Al-Anfal Verse No:73

And those who disbelieve are allies to one another, (and) if you (Muslims of the whole world collectively) do not do so (i.e. become allies, as one united block with one Khalifah - chief Muslim ruler for the whole Muslim world to make victorious Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism), there will be Fitnah (wars, battles, polytheism, etc.) and oppression on earth, and a great mischief and corruption (appearance of polytheism)

He it is Who has revealed the Book to you; some of its verses are decisive, they are the basis of the Book, and others are allegorical; then as for those in whose hearts there is perversity they follow the part of it which is allegorical, seeking to mislead and seeking to give it (their own) interpretation. but none knows its interpretation except Allah. And those who are firmly rooted in knowledge say: We believe in it, it is all from our Lord; and none do mind except those having understanding. (Al-imraan verse 7)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade when he said, “If anything happens to you, do not say, ‘If only I had done such and such, then such and such would have happened.’ Say instead, ‘Qaddar Allaah wa maa sha’a kaan (Allaah decreed and what He wills happens), for ‘If only’ opens the door to the Shaytaan”, i.e., it makes you vulnerable to grief and fear, which is harmful to you and is of no benefit. Know that whatever befalls you, you could not have avoided, and whatever does not happen to you, you could not have made it happen to you, as

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“No calamity befalls, but by the Leave [i.e. Decision and Qadar (Divine Preordainments)] of Allaah, and whosoever believes in Allaah, He guides his heart” [al-Taghaabun 64:11]

The great scholar Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah) gave some amazing and life-changing advice for the believer:
“A friend will not (literally) share your struggles, and a loved one cannot physically take away your pain, and a close one will not stay up the night on your behalf…so look after yourself, protect it, nurture it…and don’t give life’s events more than what they are really worth…Be certain that when you break no one will heal you except you, and when you are defeated no one will give you victory except your determination…your ability to stand up again and carry on is your responsibility…Do not look for your self worth in the eyes of people; look for your worth from within your conscious…if your conscious is at peace then you will ascend high…and if you truly know yourself then what is said about you won’t harm you.
Do not carry the worries of this life… because this is for Allah…and do not carry the worries of sustenance because it is from Allah…and do not carry the anxiety for the future because it is in the Hands of Allah..
Carry one thing: How to Please Allah. Because if you please Him, He Pleases you, fulfils you and enriches you. Do not weep from a life that made your heart weep…just say “oh Allah…compensate me with good in this life and the hereafter”.
Sadness departs with a sajdah…happiness comes with a sincere du’a…Allah Does Not forget the good you do…nor Does He Forget the good you did to others and the pain you relieved them from…Nor Will He Forget the eye which was about to cry but you made it laugh..
Live your life with this principle: Be good even if you don’t receive good…not because of other’s sake but because Allah Loves the good doers”.
Subhanallah!

Ashoora is expected to be on Tuesday, 9th of October 2016. We are recommended to fast a day before it or after it as well, but if a person can fast both before and after then it is better. The more one fasts in Muharram, the better.

Additionally, if one fast these three days with the intention of fasting Ashoora and the three sunnah fasts of the month, then a person can have the reward of fasting the three days without decreasing the rewards of fasting Ashoora

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162.
He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: “Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will keep his face seventy years’ distance from Hell,” (al-Nasaa’i, 2247; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Nasaa’i, 2121).

Wa alaykum salam
Even though I'll want my more knowledgeable brothers and sisters to take the lead on this one, let me offer the little I can. Hopefully, they'll be here to give a much more detailed explanation to you.
Firstly, I commend your determination for wanting to start observing tahajjud for it is a truly meritorious act of worship. Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) said, “The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.”[Muslim]
The prayer can be performed at any part of the night but it is more preferable to observe it in the last third portion of the night. It is important to make the intention of performing the prayer before going to sleep. If you oversleep and forget to wake up in time, do not feel discouraged or demoralised. There's this hadith of Abu ad-Darda' where he quoted the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as saying: "Whoever goes to his bed with the intention of getting up and praying during the night, but, being overcome by sleep, fails to do that, he will have recorded for him what he has intended, and his sleep will be reckoned as a charity (an act of mercy) for him from his Lord."

Once you get up, wipe your face, clean your teeth (preferable use a siwaak) and then proceed to make wudhu. It is recommended to also wake up one's family. As far as I know, there isn't a specific amount of rakahs that can be performed. The rakahs are performed in pairs (i.e. sets of two). It is recommended to begin with two quick rakahs. Then you can pray whatever number of rakahs you are capable of.

After finishing this, you may make whatever supplication to Allah. Put in mind that this is the most ideal time to seek forgiveness of your sins. Narrated by Abu Huraira (RadhiyalLahu anhu): Allah’s Apostle (Peace be upon him) said, “Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?”.

N.B: Once you're getting sleepy while performing the prayer, then you may proceed to go back to sleep. This is due to the hadith narrated by A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) as she quoted Allah’s Messenger as saying: “When one of you gets up during the night for prayer and his Qur’anic recital gets mixed up to the extent that he does not know what he says, he should lie down."

May Allah guide you and may He strengthen your iman.

JazakAllaah khaira for this!! But there is a maximum number of pairs you can do, and it is 4(I.e 8 raka'aat), then you can do your witr......

The truth is I am lazy to type, yeah I am a very lazy person when it comes to typing so read more on witr here https://islamqa.info/en/46544

Pls note that longer recitation is superior to more rak'aat yani just two raka'atain could be superior to 8 raka'aat if the recitation of the two is longer compared to the 8 raka'aat combined.

You can hold the mushaf on your hand if you've not memorized the Qur'an enough to make long recitations, just make sure your right hand is placed on your left...

But you can as well memorize sura al-waki'ah, al-jinn, al-qiyaama, an-naba, an-naazi'aat....

Those five combined should give you a long recitation, such that only two raka'atain will be sufficient, plus there are easy to memorize if you are dedicated and they have short aayaat such that taking 3 aayaat per day will do a great job....

^^ I forgot about the timing aspect, If i am to calculate the third part of the night I will use the shareeah time for night, so when does the night starts? Allaah says;

“You may eat and drink until the white thread (of light) becomes distinguishable from the dark thread at dawn. Then, you shall fast until night.”{Qur'an 2:187}

According to the shareeah we break our fast at magrib, Allaah says we should fast till night time implying night according to shareeah is magrib time, so for instance if you pray magrib by 7pm to get the 3rd part of the night count the number of hours you have between magrib and fajr, let's say fajr is 6am, so between 7pm to 6am we have 11hours, multiply 11hours by 2/3 that will give 7hours 20mins, so count 7hours 20mins from 7pm, that will fall on 2:20am thus the 3rd part of the night is from 2:20am to 6am so you can wake up anytime in between that time frame and do your tahajjud, if you can do it for 1hour, fine and good if you can do it for all the 3hrs 40mins fine and good.

You can tell me when your magrib and fajr start let me calculate for you..

after calculating it falls exactly between this time frame 2:08am to 5:20am.

note: as the time changes the calculation will change, so you'll need to learn the calculation, as you see, my hypothetical night is longer than yours, so whenever the night changes, the time frame will change.

The intention is like any other act of worship, just intend in your heart before sleeping that you want do tahajjud and set an alarm for 3am(say), so if it turns out you didn't wake up(unintentionally) till fajr, you still have the reward for someone who did tahajjud Insha Allaah.

well brothers and sisters in Islam, In Sha Allaah tomorrow which is the 11th of Muharram, 1438(13th of October, 2016) is also a Thursday.

As we all know that it has been reported in various ahadith that the noblest of all prophet Abu-Qasim (PBUH) is always keen to fasting on this day.

In other to promote and elevate his Sunnah, I make it an obligation on myself to remind you of this magnificent act of worship and I hope you also indulge yourselves in this heart-purifying Sunnah.

Salaam...

Honestly didn't think I could survive it especially as Ashoora fell on my clinical day and everyone kept saying I shouldn't fast or I would faint in the operating room, but alhamdulliah I survived.
