Well i think the problem with Nigerian doctors is that they expect so much from the society as if everything in the society revolve around them. They forget that there are other important professionals who do their jobs for the passion without expecting anybody to lick their boots.

Much as i'd loved love the government to live up to their responsibility of maintaining set standards of practice of all professions, i think people should stop expecting to be worshipped by others for doing their jobs for which they are paid. Let's learn to choose our professions for the passion, provided it is one that will keep us busy, and not expect to be treated like celebrities except when we have achieved exceptional feats in our professions.

Celebrities are specially talented people who are celebrated for using their talents to impact virtually the whole world and not just afew people in a clinic. Never mind that the word celebrity is abused here in Nigeria.

So, my doc friends, let's be real!

The society has moved beyond that. Professionas are now respected by their efficient practice not by certificate. Distinguish yourself in the medical field and you won't have a reason to rant about being disrespected.

I respect doctors but Engineers will always earn more than you guys any time anyday. Moreover, go for what you have passion for not just the money.

Even before Nigeria economy went south, engineers earn more than doctors. I could remember my lecturer then, telling us (students) how her first son a medical doctor was complaining that his younger brother salary, a computer engineer would pay his own salary for 3months. How many of you doctors are earning fine, that is why most of you are eager to have your own clinics/hospitals. I don't even allow new generation doctors to treat me because most of you aren't doing the job with passion.

The truth remains that being a Medical professional is different from being financially intelligent. They are 2 different things entirely.

....firstly,i'm not a doc.

2ndly,forget about passion this or that.we were all sent to school to study,become a professional and making money.If you have a son that study medicine,Will you tell him that,look,this your job is for passion.to show how passionate are you just set up a private clinic and be treating people for free?...And when your work is not corresponding to your work then you complain.Teachers too can do.it is only when doctors are complaining that they will be shouting passion.Also,they have passion for it that is why they go for it.majority of doctors can study engineering with ease.

But you see, you can't really do without a doctor because the earlier a client present with a problem the greater the likelihood of curability. Later presentation myt leave management and making the clients life more bearable as the only option, because eventually a client must present. I mean doctors don't give life.
