Ofcourse I know what an NDA is, but do you mean those people hired you without going through your portfolio? Whay kind of stack overflow is this??
Well, i send screenshots of my previous work. In most cases you dont even need to see previous work at a higher level. I win jobs because i can intelligently analyze the solution to the client. If i met you right now and we spoke for 5-10 mins, i can easily rate your skill level. At that level thats the way jobs are done mostly. Rarely do you see people ask to see what you have done before. They do that for people who they are not confident about their ability to handle the job.

What he created wont scale. I doubt it can handle up to 100 users. Latency would also be very high. You may not get messages within secounds like whatsapp and other chat app. The wahala of establishing http connections an closing them is another overhead. Its a good attempt but not how such apps are built.

Do you expect beginners to understand the concepts of Web-sockets without first using AJAX calls?, remember tutorials are meant to teach basics. Maybe you want him to build slack on Nairaland?

When you keep commenting here and dhtml18 is busy coding, and when he posts it you will know who the real pro is. LOL grin grin grin grin
Notice he hasn't posted in 10 minutes since I put that question.
Let him win na. According to his own way of thinking. Best programmers are selected in court of public opinion. LOL. If you need the code i will send it to you but aside that i am busy on a job.

Bro you're wrong...

Seun and dhtml need to say if they're interested in your stuff or not... And set deadline if they accept...

You said you haven't tried dhtml project so why condemning it by the description??

Bro if your programmer coding a website, and you know there is <iframe> in html to embed pages in pages, whye the fvck would you search for dhtml18 version of this shit that comes default on just about any browser, even Internet Explorer has this.

Here you come again...
Stop assuming stuff bro..

He gave us a clue and it really helped.

He is not a perfect programmer. You can correct him if you think he's wrong...
.
I challenge you to create a thread and teach us how to create a app like whatsapp..

Are going to do it I willing to learn since dhtml got it wrong (as you said)...

The last time I checked, dhtml did not force you to use his project...

And he never said he created it for us to use or to over shadow iframe...

You can politely ask him why he created it...

We have already decided this. Read the thread. @dhtml18 refused to engage me in a question and answer. Someone else took his place and i eventually showed that guy who was boss. Mind you the guy was not even a programmer but felt like helping @dhtml18 out. The question you even asked us to do is very very below my level. I wrote those kind of applications in 2004, just for emphasis no one is doing SE again.

I am very busy multi-tasking several jobs at the same time, no-time-to-check-time mode. Anyone that wants a competition or drag anything with me will have to wait.
For now, you guys should catch your fun. . . . . .over and out

By the way, I am glad to see some activity on this board after such a long time.

By SE do you mean JavaSE? or? Well, I dont think Java is dead, android still running off it, not to mension the billions of enterprizes around the world?

Java is not dead. It will remain relevant for many years too come. And yes SE is the Standard Edition(Desktop Java). Its dead. Sun and then Oracle have tried to revive it over the years but the issue is web and now mobile is more appealing. So dont waste your time on SE. You many never get too many jobs for developing desktop java apps.

A young boy went to meet a lion in the zoo. The following conversation ensued:
Boy: Mr Lion can you prove to me that you are really a Lion.
Lion walks round its cage and growls then says
Lion: I dont need to prove a point. But if you still want to be sure, just open the cage.

You mean the GUI side by your take? Because things like ArrayList etc are also part of java SE

ArrayList is not part of SE but part of the Java Language SDK. There is a difference.
SE is the desktop environment.
ME is the mobile environment(practically dead now)
EE is the enterprise/web environment
the SDK is a set of classes(libraries) bundled with the environments. It differs in each environment. In some environment the class may just be a small lightweight(few methods) version of the original version in other versions.

Scalability is not the focal point of a basic tutorial, but knowledge of basic concepts and work-arounds. You are correct about the scalability of what he built, but remember it was done out of a tutorial on a professional level one should ideally use web-sockets but it depends on purpose, for a simple live chat system, the program may survive but for a group chat system, it will fail many times if there are not enough server resources or it may timeout. But still it was just tutorial and no one cares.

And jeez, not everyone still uses MySql when there is Redis and co.

I also teach people too(In the real sense). You dont start up teaching people the wrong way of solving a problem, even if you do you need to lay emphasis that this is the wrong way of going about it. No one uses a database to create a chat application except they are using it for authenticating users. Creating a mysql backed chat is actually the wrong way of teaching chat concepts. You start them up with a tcp based client-server example or something....
