CASHLESS POLICY: PAYPORTE SUSPENDS PAYMENT ON DELIVERY

Payporte.com, an indigenous online store and sponsor of the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, has announced the suspension of ‘Payment On Delivery’, as part of its payment options.
According to the online store, only online secured payments and bank transfers would be accepted as means of payment from Monday March 3, 2017, in its bid to better serve customers better and to re-position its business for profitability.
The MD / CEO, PayPorte, Mr. Eyo, said, the decision was in line with the new CBN cashless policy, increasing security challenges posed by Payment on Delivery option and improved customers satisfaction. “We have suspended the Payment On Delivery option on our website with effect from today, April 3, 2017.
“Our decision was necessitated by the increasing risk and security challenges posed by this payment option. Also, to reduce the amount of cash carried from one location to another by our delivery staff. We encourage our customers to make use of our other secured electronic payment options such as online payment or bank transfer for payments.
“We believe this will also play an active role in the growth of e-commerce business in Nigeria, as well as give a new dimension to the business” added Eyo. In line with the suspension, refunds for unsatisfied customers would now be processed within a maximum of 48 hours while only customers who have shopped on PayPorte for five times or more will be able access the POD option from the 10th April pending its total discontinuation.

Any good thing that comes to Nigeria is always abused....

Democracy abused
Communication abused
Internet abused (yahoo yahoo)

Nigerians must find a dubious way out of a good invention of innovation to scam or defraud his populace...

We must change our negative mentality before we can improve in this country..

Well to me I don't even know why this online markets are doing pay on delivery service, it is a bad strategy right from time. But still they still go on to do it as per competition strategy.

Before you quote me and shout "that is how it is been done in developed country" please note that you use "developed" moreover what is obtained in one place may not be necessarily obtained in other climes.

I am just happy they are getting it right now. Instead of risking the safety of their agents, they should make their payment portal more effective.

I don't think that is the best option they are left with....

Now, to address some of you saying that they are abusing it... The newly reviewed Cash Lite policy would crash their business under 6 months considering the large amount of penalty charges they would pay over that period. For every deposit above 3 million will cost them a great deal of money.

What i think they should enforce is no cash payment on delivery. There should be option of paying with debit card and other online means available. The risk of carrying cash around is too much, considering what happened to the Jumia delivery guy.

Will online payment work that much??
I work in the online industry and the only time people are usually ready to pay online is when they are sending the order to someone else.
Otherwise, most Nigerians would opt for ''cash on delivery''.

Now that Payport has belled the cat, will the likes of Jumia and Konga follow suite?

It will definitely affect their sales because the major secret of e-commerce success in Nigeria is the introduction of pay on delivery.

E-commerce giants in Nigeria should have a platform where they discuss issues like this and take a joint decision for the betterment of the industry.

When are we going to get it right in Nigeria? Investors are scared of coming here, no light, no security, and the few ones that summon courage to start the business, Nigerians will dupe them, kill their delivery personnel, order for products and still arrange for robbing them at the point of delivery!

We have a very long way to go but unfortunately, we don't even know where we are going!

This people have just smelt the coffee, why didn't eBay or Amazon enter the Nigeria market, because the risk far outweighs the benefits.

The last time I paid cash before delivery was to konga and It took about 2 months for me to receive the item after several calls. That was when i vowed never to try such again. So any Nigerian company that cannot do cash on delivery or at a nearby pickup centre is not for me.

The reason people opt for pay on delivery is simply because some of the online shops are not honest. They supply items of different quality from the advertised and ordered ones......just one shop I patronize, online and they are good and honest with me ....obeeezi.....Never paid cash but it is always pay on delivery

Well, I definitely wouldn't pay ahead for such items before delivery. Na to enter nearest shop buy wetin I want, na him sure pass. If they can ask clients to do a transfer to them at the point of receiving goods, it would be ok.

Nonsense. Suspension of POD to better serve customers?...and increase profitability?..and in keeping with CBN cashless policy? To have POD in the first place is to put the lives of the delivery persons in jeopardy....especially in a society like this... when also the business can be hurt when dishonest delivery persons can also claim to have been robbed. He should just said POD is suspended and not add all the dumb explanation.
