Wow, great topic.
My first pregnancy was a blast though i had little issues like morning sickness in the 1st trimester but nothing major; luckily my baby was born normal without too much stress, but men, labour was something else; i swore i would never go through that kind of pain and torture for anyone, lol, i am sure God must have been laughing out loud cos here i am, 16 weeks pregnant!

I look forward to giving birth without too much stress this time around. As an aside, i need advise urgently please. I am yet to start ante natal but i have done a scan to determine if my baby is okay and it is. I am presently on pregnacare plus, the one with folic acid and omega h3, i also use milk calcium. Do i need to add anyother drug? I will start my ante natal classes later this month or early next month, thanks.

@ agiboma, three scans and nothing, so I decided just to leave it be, when he/she come I'll see. To those that had miscarriages and still birth, I feel your pain,I've never been there, but I saw my mum go thru the same twice, the last one was so hellish, she had to go thru a c-section but unfortunately, the baby still didn't make it, almost lost her too, thank God, she's ok now, my prayer is that God gives you the strength to carry on, it has a way of affecting the family generally, but please do be strong, God bless us all

I just love any topic related to pregnancy grin I'm in my 37th week and so eagerly waiting. My pregnancy has been so blessed, no morning sickness
Just had a minor issue ard my 22nd week were I was spotting and I went to the hospital. After a scan, they recommended that I do a cerclage (stitch on cervix for incompetent cervix) as a result of too short cerclage. This came with one week of bed rest (serious prison)

Anyways cerclage was taken out this week as baby is term and free to come.

Soooo ready to receive my son (1st time mom).

It's soooo exciting

My heart goes out to families that have gone through a lot, I pray the good lord who is always faithful will bring you more bundles of joy

Rockamania:

My wife was in her seventh month of pregnancy when suddenly one night she woke up and alas there was fluid all over the bed. i was scared to the bone cos i've never seen such a sight in my whole life and i don't pray to see such again. i immediately rushed her to a hospital nearby where she uses for antenatal. there the doctor on duty said she had premature rupture of the membrane. they administered Ergometrine in a bid to stop the bleeding little did they know that it worsen the situation cos the baby died in her womb hours later without their notice. at dawn i observed that no test or scan had been carried out and i called the medical director's attention to it, all he could do was to give me a referral letter when he knew he was not a specialist. i later got to a specialist doctor who confirmed the baby dead after series of test and scan and he opted for evacuation. it was really a sad scenario.

my point however is that getting pregnancy tips is one thing while getting a qualified doctor who is ready to work is another most especially when things don't go as planned. the doctors i met that night knew she has a contraction and they would have just carried out basic delivery methods possible but they didn't blaming it on lack of incubator and other flimsy excuses
Sorry for your loss sir but you need to stop blaming that Doctor and calling him incompetent. Your wife had pprom. I believe that doctor did his best based on what was available.

Your wife was 7months pregnant, that's about 30weeks. You want him to initiate basic delievery methods, after that, what next? Without an incubator or NICU? The age of fetal viability in nigeria is 28 weeks, even at that some teaching hospitals have a problem keeping alive a baby born at 30weeks talkless of a small private hospital. You say he didn't do any tests , scan etc. What tests do you want him to do? If he doesn't have a scanning machine should he manufacture one by magic?

It was very late at night. I believe the doctor gave the basic first aid to keep your wife and the baby, pending transfer of your wife to a specialist center. That doesn't make him incompetent or unqualified. What happened is unfortunate, such things happen. but its definitely not the doctors fault.

So so sorry for your loss, please take heart and stay strong. Your story reminded me of a family friend here in Australia who had a similar experience to yours. I could not believe it when the Ambulance people informed her that she had to be AIR-LIFTED to the nearest General hospital that her case is quite urgent (driving would mean she would get to the hospital 5 hours later and that was considered too risky for the baby). That very day within an hour she was delivered of the baby otherwise the baby would have died. I dont understand why your doctors did not see that your wife's case is an urgent one and that delivering the baby should be the first step. May the Lord comfort you and your family, and answer your prayer for more children IJN.
I
sister, you want her doctor to deliever the 30week old fetus, put in a basket or food flask? You don't understand  why his doctor did not see that his wife's case is an urgent one and that delivering the baby should be the first step? . No offense intended but You're not supposed to understand, that's why people spend over 10 years in medical education to understand what to do based on different situations and circumstances.

@ Maran you should start the antenatal ASAP, to ensure you and baby are receiving all the neccessary care, but you seem to be doing all the things you need to do to promote a healthy pregnancy congrats

@ diamondlove you should start a pregnancy vitamin that is enriched with Iron and folic acid, also try to get as much sleep as you can, making a baby is hard work on the body, big congrats on your pregnancy, Also start your antenatal ASAP also, happy and healthy 40 weeks to you

I am in my 27th week with my second child.
First pregnancy was a good one with normal birth. Got treated for malaria 2ice and got treated for thypoid as a result of recurring headaches.
This 2nd pregnancy has been stressfree too except for recurring headaches. i have not discussed with my doc yet but i hope to during my ANC visit next week.

Re: Pregnancy Are You Pregnant Or Going Through A High Risk Pregnancy,,lets Talk by maran1983(f): 9:27am On Mar 09, 2012
Sweettweet, i had the same horrible headaches in my first pregnancy. Initially, the doctor thought it was as a result of high bp but we checked repeatedly and it wasn't. I never took drugs cos i was afraud but i tried to rest alot and miraculously, it stopped by itself. Infact, i did not notice when it eventually stopped cos i had somehow blocked my mind to the terrible pain.

Diamondlove, do not stress yourself over your inability to sleep. I had that experience with my first and second pregnancies. Infact, these days once i wake up i use the long stretch of night ahead of me to pray for a safe and successful pregnancy and delivery, maybe you sholud try that; at least put the sleeplessness to good use, cheers.

wow you super mommy, you know i thought about us discussing good hospitals around the country, but the thing is that i dont want it to become a thread where people come to advertise that's my only fear, i dont want us to loose sight of the reason for the thread which is to support each other. I would eventually like to get a list of good maternity hospitals and pediatric hospitals with NNICU units for the babies born before term, also clinics that do scanning and assist in monitoring of high risk pregnancies. By g-d grace it will formulate soon enough

Agiboma you did a wonderful thing starting this thread, am 10 weeks pregnant expecting my first child, I noticed lately that ave been very very grumpy, is that also part of my hormones runing wild or its all in my head? pregnacare makes me throw up, and is it normal to sometimes feel a sharp pressure like pain inside my vagina (sorry). Is this normal?

Well, different strokes for different folks, I find it impossible to sleep without wearing one, plus it helps pack and ease the heaviness, have you tried rubbing some ointment on it?
Re: Pregnancy Are You Pregnant Or Going Through A High Risk Pregnancy,,lets Talk by agiboma(f): 9:44am On Mar 09, 2012
@diamondlove yes i think it is the excitment and anticipation of becomming a mother, the most beautiful feeling and best title any woman can hold IMO, yes all theose symtoms you described are normal for early pregnancy, Im afraid the breast stuff will last pretty much all first trimester, it gets better secound trimester, then gets bad again third trimester, lol enjoy the joys of pregnancy mommy smiley, the period pain you feel is the baby growing and developing in your womb

@sweettweet well headaches are normal in some women, but it can be the sign of a serious complication in others, please have your doctor check your bp and do a urine test on you to eliminate any complication. I had sever headaches from 11 weeks of pregnancy with my soon, i mean they hurt so bad i thought i was having a stroke shocked, i later developed pre-eclamsia at 19 weeks and spent a few moths in the hospital until i delivered my son.

@janita the best thing is to have the fibroids removed prior to pregnancy if that did not happen the best thing is regular scans to see if the fibroid is interfearing with the pregnancy.

People keep telling me not to lie on my back, that my child might develop a cross eye because of that, but sometimes, my back hurts and I just want to lie on it, is it really true that lying onur back makes ur child cross eyed?

@duduagirl the only thing with lying on the back is that when you are heavily pregnant the weight of the baby can press on the "vagus" nerve which slows down the heart rate, so its dangerous for the mother, so try sleeping on your side.

Diamondlove, i feel you on wearing a bra all night. As it is presently, i cannot even sleep with clothes on, i just throw a wrapper or d duvet across my body.
Dudugirl01, the doctor said the best position is lying on the left side, he listed a number of benefits i cannot readily remember now but he did say it was good for the kidneys and some other vital organs.
