The fact is that despite all her problems, Nigeria is developing, and gradually becoming a modern, 21st century nation. At the rate we're going, this country will look very different in the next 20 to 30 years.
Isn't that too far? I thought your prediction will be something like 10 to 20 years

Bro with hunger strike, I see people buying cars and building houses everyday I was around sweet sensation on Sunday, you need to see customers so many there weren't any seat available. Then I ask myself with all this said hunger, how do people cope by spending so much? why aren't they saving all.ths money to buy food stuff at home. There is hardship yes,but people still spending like no tomorrow.
Asin constructions are going on and people are still spending money. Basic amenities for the family such as food & fuel for gen/car is highly affordable as people still eat an drive their cars.

This single issue is a major impediment. Reminds me how GEJ played politics with the Lagos Metro Rail Red Line.

Investors were ready with over 1 billion dollars to invest for the construction of the Red Line from Lagos to Ogun state, but GEJ refused to approve the Iddo station right off way which frustrated the investors till they eventually gave up...

Funny enough, Lagos state started this Metro Rail dream over 30 years ago, they broke ground and stationed heavy equipment in Yaba and even paid millions of dollars which the state lost after the FG refused to guarantee the loan and forex for the projects and this was done by the same PMB as the head of state.

Same way OBJ frustrated Tinubu's 271MW IPP which was the 1st IPP in Nigeria. Imagine Lagos state today without FG's bad bele, lack of vision and foresight and crass tribalism. I see many more Metro rail and fully developed rail system in Lagos state without that shameful and anti progress intervention by the FG 30 years ago and even Lagos state with many more IPPs today if not for the same shortsighted FG bad bele and frustration.

The only silver lining is the fact that Lagos state did not give up on their Metro rail dream, they just picked the right time to dust off their plans and resume work on the same project 30 years later..

Lagos state is not short of good and visionary leaders, the problem is always the FG.

That's the real money maker: projected to ferry over 2 million passengers (N200-N500m) or more, a day.

This country will never progress until we change all of them 1950/1960s laws; from power to rail, procurement, and e.t.c. -- phewww!

I think Ogun State signed a rail agreement with the Chinese. Trust Fashola and Amechi will clear the blockage and allow the project to go through.

[quote author=morbeta post=50485271]In as much as we are developing gradually, we must also build that maintenance culture mentality too. That is the major problem associated with infastructural development in Nigeria.

That is d true one there ,one of our biggest problem in this country is poor maintenance we keep yearning for developments but the already constructed ones are getting dilapidated under our very watchful eyes .

Can you share with us how the:

a) 3 Senators
b) 10 Representatives

from Lagos state in NASS dealt with this alleged federal impediment at the legislative level?
Assuming that your story is not false, GEJ would still be a venerable Saint compared to Buhari who cancelled Jakande's metro line in 1984 after jailing the poor man and paying breach of contract fines in a depressed economy.
As for Tinubu and Obasanjo on Enron barge scandal, they were simply playing politics with their foolish fellow citizens. Are they not waving their APC broom together now?
Open up to the reality, bro.
Don't let yourself be deceived any longer.

1. The story is not false. GEJ even stalled giving the guarantee on the world bank loan at a stage in this current project during the Fashola regime. But I trust as a GEJ blind desciple, google is not your friend http://www.nigerianeye.com/2012/11/federal-govt-stopped-world-bank-from.html
2. For someone to see GEJ as a venerable saint opens up another dimension of corruption. Is yours a spiritual side? wink

I think we are getting the awareness on need for maintenance and will get that right too. We did not understand that there is money to be made in maintenance before now. A lot of businesses are created in the maintenance value-chain

Do you mind explaining how the same World Bank loan that was said to have been blocked finally got spent by the same Fashola?

you should say lagos is developing instead and not nigeria - lagos is a country on it own
You need to travel around Nigeria a bit more. There are many parts of the country witnessing genuine infrastructural development. A few years ago, places like Uyo, Enugu, Calabar, Akure, Awka, Ilorin, Asaba, Minna, Warri and co were neglected backwaters with very little on ground. Today the story is very different in those places.

Some state governments have just decided to carry their states to the next level no matter what. This is the way to go. Others need to follow for the sake of our citizens. The most effective projects are those that will impact on the lives of all citizens and the common man.
Electricity, Roads, Transportation, Security and emergency services, Public Schools and possible free education at primary and secondary school level, Primary health care.
projects like airports, 5 star hotels and government specialist hospitals will only provide some employment for people if well structured.

To add to your post, hence the clamor for national restructuring. Nigeria, as presently administered is like a motorcade. In a motorcade every car must move at the designated speed irrespective of the amount of horsepower under the hood! The center(i.e the FG) is overburdened and the states are increasingly heavily dependent on it.

I align with the position that the 6 geo-political zones should form the basis for the restructuring Nigeria politically for more efficient governance. Let the regions develop at their own pace by harnessing the natural and human resource that is available to it, as should be the case in a proper federal system. This quasi-unitary political system will not take us to the promised land even in another 100 years.
