It is a cessation of life that is necessary for the continued proliferation of our species. There is no mystery to be unravelled here. What we are talking about is whether anything comes after, and the nature of proof that would make a doubter stop doubting. Call me closed-minded but the scientific method CANNOT be the way to go about this.

We all love and appreciate futuristic thinking, but the line has to get drawn at a point lest it becomes more ridiculous than the religious notions that ''we'' so love to deride. Even Kardashev the astronomer had to stop at Class III when he was devising his famous scale of civilization. Some things will just not happen regardless of how tantalizing they sound.
