Hello house, ....
Celebrate with me as my LO arrived on Friday the 19th of August at 39 weeks 4days....

Pls house, I have a little question, people that have flown Lufthansa on this missionary journey, pls how did you add infant ticket? Was it over the phone or at the airport on the day of travel? Also, how much was baby's one leg ticket added? I have called their customers service and I got a quote of $356. I thought its meant to be 10% of my own fare. Do you think I can get a cheaper quote at the airport on the day of travel? Kindly help a sister. Though our trip back to Naija is still in October. Thank you

Congratulations Oluphilip.

Please I'm interested in the answer cos I will be using Lufthansa in November. Did anyone get a cheaper quote at the airport cos this $365 plenty in this recession.

Hello house,
I am glad to announce to you lovely people that I gained a lot from this forum. A friend referred me this forum to me Tho and I took my time to go through all the pages here.
Anyways in the spirit of giving back lol...
I had my interview on the 2nd of August in lagos, 6:30 am, I was 33weeks. I was the first person on the queue and I was the first person to be interviewed.
My interview went like this....
Me: Good morning (with a smile).
VO: Good morning, passport please. (passed my passport)
VO: Why are you going to the U.S.? Me: Childbirth.
VO: oh! Where?
Me: Houston,Texas.
VO: Pass me all your documents.
(Then I passed my doctor's correspondence, receipt from Dr Dama stating the amount I have paid, hospitals documents and receipts, accommodation receipt from Sojurbanliving, budget sheet, statement of account, maternity leave letter, husband's sponsorship letter, and marriage certificate).
She went through everything.
VO: How did you find out about this doctor? Me: A colleague of mine referred him to me that he's really good and he also delivered his wife's and everything seemed perfect.
So I went online, I got his number, called him. I was sent an email informed about the fees and what I needed to do and know. Vo: ok, how much will this trip cost you Me: About 16,000 dollars equivalent to 'so so so' in naira(I said the amount then because dollar was 360 then). VO: What do you do?
Me: I work for 'Bla Bla bla investments' as the 'bla bla bla' , I earn 'bla bla bla' but my husband is the main sponsor of the trip.
Vo: oh, I see. What does your husband do? Me: He's the ceo of 'bla bla bla' with the capacity of 'bla bla bla' staffs, it's located at 'bla bla bla' VO: (typing and going through the documents) Okay, make sure you pay up your balance. me: Yes ma'am
Vo: Pick up your visa in 3 days time (then she gave me the white paper and my documents.
I was happy ehn like really I got the white paper. Yaay! I flew airfrance/klm 3weeks and 2days after @36weeks ; Lagos-Amsterdam-Houston, my poe was houston. I had enough background knowledge on how it's gonna be from what I read here. When we got to IAH, I entered the restroom to clean my face and look a bit fresh U kno as a fine geh.
Cbp: (tries calling my name) or didn't I pronounce it right? Me : I'll give you 4/10 on the pronunciation. (We both chuckled) Cbp: Okay, so why are you in houston? Me: Childbirth. Cbp: Where exactly are you going to? Me: Sugar land Cbp: Where will you be staying? And how long will you be staying for? Me: I already sorted my accommodation with s
Spring of Joy Urban Living and I have made payment. I have a letter stating that and the address of where I will be staying. I will be staying for two months.
Cbp: Oh let's see, have you contacted any doctor? Me: oh yes! Dr Dama Ziwortin and I have also sorted the bills. Cbp: Okay, do you have receipts? Me: Yes.
(passed him all the receipts including the hospital's, with the budget sheet stating how much I have paid and the balance to be paid) Cbp: So, how do you intend to pay the rest? Me: Well, I am prepared for that. I have 5k cash with me and I have a debit card worth 12k dollars incase of emergency. Cbp: Where is your husband? Is he coming later? Me: He's in Nigeria. Well, I am not sure for now if he will be coming or not. That will depend on his work schedules and all. Cbp: Is this your first ? Me: Yes (blushing).
Cbp: How will you cope alone? Me: Trust me, I will *winks*. Cbp: (smiles) Make sure you don't take Medicaid , Me: Naaah, I won't.
Cbp: I am telling you this just incase you insist you were not told about it. So, I am telling you now. Besides, it will affect your next visit. Do make sure you keep all your receipts.
(then he stamped me in)
Cbp: Enjoy your stay maam .
Me: Thanks (with a broad smile) No secondary inspection, he didn't even count my money, no agric, I brought in all my food stuff. *big smile* And yes, 'no fit to fly' was asked all through the trip. I'm going to be veryyyy honest with you. This your style will not get you very far. If you want a successful visa interview , you MUST read.
2 days is enough to make a choice and contact hospitals. If you pick a hospital, google their details and call/email them.
When you see a post that interests you, click on the person's name and run thru Their posts.
For your question on burden of proof , use google and search 'Nairaland, Phema burden of proof'. You will see her posts and her BOF.
For the other question, No it isn't advisable to use birthing centres for visa purposes. History has shown it isn't favorable. Again, you make hospital choices based on factors that affect u eg costs, transport, accomodation, reviews , proximity to family, etc. Na only u sabi the one when important pass to you.

But the most valuable advice I can give you is READ. RESEARCH. U can get your besto to help you on some things while you search others

When I found this thread I didn't know jack. But I'm also someone that tries not to do "Abeg Abeg"
The mamas in part one were hormonal Chai... But I read as I was reading I was jotting and jotting pages.
You can't write everything neither can u remember everything. If u don't wanna read from d beginning at least start from part 4 get a jotter, then start comparing prices

So I had like pages for different states nd hospitals.. when I see d info I just put page ** of part ** and then I quote the persons moniker or name.

Still researching and taking notes sha...

Yes oo @ firsttymum. Tnx alot.
Pls house I need help. sumtin jst came up. First of all during my visa application I filled in dt I ws going to Houston, I dint fill in doc details as contact person, I used d apartment I will be staying.
But i actually have an uncle in dallas whom I dint even inform of my missionary journey plan as I dint want to stress/bother him being that I dnt knw how he is living wt his family so dnt want him to feel compelled accommodating me and d kids evn wen it's gonna inconvenience him so I left him entirely out of my plans. Sumhow he hrd of my intention and he has confronted me and in d end he ws displeased abt my Houston plan and asked me to change to dallas as him and his family would be glad to have and host us as long as we want, he has even volunteered to help me look fr a hospital ard him. Now d question is how do I go abt it? Having filled in Houston as final destination and even filled in an apartment address as whr I will be staying. Hope it won't give me POE issues. Kindly help a JJC sister.

I have really gained a lot from this forum, thanks to everyone one of you who have contributed immensely to this topic. Now it is my turn to start giving back...lol
We went for our visa interview today in abuja l and DH.below is how it went down, most questions were directed to my DH.
DH/me: good morning
Vo: good morning, passports pls, what is your r/ship
DH: she is my wife
Vo: why are you going to the us
DH: I nearly lost my last child during birth here in Nigerian and due to complications that came up after that, so we decided to seek for a better and quality healthcare and also for a hospital with better facilities.
Vo: you are going for child birth
Dh/ and I: yes
Vo: do you have any correspondence with any doctor
Dh: yes,( pass the doc. Across)
Vo: how did you get the doctor( while going through the doc and typing on his computer)
Dh: we searched thru zocdoc and healthgrade, we went through review of both the hospitals and doctors, then decided on this doctor and the hospital because of the good reviews we got.
Vo: how much do you budget for this
Dh: 17k(USD)
Vo: do you have any travel history
Dh: yes, my work takes me round most countries (vo cuts in)
Vo: where do you work
Dh: I work with........., I do ............
Vo: what does that mean
Dh: explains more in details
Vo: how much do you earn monthly
Dh: I earn ..........
Vo: madam what do you do
Me: I do ......, and I earn ..... But my Dh is the one sponsoring the trip.
Vo: how many children do have
Dh: we have so..so children
Vo: are you travelling with them
Dh: no we are not
Vo: typed for a long time, asked Dh for his bank statement, went thru it, and continued typing. Then asked, who will be taking care of the kids while you travel
Dh: we have arranged for their grandmother that is my mother-in-law to come stay with them.
Vo:/typed for some more, then pass out all our doc.and said that our visa has been approved, gave us the white paper, you will see the detail of how to pick it up. Have a safe trip.
I was so happy, because I was just praying all the prayers I know while watching. Hope my write up is not too long.
From my observation, there is really little luck can do for you, just go prepared, carry all the doc required( Burden of proof).and be confident to explain yourself well also be very honest. This is my first success story.

This is because of the CBN ban. They would find it difficult settling on their Naira cards used outside the country because of forex restriction/ban. Other banks not on the list wont have this problem.
