I am not fine at all. I am kind of depressed. At 20 weeks, I did bloodwork and for the first time ever, my PCV was 26. I was extremely shocked. I have always had a PCV of 35/36. How?

Then I did a follow up test on Friday and my PCV has dropped to 10.4. I eat Ugu raw, I take lettuce, I eat unripe plantain 2 times a week. I also take my iron supplements once in a while. What am I doing wrong? People are telling me that I would need a blood infusion soon. Not feeling anaemic nor dizzy.

Your growing baby takes a lot from you and iron is one of the ones where she go collect am finish and leave you with empty bottle! Even when all the supplements and right foods are being taken religiously!

If your iron levels are low, yes though there is a possibility of getting a transfusion but it is not always neccessary. It all depends on how your birthing goes and how much blood you loose. You should have a blood test done as you go in for labour to check your levels and your doctor should advise you from there. You may also need one done after the birth to also check and make sure they dont discharge you and then you go and faint at home.

The option is to put in an IV Line as soon as you "check in" for delivery. That way if the need suddenly arrises, you they wont start looking for blood vessel that may have decided to dissappear.

Its not the most comfortable but better safe than sorry.

I have had 5 people attempt to get blood from me before, from trainee, to nurse, to matron to jnr doctor to consultant! My hand be like sieve when them finish!
I have also had another situation where i was having a procedure and them no gree find vein! I am like surely there is blood im there somewhere na! Had to get knocked out before the ivs were set for the drip. Its very annoying, even in a chilled out situation, so i wasnt ready to experiment in a possible emergency. So as i enter hospital na im i just submit my hand fo iv insertion.

Keep up with your ugwu and plantain and start taking your iron tablets regularly. And try not to worry.

Oh one more thing: Since you are not feeling any tiredness or dizzyness, you can go and redo the test, possibly at a different lab. No harm in double checking!

So today I had my doctor's appointment and it was quiet comprehensive. Had GBS test done and oda routine things. My labs done last week was out and he said I was slightly anemic ; reason being that for a long time I just stopped taking my prenatals *covering face* swallowing dat stuff was a big deal for me so I ditched it and felt eating will replace it. Well, I was told to resume taking it and wen I got to the pharmacy, I found this prenatal gummies OMG! The excitement on my face knew no bounds!

I'm sure dis will be the solution to all those dat av difficulty swallowing and terrible MS.

Secondly, this my new doc does not buy into my elective induction like I did for my son So I have to wait for labor and time contractions I totally feel like someone dat has not given birth b4 cos the first was a walk in the park . Well, wateva signs I start feelin, I will bring it here to my able support group

My dear, your walk in will work for you. He said cos of a new regulation about induction leadin to CS with certain complications and they re test running it frm d state I am.

He didn't prescribe dis particular one, jst said I shld gt any1 I'm comfortable with. I recently bought one 'gummy bear' multivite for my son and he so loves it so wen I saw gummies prenatal, I decided to give myself a 'treat' too...lol
