How Abia State Government Turned Down My Logo Design, Be The Judge (pics)

The New Abia Logo was unveiled few days ago and I received the news with shock. I pursued this logo for over 2yrs and in the end another logo was chosen.

*August 2013*
There was a call/announcement for submission of prospective state emblems through the BCA (Broadcasting Cooperation of Abia State) radio. I visited BCA and was directed to submit my entry with the office of the Secretary to the State Government, then headed by Dr. Nkpa O. Nkpa. Mine was later chosen and I was assigned to work with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Chief. Nathan Harbour. After a number of corrections, insertions and modifications, Chief. Harbour introduced me to the then commissioner for Information, Dr.Eze Chikamnayo, who took special interest on delivering the emblem; further adjustments were made on the emblem. However, towards preparations for the 2015 elections all matters on the state emblem initiative vanished and this is a bit understandable given the demands of our electioneering in this part of the world.
With a new government in place, I drafted and sent several proposals and reminder on the emblem, in addition with an anthem & a flag. Incidentally, on October 1, 2015 the governor called for entries on a state emblem and anthem and I again submitted mine and followed up, constantly sending reminders to the governor's social media platforms. I also exchanged mails with the Chief Press Secretary C. N. Nwakodo on several occasions concerning the entry.

Disappointed? Maybe

I am a bit disappointed not that my entry missed out on being selected for the state emblem, but that my work in every way can challenge and best the current choice in criteria as quality, interpretation and order. I put in my best with logo standards like that of Lagos and Osun state. But I will let my fellow Nairalanders be the judge.

Dear Mods, help me take this news up..

Your version looks childish. An elephant tying loin cloth with cap looks comical to say the least.

you really tried. one thing that captures my attention most in your own logo is that Abia tower, followed by the Igbo cap however, the name Abia state Nigeria, without government, is not enough to give much legal attention to documents carrying such headings m remember that the logo will be made into "stamp" for official document purpose. to make the matter worse, the elephant have their hands on the Abia state pressing it downward when it should have been held up high.
the base lines show something like black white black against the green white green on the other one.

You would have tried something serene, yours look like a war logo
One elephant is OK and it shouldn't have been too prominent. All I see is too big elephant and Abia state shouldn't all be about elephant. You should have mildly capture every other thing.
This your emblem should be suitable for Abiriba and Ohafia war dance.

First of all, I'd like to commend you on your beautiful logo, despite not being picked, it reflects the hard work and commitment you put into it.

In comparison however, it looks quite busy, too animated, and more suitable as a coat of arms as against a state seal or emblem. If both were to be printed on an official document or podium, I'm sure you'd agree that the other one looks more appropriate especially as it captures the essence of your entire logo within the shield which was neatly positioned inside the ring.

The take away is that simplicity and clarity without losing the essence is key. Nevertheless your logo was a brilliant effort and I encourage you to keep improving. Good luck.

Was there an agreement between the govt and you. If not, u just have to rue your missed chance. With an agreement, you van claim for damages and compensation for the amount spent and work done by you.

Your logo is great, but just too heavy.

The other has no originality

The colours is an idea of Lagos States emblem and the stars are from the US air force emblem

wow! thanks everyone for your judgements and comments..... am starting to see from different angles......

However this wasnt how it looked initially...like I stated, I started with much simpler design but over the period I pushed for the logo, there were so much reverts but in all I tried not to make it look worse.....

However, I worked with them on several occasion to get it to that level..we did a lot of reverts together.

logos need to be plain, very cheap and easy for every primary school children to be able to draw and familiar with. graphics here are there is a no no. symbols is what matter not all those nonsense I am seeing.

The other logo is classier and more apt than yours ..but taking into cognizance the 2 years and plenty of money you might have spent chasing it , I think they should have given you the chance to revise your logo in line with thier expectation ..Don't worry though as a battle hardened entrepreneur my self I can assure you that of you don't give up after such upset the sky will be your limit ..Nice one

The new state logo captured everything.
Mostly the warm hand shake meaning good reception.

Yours is good oh but the 2 elephants with the igbo cap was just representing the igbo tradition.

BTW, 2 elephants too much. The 2 horses wey dey for Naija logo Don run finish.

Your Elephant no just try at all.. Be like say this Economy dey affect them. And na towel dem tie for waist like that? undecided

Your Logo is also too darn busy and not clean.

You didn't need the ABIA State in there. The Okpu Ichie on the Elephants was a nice idea though.

There are elements from your design I would have put into the approved design.. But if I had to pick one or the other, I believe the Government made the right choice.
