what has this got to do with leader? are we talking PMB here? one who was sick instead of fixing the health and medical center he voted billions for at ABJ and ran to meet me here in London for treatment? that speaks volume for the kind of leader you are hammering about.

And Medical center that cannot be fixed for 16yrs you think it can be fix under 2yrs? I wonder what you have up stair..

One of your Hero Akpabio that claim to have build a world class hospital in Akwa Ibom run to London when he had an accident in Abuja.. hahhaa

Funny u mentioned that hospital. I wanted to post story about it but didn't think anyone would care. Apparently vanguard said it fully operational now but doesn't seem to be getting to much press.

Thats exactly how it works actually. The Nass makes law and exuactive order only legal if it's lawful. Weather The NASS decides to make law is annother question. The would need to make law but President could veto it. Then NASS has to counter Veto.

Courts ruling order unconstitutional is just more common. It's doesn't mean it's only option because u don't understand the other methods.

Since Nigeria and US are pretty similar on exuactive orders. Just like Nigeria here's how it works. Constitution > Statutes and laws > Exuactive order. The president isn't dictator so he can't break law and if NASS makes law effectively nullifies order he can simply pound sand.

Ok let's see. The Senate's law should over rule exuative order by any standards. They'll appear in front of committee and wI'll have hands tied of there's no law on their side.

THE REALITY IS THAT IF DUTIES ARE REDUCED .. MORE PEOPLE WILL PAY AND LESS MONEY WILL GO TO THE PRIVATE POCKETS OF CUSTOMS AGENTS.. THE CUSTOMS WILL GENERATE MORE INCOME ...VOLUME .. SHOULD BE THE MAIN FOCUS HERE

Sure they can. They can always change the law. Besides exuactive orders are only enforcable if lawful.

@mapet looks like the plot thickens ounce more. Any thoughts on this? I only wonder how these unregistered foreign vehicles make it for sale. The people caught with them naturally should end up in jail for have unregistered vehicle or not paying tax. Assuming this stuff is in system.

In other I have to register my vehicle every year or else get a ticket or go to jail. Skipping out on taxes is not an option.

I do also see other people's point when they say reduce clearing fees, currupt customs is at fault, the end buyer is usually victim, etc.

Unfortunately we are witnessing the consequences of the rot both at the ports and boarders in part, and the corrupt nature of people. Vehicles that passed through the ports without paying duties are hurting the system; there is no other way to spin it. The Senate is just trying to play coy or seeking for unnecessary attention. "Collaboration" with the ports itself hurts the system and needs to be eliminated. That some corrupt custom officials allowed cars into the country with fake papers, regardless of the numbers is no justification to halt a process of the law trying to correct the system. What are the implications? 1. Loss of revenue to the government 2. Negative image to the country 3. Bad for economy and business - We have not properly envisioned the value we erode in our ports and border, Singapore probably makes as much as we make from oil, through their ports.

A multiple approach to the system is sure welcome. Yes we need to address corrupt customs, but we also need to "discourage" people that benefit from the process.
