The North is the bedrock of Nigeria's underdevelopment.

The North have the highest illiteracy head count, the highest poverty head count, the highest birth rate, highest polio and other communicable diseases that can be prevented via vaccinations, proper education and enlightenment which they vehemently refused.
The North is why we are still where we are today as a country. The Northern Muslim is so backward that sometimes i wonder if Muslim as practiced in other parts of the world have versions,of which that of Northern Nigeria has refused to adapt with modern civilization.

Sule my Mai guard has four wives in the village with 32 children and earns just 18 thousand naira as salary, apart from the little stipends he makes from Shoe cobbling.... these guys are insane.

It will take another fifty years for the North to catch up with the South in education if only they will agree to take the western way of life fused into theirs.

The Northern leaders should free the North from deliberate enslavement before this could happen else they continue to live the way they are.

You spoke well, what pains me more is that most Moslems, Northerners are die hard followers of the Prophets, forgetting that these prophets were human and never perfect just like any human can be,let's always try to embrace the truth, its not all their ways of life we pick up.

Hmmmm!

His reason cited for the age pegging at 18 is base on recession when I thought he is going to talk about the negative effects it has on the naive girl

He also said reproductive health issue.

He must pick his words with discretion due to his elevated office.

Some of you here are calling for the emir's head because of poor information. He married an 18 year old Adamawa princess. 18 isn't underage. And more over, she is in the UK for her first degree.

I have asked myself this question a number of times, "is the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria truly supreme in Nigeria? I believe it is functional and supreme in the south but in the north it is so obvious that something else is supreme or else sanusi won't be writing this, all the same good development, if they hear it!

Did you read here or you were just being selective?

He said the ‘’time had come when the Muslim community in Nigeria should live by the reality of economic recession and consequences of early marriage.

There are over 150,000 girls from the east in baby factories, over 2.5 million teenage prostitutes from the east and they are christians, what manner of religion and region do they subscribe and come from. The other day a 14 year teen became a celeb because she was beaten for having sex. Ojukwu started bleeping his wife when she was a teen, genevieve had a daughter at 16. This hypocrites think only muslims marry teen.

The difference is that these acts are not encouraged by southerners, they are condemned but you northern Muslims see nothing wrong in marrying an underage girl, to you guys it is not a crime. Another mistake pple often make is equating sex with marriage both are very different, marriage comes with a lot more responsibilities which underage girls cannot handle. Now I'm not saying underage sex is appropriate but it can never be equated to marriage.

missus I am a southerner, no female in my lineage got married before the age of 24. It is their culture in the north so let them be. The same young girls down here in the south have been bleeping without getting married except we wanna be economical with the truth.

Looking through the comments here, hmmmm most Nigerians are far from reality, and our supposed redemption is just gonna b a mirage if we continue with this negative mindset. Just to understand and agree, people have started spinning the emir's assertion by using tribal and myopic view. I weep for nigeria

We can't let them be because it is not right and the Nigerian constitution is also against underage marriage. Also if you read my post well, I don't disagree with you that underage girls have sex in the south but like I said you can't equate sex with marriage, they are 2 very different things (I am not supporting underage sex) but marriage comes with a lot more responsibilities that underage girls can't handle and can cause emotional damage to them. A 12, 13,14....... year old child is still a child that still needs a lot of guidance, she is not old enough to have her own child let alone raise her own child, become a mother and a wife, that's just wrong.

But you are supporting them on underage marriage. If you didn't care you would not have had an opinion on the issue cos it does not matter to you.
Anyway, that's besides the point, my point is that underage marriage is wrong no matter how you want to paint it, nothing can ever make it right.

Speaking against this ill in the northern community is a step in the right direction. Hope other leaders in the region follow suit and a law backing it is formulated.
