This period being called a MISER, STINGY CREATURE ..., should be accepted as a COMPLIMENT.

If you spend anyhow, you go see anyhow.

Though this doesn't mean nobody is blowing anymore because of recession.

Bone dat thing. Naija peeps still go de celebrate. I still see parties bn held here n thr. God de everly provide even Buhari is jst a challenge but cnt pose an obstacle. But come to tink of it oo, Buhari has truly become an obstacle in d progess of Nigerians. Yeye man of a president. Like I said, Nigerians r smart, hardworking n will always find a away out.
Dejiih001:
In view of the present economic situation around the world and Nigeria in particular , adequate cautions must be taking by us all.

Be prepared to let go of some things and spend only when absolutely necessary. If you have saved money, try not to touch it quickly.

Avoid capital projects until you are certain of replenishing your bank accounts.

Avoid social travels that bring no added income.
If attending a burial, wedding, naming ceremony, marriage anniversary will eat into your savings, avoid them. You would be called names, accept the name calling but understand that these same people will call you worse names if you have to borrow from them to feed your family.

Reduce your responsibilities. Your first duty is to your family. If you don't provide for them, others will rarely do so.

Talk to your friends who are working not to bother asking you for favours.

Avoid those who ask you in advance what you are going to get for them on their birthdays or Valentine day. They tell you things are hard but refuse to agree that things are hard for you too.

Cut your pants according to your cloth. If you think that staying in Lekki will take more than half of your savings, move to Otta.

The downfall of a man is not the end of his life. Help your friends to start cutting costs by cutting costs yourself. Don't spend thousands to celebrate your birthday because you will be putting pressure on them to celebrate theirs.

If they call and ask how your birthday is going to be, tell them "Ground no level". Tell them you hope things will improve next year.

Do not be pushed into unnecessary spending for any reason.

Even if you have the money to spend, spend on things that can uplift your life and the life of others.

People have spent millions on their wedding, only to live unhappily thereafter.

People have spent millions on their birthdays, only to be forgotten a few month after.

Most importantly understand that happiness does not come from vanity.

There are hundreds of people out there that ready to rip you off even those you might not imagine.

When people stop spending recession bites harder when they start spending recession stops and growth starts.

The money is there but those who have are neither spending nor investing. That is the root cause of recession. Even the FG who has budgtted 6 trillion. What have they spent? When the FG is not releasing, and the rich are not spending you are bound to have recession.

It has very little to do with oil price. FG should know better.

The current Finance Ministry is desperate to cut and cut. That is what is sparking recession! The minister also shows a wrong body language. That fuels it. Dont get me wrong. She is a good hand but I think she will do a great job in another ministry (such as Budget & Planning or Police Affairs).

Nigerians have loads of dollars in the dorm accounts and in foreign accounts. That is more than what oil is currently fetching. You need to be savvy economically to unleash those idle funds to foster growth.

The current administration is looking in the wrong direction for answers. They should find ways to inspire confidence.

When Hiddink took over at Chelsea last season, they started winning again. It was the same team that was losing under Jose. Re-shuffle your ministers and get one or two who can greatly inspire CONFIDENCE.

Many are mad, but few are roaming. The Op has passed a message to the average Nigerian. It is up to you to accept or reject it. You could spend all your life's earnings for all I care. Idiot, who looks at everything with a political lens. I just don't know what the op's submission has got to do with APC and PDP. You wailers should grow up and stop pouring and transferring your aggressions on innocent Nigerians for sending your corruption hero back to his village. Lopsided distribution of wealth is not only a Nigerian problem. In 2014, it was discovered that 1% richest inhabitants of the earth control 48% of the world's wealth distribution. While 99% of the world population shared 52% of wealth or world GDP.

And guess what, the 1% are getting richer, while the 99% are getting poorer that it was projected by end of 2016, the world's 1% richest population will be controlling 50% of the world's wealth. So as we speak, if this trend continues as more and more people are becoming billionaires every year, according to Forbes, 99% of the world will continue getting poorer. There are currently 2,500 certified billionaires in the world. Dollar billionaires please

As an addendum, Amancio Ortega, the world's biggest fashion retailer has unseated Bill Gates as the richest man in the world...

I think advising people to spend more in an import dependent economy is no way to boost it.

Your point is hopelessly misplaced. The OP did well on his point, I can see they're cerafully thought through. However, you have blasphemed. The spending usually advised for period like this is expected on the side of government, multinational companies, etc. Less, is expected of the poor masses as regards spending. Even the government, companies and NGOs have advised on cost cutting economics for the citizenry. Or didn't you just read Femi Adesina say his salary was slashed by one-third and he goes without food? So which government do you want to represent here?
Be guided.
