Definately not!!!
They are concerned with the defamation of religion, promotion of atheist states, mockery of religious people, and erecting structures that degrade religion and religious peoole.

So before some uninformed Nigerians start to spit atheism is not a thing, they should get their facts right first.

The lady also rightly says that all atheism offers is hopelessness. Human beings naturally craves hope. Even atheists who ask us to focus on the "here and now", hope for a better tomorrow. I've given an example here before on the hopelessness of atheism

The late atheist, William Provine said: “No inherent moral or ethical laws exist, nor are there any absolute guiding principles for human society. The universe cares nothing for us and we have no ultimate meaning in life”.

So why do they wish to desperately sell their hopelessness to us? Do they have some sort of personality disorder?.

Why do they blame religion and religious people for the woes of Nigeria? Is it true that the number of religious determines the development/underdevelopment of a country? Is there any study to validate this? Of course not!!!. And why do they focus on christians even when it is glaring that islam destroys souls every single day. Do they really care about religion or is it just Christianity?undecided

Russia (142,500,482),

Why are they trying to capitalize on the woes of Africa.

Africa is its own problem. Give Nigeria money, it wont solve her problems because those at the helm of affairs revere neither God nor Human life and will loot the money at the expense of poor masses.
As the lady above said, our leaders need to fear God and worship him in Spirit and in truth. Africa truly needs God.

Journalist and professed atheist Matthew Paris, upon reflecting of his journey to Africa in his piece as an atheist said; I truly believe Africa needs God, he noted the positive impacts Christianity has had. Essentially, Parris believes, that to remove Christian evangelism from Africa will “leave the continent at the mercy of a malign fusion of Nike, the witch doctor, the mobile phone and the machete”. Paris believes that “Africa needs God…Missionaries, not aid money,” as they “are the solution to Africa’s biggest problem—the crushing passivity of the people’s mindset”.

Parris also saw how those professing belief in Jesus’ name has made life more bearable for many people in Africa. He explains: “Now a confirmed atheist, I’ve become convinced of the enormous contribution that Christian evangelism makes in Africa: sharply distinct from the work of secular NGOs, government projects and international aid efforts. These alone will not do. In Africa Christianity changes people’s hearts. It brings a spiritual transformation. The rebirth is real. The change is good”.

However, Parris explained that this doesn’t seem to fit his atheism: “It inspired me, renewing my flagging faith in development charities. But travelling in Malawi refreshed another belief, too: one I’ve been trying to banish all my life, but an observation I’ve been unable to avoid since my African childhood. It confounds my ideological beliefs, stubbornly refuses to fit my worldview, and has embarrassed my growing belief that there is no God”.

Similarly, another atheist, Hattersley, criticizes his fellow atheists for their lack of effort in relief effort: “You don’t hear of “Atheist Aid” rather like Christian aid, and, I think, despite my inability to believe myself, I’m deeply impressed by what belief does for people like the Salvation Army… I often say I never hear of atheist organizations taking food to the poor”.

Another atheist Richard Norman explains that “Christianity has inspired not only some of the worst but also most of the best human achievements…. To present christianity and its works in a wholly negative light would in my view be hopelessly unbalanced”.

The prestigious Mayo Clinic found that religious involvement and spirituality are associated with better physical health and mental health outcomes.

Religion has "enormous potential for lowering the risk of substance abuse among teens and adults," according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse

Atheism is devoid of substance, its is embarrasingly hopeless and seriously lacks retention. Thats why the 2016 International atheist reason rally which was held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. had an embrassingly low turnout of less than 10,000 people after its attendance had been predicted to be over 30,000.

This comes to no surprise. Atheism does not have the intellectual credentials needed in order to be rationally accepted by the educated and rational person. It proposes the non-existence of God without supplanting that claim with evidence - something they constantly request of theists.

In Nigeria and Africa in general, God helps the masses to get through the madness that their terrible and corrupt leaders have subjected them to. And this hope for a better tomorrow will not be stolen by angry atheists.

So as the lady in the oP said;

Because tomorrow go beta, God dey grin

Atheism is devoid of substance, its is embarrasingly hopeless and seriously lacks retention. Thats why the 2016 International atheist reason rally which was held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. had an embrassingly low turnout of less than 12,000 people after its attendance had been predicted to be over 30,000.

This idea of atheism is SO MUCH OVER HYPED here on nairaland!

I saw one thread by seun posting trash, but that's so pessimistic. Because atheism IS NEVER a new thing!

It has been from the old! There is nothing absolutely new!

People love the truth and no matter how people hear a lie, it can NEVER sound as good as a truth.

Nobody wants to be hopeless!

What people want is freedom, but that freedom would be the doom of this world.

Assuming, atheism is the order of the day, what do you think will be happening? Not far from other bushmeat activities.

Why do they not just tell us the benefits atheism has to offer? Is there none?

They even have atheist churches
http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21319945
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/11/10/atheist-mega-churches/3489967/

I can imagine what they do in atheist mega churches. If atheism has substance, could they not just name it atheist worship centres?, why churches? undecided
Tim Hawkins wonders what they teach kids at the children section of the atheist mega churches.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26nJjNDsbmk

China has a christian population of more than 1,349,585,838,
U.S.A (316, 668,567),
Nigeria (174,507,539),
Russia (142,500,482),

Why are they trying to capitalize on the woes of Africa.

Africa is its own problem. Give Nigeria money, it wont solve her problems because those at the helm of affairs revere neither God nor Human life and will loot the money at the expense of poor masses.
As the lady above said, our leaders need to fear God and worship him in Spirit and in truth. Africa truly needs God.

A widow whom has not been paid for months don't need to steal all she need is work harder look for another good source of income to sustain herself than relying on manner from heaven which will not come and so does the girl that was raped she should focus her energy on how to get justice than relying on justice from a fairy god.

The Bible has made us lazy kai when a poor man see a rich man he says it's his destiny to be rich while his own destiny is to be poor. Instead of him to work harder use his brain however he can to be successful he listens to one pastor that tells him God said HE WILL FAVOUR WHO HE WILL FAVOUR making the poor either to fast and pray for God's favour or takes heart that he is not to be favoured by God

You're right to some extent.
But God does not have bad plans for anyone, His plans are to give us a future and a Hope. The Bible also discourages laziness and encourages hardwork.
No one takes heart that he is not to be favoured by God, that is not christian-like

The girl who was raped could get justice by vengeance because of the lawlessness that fills the system.
I wonder those who have this mentality that some should be successful and some shouldnt, they are definately not true christians. Ive never met such people.

You are on point sister!

As for the seun's plan via atheistic evangelism, it is already dead on arrival!

What makes me laugh at atheism is that IT IS NEVER A NEW THING! It has been from the beginning!

At times, I come across insincere atheists challenging me to give them a video proof of God's existence before they can believe.

But to be frank, absence of a video proof is not the basis for their atheistic lives, because most of them are atheists because they don't want God to be real, so they stick to what makes them feel good.

Even in the days of moses, the people of Israelites doubted God even when God did many miracles in their VERY EYES.

They doubt miracles and when you prove it to be real, they resort to foolish excuses.

The problem with atheism is a devilish one, no joke!

But, my way out of unbelif was SINCERITY!

You are on point sister!

As for the seun's plan via atheistic evangelism, it is already dead on arrival!

What makes me laugh at atheism is that IT IS NEVER A NEW THING! It has been from the beginning!

Good, now open your holy book and point out "evil" carried out by atheists.

Bring that and we'll talk; the realisation would hit you that no evil was done by an atheist in that holy book of yours.

At times, I come across insincere atheists challenging me to give them a video proof of God's existence before they can believe.

Bros, everyone of the 5000 gods' worshippers believe their god to be true, I believe by "God", you mean " Yahweh"; since they have just as much "proof" as you have, it only makes sense to us that we stay the way we are, after all anyone and everyone of those 5000 gods could be wrong, the reason you reject the other 4999 is why I reject yours

But to be frank, absence of a video proof is not the basis for their atheistic lives, because most of them are atheists because they don't want God to be real, so they stick to what makes them feel good.

Most of you are theists because you want god to be real

Even in the days of moses, the people of Israelites doubted God even when God did many miracles in their VERY EYES.

Then that same God of yours carried out many things that you and I would call "evil" if it were done by any of the other 4999; if you doubt this, kindly read your book and wherever your god commanded people to kill innocent children, punish innocent people for Abraham's lies e.t.c, when you get to such places, replace the name of your god there with Vishnu and judge for yourself; I know you'll have excuses ready but other religions have excuses for the "evil" their gods did too

They doubt miracles and when you prove it to be real, they resort to foolish excuses.

One of your believers with a huge level of faith has decided to make an amputee's limbs grow right before our eyes with the name of Jesus, when I see that work, I'll join you

The problem with atheism is a devilish one, no joke!

I'm sure Buddhism is a "devilish one"

Islam is a "devilish one"

Hinduism is a "devilish one"

Anyone who doesn't share your belief is a "devilish one"

Even Christians themselves can't agree on which one is right, Jehovah's witnesses believe only them is following the doctrine

Catholics believe only them is following the doctrine

And it divides and keeps dividing

No need going too far to confirm that, you can see such arguments here on Nairaland, just look in threads and you'll see them call each other "the devil"

But, my way out of unbelif was SINCERITY!

My way out of delusion is SINCERITY

Delusion is hard to spot, hence I may be more deluded now than ever but only time would tell

If all these are your basis for the existence of your god then I must obviously tell you that you should count us out.

Religion has not totally displace the position of individual characters. There are some people that still choose to rule their lives from within.

Example:

- Bill Gate: You guys call the guy a Christian but he publicly said that he find it difficult to go to church on a Sunday morning as he has a lot of issues to attend to as well as optimizing his allocation on time management.

Though the guy is not a Christian as he once publicly declaim but this is how many people in the western world take Christianity.
They rule their lives from within and intend to solve human problems by not invoking prayers as our Nigerian Christian brothers do, but instead substituted education (sanity & rationality) for religion (ignorance & insanity) by their readiness to transform their primitive state and eventually become less primitive.

The emergence of education is the demotion and the demolition of religious institutions. That is why most of the past prophets, Saviour and the Apostles are not educated and seemingly opposed education.
Religion like Islam are still fighting western education.

Your view that western education is a work of religious men is still questionable. Or is it because that education was presented to you by western religious men??

They only use what they have in their own country to trick you.

But finally, your points of discuss is baseless and your claims are apparently clueless.

I saw a thread by seun calling on his fellow Nigerian atheist to become outspoken.... I mean not just here on nairaland anymore but out there to Nigerians. And all I could think of is 'disciples'.

What an average Nigerian need is proper education not hopelessness in form of atheism

Try to imagine the majority illiterate Nigerians having the mentality of most of the atheist on here, and imagine what state Nigeria will be in - I laugh in China. They make it seem like atheism is one savior the whorld needs.

As if atheism makes everything better

As if atheism brings peace

As if atheism helps me love better

As if atheism makes me blind to the flaws of others

And as if atheism makes wiser..... They should tell that to the lot of illiterate Nigerians (Not my great grandma that have been a witch and been dilivered and seen the power of God work)

Goodluck to telling the witches in edo state that tongue

My sister God bless you
