Today 25th august, I got to Ojota, bus stop around 5:00am waiting for a bus going to Ojuelegba, which is close to my workstation. After like 3 minutes, I heard a guy from a normal yellow danfo bus calling "Ojuelelgba" and as expected I hopped in, along with a Police Officer. Another person boarded some few metres away and the journey continued.
And just like a film scene, i discovered everyone in the bus (about 8 of them) are part of the "one chance" crew, you know what I mean and this included the supposed Policeman. They told me to sit on the floor, searched my bag as if their lives depended on it, took my atm cards and mobile phone. They requested for my pin under the threat of a gun and i obliged. Funny part, they had a POS machine to verify my pin. Alas, it was correct and right there they started sharing the loot, electronically. All these happened while the bus moved at break-neck speed. I even begged them to give me my SIM but they didn't.
Anyway, I thank God cos I wasn't hurt at all, they dropped me around Mushin and sped off in the dark. I got a glimpse of the plate number LAGOS-JJJ-86-something something sha.
I believe God had a purpose for everything that happens to man. I have blocked my SIM and ATM card this morning ASAP.

I'm not a fan of front page stuff but i hope this info will help some commuters and warn them about these criminals here in Lagos. Even when you see an alleged "staff", it does not guarantee the safety of the bus. Only God can protect.

One chance has been in Lagos since 17BC and nothin is being done about it.... cry

My advice: take the exact money you'll be needin in a day and leave ur ATM card at home but if there's need for goin to the bank then enter inside and join the queue (beta late than never)..... wink

A word is enough for the wise cheesy

Very sad. I wonder why someone will work tirelessly to make ends meet and some sets of unfortunate fellow will come and take away one's hard earned income in a twinkle of an eye.

To those who did this, your days will not be long in the land of the living!!!

To Op, may God help you to quickly recover all your losses.

OP, thanking God on ur behalf...

OP, u can take this up, POS machine re registered and assigned.
Transferring from a POS will certainly hit a Nigerian Bank account, so be rest assured u re half way to getting those involved arrested by reporting the crime to ur bank nd police..

Once more, thanking God no injuries on you cous I ve seen a woman being pushed down while the vehicle was on motion..

Thanks y'all. I've gotten a police report and I'm sure going to dig into this matter.
I've been stressed over the past 2 days, I need to get a new phone ASAP.
I just pray the culprits are found and punished accordingly.

With so many scary stories involving yellow buses, I think it is safer to move with brt buses if they ply your route. It might be time consuming considering that you have to queue but on the long run, much safer. Sorry about what you went through Op, those criminals will still get what they deserve one day

I really feel for you brother. Mine happened in 2014. I was robbed of 100k. I thank God I didn't lose my life that day but I have learnt my lessons.

Always watch or observe any commercial bus before entering. Don't always be in a hurry to jump in. Always watch out for the only males passengers. If there are not females in a bus, better be careful

Also board buses from parks too. I know its not every route that has a park but always try to enter from the park if there is any

Avoid all those Vanagon buses as much as possible. Try LT, brt or even molue sef. Most one chance cases are usually with those Vanagon buses

Above all, always pray before you leave home or even when you are anywhere. Only God can look out for us

Hmmm, nawa o, they are now going around with POS? Na 2 have more than one bank accounts sure pass be that o, the one with your main savings should not have an ATM card linked to it, the one with money to keep body and soul together should be the one to have ATM card to access. #JustThinkingAloud undecided

The security in the country is messed up. The bank should be able to provide you with the account of the person that received the POS payment, it will be so easy to track them.

It's best to not leave plenty money in the account that has ATM. You can always do a transfer to it when it finishes. That's what most people do now. Even bank alert I delete jmmediately. Is it not one person that entered one chance which day and they started checking their phones for alert to know how much you have. By the time they just see my 3-digit account balance, no be small beating for wasting their time... grin

It's LadyF again grin grin grin

Have you reported to the Police?

Your bank should be able to verify what transactions happened on your card.

They should also be able to release information on the account holder of the POS machine.

Case solved in under one week and the perps tracked and bagged.

Some people use their hand to look for trouble.
One chance in Lagos is not news, I have seen people who will load their wallet with all their ATM cards, whether they need them or not.
So why not least learn to leave the cards at home and carry them only when you need to use it to collect money.
Also learn to get an account that doesn't have ATM facility so you can hide funds there.

OP, I hope this story you narrated here has also been relayed to the police (The Police is still useful to an extent, and might help them to even hasten a pending investigation). Also report this to your bank and find out if there're measures that can be taken to apprehend the criminals since it was done. through POS.

Advice to all in Lagos: Having two or more. account is advisable- One where you save majorly in and the ATM should Never be carried around, while the second account Should contain small amount for petty expenses with its ATM card enabled. So you can always transfer from your major account to the petty cash account occasionally as you deem fit.
In this way you might be able to reduce /minimize your loss in the case of any theft or robbery incidence.

PS: don't ignore the errors in my post
