What if I cover the O2 sensor with something which has high heat resistance like exhaust sealer so that no air will be read through? or completely remove the sensor what will happen??

as THE PRESIDENT of FRIENDS OF THE EARTH, NIGERIA BRANCH...I SAY THIS UR MOD IS increasing the emission/pollution level of ur car...pls stop it..the catalytic converter was placed in the car to help cut down on exhaust gas/emissions.........removing is contributing to green house gases n pollution...imagine what wud happen if 30% of all car owners in lagos copied this mod?

It is important to note that almost or if not all brand new cars sold in Nigeria do not have emission control systems installed. Same with tokunbo cars from europe. Mostly tokumbo cars from North America are the ones with emission control due to their laws. We dont have such laws in Africa.

I do not mean its a good thing to perform the tweak, if you care for the environment and can afford to maintain you emission control system, please do. If you cant afford to keep the system intact, do what the op says to have a better mileage if there is a CEL due to the system.

It is designed to test for specific range of oxygen in the exhaust gases, if you remove entirely, the sensor will not be fooled since the oxygen level will be above the specific range and will almost certainly throw you a different code.

please help. my 2004 camry 4. cylinder has a exhaust leak around the position of the catalytic converter. i sealed it and noticed rapidly dropped mpg( increased fuel consumption) , last week week i travelled an had a leak around the same point and the fuel consumption dropped significantly. I am made to believe that leaking exhaust increases fuel use , why is my car's opposite of the normal ? abeg make una help

If your observation is actually true and no hidden issue, then the only variable that explain this if you have a restricted exhaust.
If you need a professional to accurate diagnosis this without removing a single screw ,you can call autologic @ 08061166316

All talk and more talk. You guys fail to realise that modern cars fitted with catalytic converters are meant to operate efficiently with unleaded petrol. Most of the fuel we use in Nigeria is imported or locally produced without approved specifications and are dispensed by petrol stations all over the country without displayed specifications. Leaded fuel can easily damage or foul catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.

If your catalyst was plugged up before you removed it, fuel economy will improve by doing this.
If not, no effect on fuel economy.
thanks for the info bro ,but what do you really mean by plugged catalyst?

I succeeded in adding the spark plug adaptors/defoulers, in order to trick the O2 sensor..today..I just hope the CEL(Check engine light)...light won't pop up as a result of the missing catalysts...covered about 35 miles thereafter and the CEL light hasn't popped up..yet. cheesy

This car has double exhaust, which of these needs to be worked on? Each of them is connected to one exhaust.

I really would love to try this on my toyota rav4 V6 engine, Have thrown 2 brand new O2 sensors to the engine yet the light is thrown back at me and the fuel economy is very bad.

Will it be done on the 2 downstream sensors since i have a V6 engine configuration.
