i see christians as the ones undermining the power of God. is he less potent in answering prayers on other days of the year compared to the crossover night? for some praying in the nude or repeating words over and over. that is religion over belief.

There are 2 evils holding Nigeria back, they are religion and corruption. These 2 evils are not mutually exclusive, one breeds the other i.e. everywhere you see one of them, if you look carefully, the other is hiding somewhere close.
If Nairaland is more about snakes and Bobrisky this 2017, then I think this comment will win the most reasonable for the new year. Thanks for thinking this deep.

In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, doorways, endings and time. He is usually a two-faced god since he looks to the future and the past. The Romans dedicated the month of January to Janus. His most apparent remnant in modern culture is his namesake, the month of January.
http://www.crystalinks.com/janus.html

Christians go to church every 31st December to give special thanks to Janus - January was named after him - for taking them to the next year.
oh please when you will grow, I don't think you will find any church service praising the month January or Janus

some fix 12 or 3am to combat witches. an alarm clock would do its duty whether you are there or not. if you cannot get God to deal your battles whether you are awake or not then there is no need praying. just say it and believe it as so.

if you do believe in God do not limit him to specific days or times which were not even guidelined anywhere. full trust with your obedience and not say prayers yet include evildoing with the works of your hands that does not glorify your belief.

Even those who have never attended church this year will be present in church tonight.

Truth be told, it's not tonight's prayers that will change your life in 2017. It's simply the ability to do away with those disgusting things that caused set back in 2016, the ability to get your priorities right, and new ways of doing things

I see so many theorists and wannabe philosophers. do you need to be told of the significance of a new year, or you just want another opportunity to insult christians? Even companies run periodically, evaluate the prev year and plan for the subsequent year. Jan 1 isn't just another day, it's a day people can genuinely set their target and guides. If you're religious, you should involve God. If u like spend ur new year in a strip club, your cup of tea.Don't just bash people who see the day, as a unique day.. A NEW BEGINNING. Happy new year to everyone!!!

Bro, just as u know and believe that it is not o.k to be in native doctor house on the 31st of December or any day, believe also that there are blessings attached if you are in God's house on 31st December!
Moreover' how would you say God is your father but you do not go to his house. Think about that bro!

No significant.

Tomorrow (next year) is just a normal day like every other day, I wonder why people stress themselves praying for new things, new life in cross over night when you can do that everyday by working to improve your daily life.

We will start hearing "new year new me".
Bruh, daht phrase of "New Year New Me" iz d most irritating phrase I hate 2 hear frm Nigerians,

Happy New Year celebrations are christians practically though unwittingly worshipping Janus for keeping them safe and sound, though it was seasoned with christian spice to make it conform to the bible.

This should not come as suprising to you though. Records show christianity picked parts of its religion (the ones that appealed to it anyway) from paganism.

Read your bible very well. Christian Religion is patched up and has lots of impurities.

You should learn from the Jehovah's witnesses.

In fact I'm in bar since, watching premier league games and still there watching Liverpool vs man city.
My wife just put a call through that I should make sure I'm home before 11pm so we can go to church for cross over night. Funny enough I don't go to church, in fact I did not attend single church service or programs throughout 2016.
Lalasticlala you dey go church so? Cos I knw say seun no dey go grin
funniest part is that some people will leave bar for church at 11:53 and before 12:10 they will return to there table. you're decieving yourself. everyday is a new year to me. so far i'm still alive

This life is governed by spiritual laws. When we make pronouncements over things we set spiritual laws in motion. The night of 31st December affords us that opportunity to make declarations over the coming year that will activate positive spiritual laws in our favour. Being in an atmosphere of the anointing give our words more weight.
