In this America where a mother can take her child to court over $250 unpaid loan, lol. They are lucky to find such friends/family willing to sponsor their trip.

I had a terrible experience in new York airport. I was refused entry. Reason been my relative address had changed from when I applied for the visa.

I also want the record set straight as I will be eligible for secondment overseas in my firm next year. It might be in our USA office. I don't want it to affect me when the opportunity comes.

Need your advice please

I feel your pain so much and this is a life lesson for us coming from a 3rd world country like Nigeria... Naturally our visa is just a permit to enter plane to U.S Airport not the country itself.
You as a first time traveler you need to bring your A game to the forefront by doing endless research on what to do and what to expect... The truth is that even from Naija airport the airline you're fly from may have profile you for extra security search by placing the 4 S on your Boarding Pass this maybe because of your name or unusual large amount of luggage or very short stay with that said a lot of first time traveler going to U.S do not know the I-94 paper distributed in the plane onward to U.S airport which you must fill with address of where you will be staying while in U.S.
If you're visiting any of your relative you should insist on them waiting for you at the airport or to be expecting you if they can't make it by staying close to the phone.. make sure you keep in touch with them before flying and if possible during stop over. Ask them about where they live and if there's anything you need to know about and if there will be a problem make arrange for a hotel room or Airbnb and to the most important thing if you know that because of cost of flying directly to where you are traveling to is expensive and you wish to arrive in New York because it's cheaper you should have the onward ticket booked and paid for before flying from Nigeria.
As for the poster he got caught up in a messy situation he knows nothing about in U.S I don't know what to say because this is new to me most people I know prefer to chill for like 6 months or 1 year before trying again.... I wish you good luck in your endeavors.

I had a terrible experience in new York airport. I was refused entry. Reason been my relative address had changed from when I applied for the visa. I was supposed to stay for 13 days. The officer tried to contact the number and address on the form without success. My uncle had told me his wife will receive me. The number he gave me was that of the girlfriend in new York and I think that's where the problem started. The reason for this I guess its because of the wife's attitude problem. But the officer new she was not exactly the wife. When he went tru my uncles status he was able to get his wife number
At that time the wife was already trying to reach me. The wife was in california and she told the cbp officer that she will buy me a ticket to LA. But at that point the guys mind was made up. I had to withdraw my visas voluntarily so as not to be forced out and banned. The officer said i can contact the VO in Nigeria. My questions

Can I explain what happened to the Vo and still be able to apply in the future. If yes how do I go about it. I was only made to know i was refused entry. I don't know if I was banned.

If I still want to attend the visit coz am currently on 4wks leave wish just started. How do I go about it. This was my first trip outside Nigeria and I had boasted about in the office. Just don't know how to face that. Lol.

I also want the record set straight as I will be eligible for secondment overseas in my firm next year. It might be in our USA office. I don't want it to affect me when the opportunity comes.

Need your advice please

Good news - you are not banned, as you voluntarily withdrew your request.
Bad news - you'v made it that much harder to obtain another visa... basically the CBP officer thinks you misrepresented a material fact on your application, which is not a good thing.

Ok news - its not the end of the world, relax, wait a few months and reapply again. This time explain in detail (facts only) relating to your previous experience at the POE and hope for the best.

Lesson - perhaps you should consider deleting facebook, there is more to life than showing off that you too have traveled to "yankee".

If not for trump era, it really shouldnt be a big deal getting his visa back. Back in the day (I mean a few months back when Obama was in power) I know a lady that was sent back because sr had her baby in Yankee, pd her bills BT CBP felt it was too cheap and she used medicaid and all. When she shared her story with me, I advised her to reapply immediately. I mean what's the worst that will happen? You gamble 31,200.
So she gathered herself together booked another appointment and went for the interview with all the documents relating to the birth of the baby. She was lucky she met a VO who listened to her entire narration of the experience (sometimes all you need is someone to listen) and took her papers, went in for a while and returned them before approving the visa.
She said she did not know what to expect but getting the visa granted was a big shock to her. She hasn't still gathered the liver to go back sha. That CBP experience can give you PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder.

All I can say is Pele. Next time, just jejeje book hotel and collect hotel booking. Also if I may ask did you travel without cash? Also did you have an itinerary of places to visit as a tourist?

Cos if your uncle isn't picking you up and you got like $2k on you no cbp will turn you back cos you will tell them its disappointing your uncle treated you this way, but you came on holidays and you would like to continue your plans so you will stay in a hotel.

I just remembered my last poe experience in NY... Those guys aren't mean at all, it's only unfortunate this happened to you.

My last trip I made the mistake of not declaring my foodstuff at the machine. When I met the cbp officer he asked me if I had foodstuff I said yes, a lot! And he was like you didn't declare it at d machine I was like mogbe modaran!

The guy was like its alright because I had just told him and he wrote something on my paper and told me to tell them at the front I had food to declare. After collecting my luggage, I saw a few officers checking luggage before you step out and I went to one and explained, on the system, I didn't declare food by mistake but the CBP officer said I should meet you guys here, he was like he's the same officer I met in front...

I was like oh, great and he directed me to agric where my bags were checked and cleared. I still saw him on the way our where he waved and smiled at me.

I suggest we all tune in to CBS reality border security: american front line to know what to expect at the poe because your case isn't supposed to be an issue if you were well informed.

The CBP sent you home because they felt you will be stranded in the US and become a burden to the state if the person picking you was unavailable. It is a frequent occurence on the show.

It was on the show I learnt not declaring food can cost you a fine of $300 hence the moku modaran! And they will gladly colllect cash or credit card. grin

I don't think it has to do with trump. People have been turned back at the Poe since the beginning of time...

I think the officer doubted the legitimacy of the relationship between bros and his uncle. You would be expected to have correct contact info for a genuine family member... or the wife or children...

The problem really is us. If the bros was a swede, the office may have cut him some slack. But how many times have they heard cock and bull stories from us Nigerians? Every "smart" naija "big boy/babe" (aka fraud) makes it that much harder for cbp officers to ignore things like this when it comes to genuine travelers.

We all need to fight the frauds amongst us. No one will do it for us, we just pay for the consequences of being guilty by association.

Lincoln park is not a zoo. It is an area, like saying gbagada and it has a Zoo called Lincoln park Zoo. Millennium park on the other hand is a very famous zone in the heart of chicago, downtown precisely.

You get luck say I no be your VO, I for make you sweat small grin

Be sure to avoid south side by all means. Chicago is the murder capital of the united states. That millennium park sef also witnessed a killing last summer.

Sorry for your ordeal, but I must tell you that the CBP officer was magnanimous not to have issued you an order of "expedited removal" because he/she has the authority to do so. The permission to withdraw your application for admission is a privilege and not a right.  It is solely within the discretion of the CBP officer.

Since you were allowed to voluntarily withdraw your application for admission which means you have not been banned and can re-apply at anytime even though it may raise concerns and questions by a consul. Be prepared to argue your case with your strong ties and hope for a visa officer that will be patient enough to listen to your stories at POE.

Why I won't blame your uncle is the lack of preparedness on your own part.

Did you call your "supposed host" a day to your arrival? Apparently you didn't, otherwise you should have been informed of their relocation and what have you. A hotel booking of less than 2 minutes would have been sufficient.

Why were you sent to secondary in the first instance? You must have given conflicting answers or CBP officer wasn't satisfied with your preliminary answers.

At secondary inspection; was there any incriminating messages found on your phone? What about your baggage? Any work document?

I need to ask because it is rear for a passenger with enough funds coming to the U.S on holiday be turned back at the ports.

You failed to prepare. Good luck reapplying

I sha be igboro. If you were in Uniben in those days, Chicago's got nothing on you.
Not all parts of Chicago are bad. Avoid south side and westside. North side is Bae! Downtown is heavenly. Concrete jungle like New York City.
Not too many tourist locations but its really fun in summer! And you will catch the fever whenever the Chicago cubs have a game. Omg! The entire city is blue and white. If you don't have a cubs jersey you are sleeping on top okada! I wish I could posts pix!!! Then the cubs won the world series for the first time in almost 100 years last November oh boy! I nearly run leave town for them. It was just crazy! Fireworks and all.

I love Chicago o, as long as you understand the terrain, and limit movement at night (high tendency to get mugged if you are not driving) it is fun all the way!

Then the food! Omg! I'm a foodie. I eat everything and everywhere. Red Lobster for exotic seafood, Chinese buffet, Chic fil A for the best chicken sandwich in the world, good old MacDonald's chicken nuggets, popeyes, I can go on and on and on! Chai! Who will buy me ticket?
