You know you are a real aviation geek :

when you can tell the make of an aircraft by just hearing the sound of the engines.

Feel free to add more.

I remember the year when I could tell the sound of the BAC 1-11...... It got banned after a crash tho

I can tell the sound of a Boeing 777 and a 747 when its going to land. The high pitch whistle sound (a sound different and unique from their normal cruise or take off sound) its their trade mark sound when they deploy landing gears, deploy their spoilers and turn down their engine close to stall speeds.

The Sound of C130 Hercules NAF troop carrier too very distinct deep throbbing droning sound from the turboprop fans.

Then is the Dash8 Q400 turbo prop fans of the Airk airlines. Very unique sound. Not as heavy as the C130's.

Open question:
Should the airlines in Nigeria merge in order to become financially stronger airlines?

Yes and after merging they can be listed in the Nigerian Stock Exchange

it might interest you to know that state governments used to send students abroad for pilot training on scholarship.
That's so true sir. I once cam across an article about a state in the north that sent more than 100 people abroad for training, an many opted out voluntarily. They gave flimsy excuse about loosing interest in the programme. I go so vex within myself_ was there no form of assessment for the benefactors before sending them off? I wish I had JUST one slot....one slot is all that is required.
Please do you know of any ongoing one for the south-western Nigeria especially Ogun state?

It (Ogun state) appeared on most social media as one of the top 5 states that grant scholarship to her indigenes. Upon investigations, I learnt the don't grant individual indigenes scholarship worth more then N5million. But. Even at that, it still boils down to "leg", which I don't have. It was so painful

Affirmative!
Cally air is owned by the Cross-river state government. Their technical partner is Dana air

Capital waste of tax payers and Cross River's revenue. Starting up, running and maintaining an airline is a capital intensive project. That Cally airline fate may be like Okada or Slok airline soon.
They should ask Lagos State Govt why they didn't own a state owned and funded airline company.

They do say "Plane crashed" due to an engine failure. Now using boeing 777 which has 2 engines to attached to the wings as an example, when plane is in motion, does the two engines work at the same time OR one will be in standby mode while one is working?

Secondly, IF two engines are working at the same time, does it make any sense saying plane crashed when two engines are working or are they saying the two engines stopped working at the same time?

Lastly, If it is only one engine working while one is in standby mode, if they notice an sign of engine failure, how many seconds will it take the second engine to start working when there is a fault detected on the first engine while in air.

Also is aviation fuel flammable? grin grin grin

Are there bulletproof planes grin grin grin

I see some planes' wings that at the end of the wings, they are bended vertically upward, does it really matter or it is just a form of "packaging"

Also, are private jets expensive than commercial jets

Pls, dont tell me to ask google ooo.. lol

1. Aviation fuel, like all fuels is flammable (it's combusted in an engine cheesy).

2. private jets are not usually more expensive than commercial, although t all depends on the manufacturer.

3. The wing tips are bent upward so as to reduce the drag caused by vortices/ vortexes. The pressure difference between the upper and lower side of a plane's wing causes a vortex, bending the wing tips cancels out this effect.

4. i doubt if there are bulletproof planes cry but i wish there were.

5. i don't know much about engine failures cos i've not experienced it cheesy , i think that's for boeing777pilot to answer but i do know that a plane can conveniently fly one just one engine. If one engine fails, i think its as easy as shutting down the engine.

i'm out, next time, google is your friend or get microsoft fsx grin

1. When an aircraft is in flight, all its engines are at work

2. When an engine shuts down, a jet may still have sufficient power in remaining engine(s) to land safely, however, there are cases where both engines shuts down/gets a fault (eg multiple catastrophic bird strikes to both engines). A lot comes into play when a crash happens.

3. While mid air, both engines works. However, when one shuts down, the crew members (pilot and co) get a notification on the onboard flight systems, and they immediately try to restart that shut down engine..

4. Aviation fuel like every other fuels are flammable.

5. I don't think so (except choppers).

6. Those bent up tips are called winglets and are to aid stability in fight and counter differences on airpressures/vortexes.

7. Depending on manufacturer, model and level of personalization a private jet may be more expensive or cheaper than a commercial jet.

@2- I once read on an article that a airplane can successfully land with one engine if the other engines gets shut down (one engine can generate enough thrust for safe landing), but here experience comes into play. Another article I read said an airplane with failed engines (all engines shut down), can still sustain gliding in the air for about 1000km (not sure of the figure though, if it is 100 or 1000) with the initially generated thrust, before it drops from the sky (stalling). Now the question is, is that true?
@ 3- I have been curious about something since I was a kid: all the engines in n airplane shuts down, can one get the engines back online and the airplane "picking up" without any form of taxi-ing? (I hope you understand the question)
And finally @ 4- I guess the question the other person was trying to ask if it is highly flammable like gasoline, or a little stubborn like diesel (some of us are curious. We know fuel must burn before an engine can get enough energy to power the propellers that generate thrust).
Now my own question :
A-is it true the name of commercial airplane's fuel is "kerosene"?
B- are they commercial airplane that run on diesel like some training airplane like DA 40 and DA-42 (NB- DA= Diamond Aircraft) ?
C- what is/ are the name of the impurities added to the fuel of aircrafts that prevent them from freezing in the air when temperature drops?
Sorry for the lenghty post

Hmmmmmnn. Thanks for the advice. I have be searching for "leg" ever since o. I have ransacked google sef for those I can lay my hands on, but it has not been productive yet. I joined LinkedIn and mailed a lot of pilots in Nigeria, but but 80% of them gave rude responses (saying stuffs like : go F- yourself) . I had to give some people my phone to help me review the content of what I wrote when I was suspecting the fault was from me. But they all assured me nothing was wrong with what I wrote or how I wrote it, it was just them that were rude and proud.
I also came across the contact of a big politician at the Federal level (name withheld) right before he had some allegations petitioned against him. His response was also rude and when I made mention of it to an uncle during a conversation (without even knowing they once attended the same tertiary institution), he told me that's how the man is. I am very sure its the person, he keeps on changing his whatsapp picture to current pictures right before the media publicises it. They prefer to help high-classed people like themselves, that don't need the help in the real sense of it -'cause they can afford it.
I have come across some encouraging ones too, that keep on rekindling the fire of my optimism. A big support I have come across, is Pilot Essien (though rotary wings). He is also a blogger. I came across his blog during my quest for the search of "leg". We have a good rapport, and his story is also inspirational
Anyway, I am still optimistic its gonna end in praises. Habakkuk 2:2-3 has been keeping me moving.
