I am a woman and for the past four years i drive a manual car (ford) and its been ok. By the grace of GOD I have never had any cause to worry. Its very easy to avoid an accident with manual cars if you are good at changing gears and you will also enjoy a manual car when its raining.

#myopinionanyway
yes u sure know how to drive. esp when u pointed out how to maneuver and avoid accidents by changing gears. for eg quickly down shifting or putting ur car in neutral when trying to brake abruptly increases the effect of braking almost tripple.

manuals rock sha. autos are cool but jes dere

I learnt driving with a manual drive but not I drive an automatic. I really don't understand why someone would want the stress of driving a manual. Wait sef, I'm sure those supporting manual would also ask me to use a typewriter for my documents instead of a computer....why would I want to drive a manual? What a manual can do, an automatic can do better. Someone said it makes one more alert on the road but that's at the expense of what? Getting tired to work everyday? I hope op isn't an engineer that goes home tired after work everyday sha....
with thus your statement you clearly don't know how to drive manual . The only time u probably drove a manual was in driving school ( those clumsy teachers, that don't even know the tricks of up shifting or down shifting .).

I hope say the yam leg grin don disappear and you can now flip and bend over in bed grin .

I see no big deal in driving a manual even if the traffic is in China.

I dey try my best o.
I was just joking around with my comment grin, that doesn't mean driving an auto and manual is same in extreme traffic. I doubt bus drivers find it funny _ maybe that's why some of them are aggressive
Make we dey talk true sometimes. That's my problem with most manual drivers (in Nigeria), always acting like they are in some competition with auto drivers. Always feeling superior...all na driving mbok.

Though the last time I drove a friends' manual car, the pedals were sooo soft, I thought they would slip off my feet.... I guess the latest ones come 'that easy'.

As for me I am already used to a manual car and the day I drove an automatic car my left foot was busy looking for the clutch pedal. I tell you it was a really akward.

Exactly i have never had problems driving a manual car. My first car was one. So would my next if i see one i like! I drove that everyday to and fro work even with heavy traffic amd i never for one day complained or felt the need that i was having a problem wuth driving.

It's sad how lazy people have become. Driving a manual is now a taboo. Unbelievable.

I used to drive a manual audi 1.8 turbo, no car ever beat me on the road both intercity and long distance journey. Yeah, it was a manual.

I drove a manual Honda Eod to 2003 model, you need to feel the power and responsiveness of the car. The fuel consumption was wonderful. I sold her off in May 2016. The buyer has been very thankful.

All these people ranting about manual are either bad drivers or have a warped mentality of a manual being not a befitting car while automatic drive is the rave.

Manual transmission enhances control of the vehicle, and thus requires a higher level of foot-eye-hand-brain coordination. Failure to effectively acquire these skills will result in stress and dissatisfaction.

Its real fun tho....

So in your wisdom men drive better than women? Nonsense third degree! I have seen experienced crazy women drivers.... Who shift the stick like a toy..... Stop stereotyping women.... When most men were trekking Funmilayo Ransome Kuti bought and drove her car in Nigeria! Women are humans....that you think your wife and other women around you are inferior doesn't mean that our own women are second class humans like you view those around you!

Your comment only made me smile. Maybe because am trying to figure out the relevance to my comment.

I will buy an Auto car for my wife for convenience. Manual has its own stress especially in a traffic and hilly road.
If buying and driving a manual car makes you feel equal with men, please enjoy.
It's your money and life. Do whatever you like, non of anyone's business.

The only reason why I won't advise you to buy a manual transmission is because you are a lady . A manual driver is always smarter than an auto driver . I am not talking about learner manual driver .

As a lady your make up hand will turn muscular with manual transmission.

I love being in control of what the car does .I don't like automatic.

If you wanna buy a manual, buy it because you love manual cars. Not for cost or prestige (y'know that accolade that comes with being a female manual driver in Nigeria...lols)

Yes, it helped me be very calculative and focused but in the long run, I ended up with yam leg and a strained waist. I couldn't even bend or flip over in bed... grin

Lol @ d saying * yam leg*. Well i own a manual recently. My first ride, mot by choice tho. It was much cleaner and cheaper. I think is quite aiit., i bet it improves IQ as well cuz u have to calculate i think. Only disadvantage is traffic. Really terrible and i live in benin city. So to avoid yam leg/thigh strain. U should opt for automatic cuz lagos traffic is terrible.
Ama look out now if am growing yam leg now#lol, Thanks for d heads up.

I sold my kia rio manual and bought same type and colour automatic because of lagos traffic.

Do not buy a manual car in lagos, you will regret it in the short run.

Iam team manual any day as it gives me control. I have been driving a manual Toyota Corolla 2007 bought brand new since 2007 in Lagos. I once traveled with a friend driving hi own automatic camry and he was surprised that he could not out pace me in my manual toyota corolla.

Iam a big fan of Formula 1 and i doubt if Formula 1 cars are automatic. There must be a reason why they were not made automatic.

hahaha. The yam leg na joke o.

Though it gave me leg/thigh strains at first, it only gets better in the long run. I wonder why some people are claiming it's not 'stressful' in traffic, maybe we shouldn't use the word stressful, 'inconvenient' would stroke their 'driving egos' better...

Yea, it sharpens your driving IQ (whatever that means...lol).

Your views are very erroneous! What makes Gazzuzz almighty? You speak recklessly and myopically. So simply because he sold his manual transmission Kia others can't or don't use manual transmission in Lagos? If I may ask are all brt buses not kitted with manual transmission? Are all danfo not manual transmission? All LT buses are running on manual transmission! So what kind of jibber jabber are you spewing about manual transmission? Next time be sure that you know about what is being discussed before passing irritating opinions......yebo? Yebo is a Zulu word used for clarity or emphasis....

you realise that being matured also entails the kind of thoughts one has right? when you are being seen as good at what you do, you become an authority in that field and people begin to seek your expert opinion on issues relating to your area of expertise. in this forum, Gazzuz has proven times without number that he knows his job, different testimonies coming from people and even me, u can open one of my topics where I opened a thread on this. Give your advise based on your experince and points, no need hating. All I see in that your statement is hate and my brother you don't need it.

why are you comparing BRT buses, don't they have their own lanes? and besides is that not a hussle for the driver? what about Danfo? its also a hussle for the driver. i dont think that when you wanna hussle and you are not the one buying the bus, you have any power over the kind of transmittion your bus owner would buy. This is for personal use and has no bases for comparism more so, its a female that wants to use it.

Manual is good, less fuel consumption, less trouble, but a lot of stress as you know, there is no guarantee that you won't run into traffic in Lagos, some 5mins and some as long as 2hours. if you hit that kinda traffic in Apapa, you would blame yourself with that manual.

Most things that needs to be said have been said so it's left for u to make ur decision. I learned how to drive with manual before I started driving automatic.

I later got a manual and it was like going back to driving school. Sometimes when I don't clutch down well the car will just trip off in the middle of the road. I dreaded slowing down or traffic cuz that's just an embarrassment waiting to happen.

Guess what? It was a simple advice from my cousin after church service who happens to be a mechanic that helped me perfect it.He told me to always clutch down anytime I'm slowing down and since then I've been an expert driver.

Nowadays I don't really like driving auto cuz I don't feel in total control. When you grow up playing racing games or a fan of formula 1 and fast and furious you know changing sticks is next best thing to driving.

Sorry for the long epistle

I am about to get a car, and the option available to me is to get a manual car which is 2 million lesser or I go for the same car but the automatic version.
I am quite concerned because of the price of the car but my colleagues are advising me not to even think about the manual car because of traffic. I am of the opinion that I can learn how to drive the manual car and not get too stressed while driving.
Please I need advice from experienced drivers, is driving a manual car that terrible in Lagos?

If you are like me who encounters less than 10% of the regular traffic that Lagosians face driving to work, a manual transmission gear would be fine. I enjoy it as it gives me full control of the power of the vehicle. In the alternative, if you must go for an Automatic transmission gear, ask for one that has CVT.

More about CVT here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_variable_transmission

So it's not worth it at all shey?

I drive the same but with a manual transmission. In all since I bought the car new in 2014, I have not spent up to N100,000 in maintenance as I service every 3 months and a comprehensive service every 6 months.

Manual is stressful but truth be told, if you don't know how to drive manual car, then you're a learner. All the people ranting of manual this Auto that when there were less Auto cars those days in Lagos was there no traffic? even as a lil kid then Lagos was a hell traffic city compare to now that it's better. Minus the cost, some people prefer manual and it has to be a matter of choice and if you're a beginner please follow your heart. The stress of changing gear and all the clutch wahala, manual can be used even in the remote village with bad roads. You're not incapacitated, so use your brains to decide the kind of car you can afford and be able to manage and maintain...
