F#ck me, is this for real?

The short term upgrade has been done. The ARAIDS system will slot into the medium term and currently awaits funding. The long term of course is a completely new assault rifle, which personally, I think should be a licence-produced Galil ACE. Politically of course, anything Israeli is anathema. My 2nd choice would be the CZ 807 Bren. No mucking about, 7.62 all the way!

Still on my imaginary AFV this is as far as it got, 9 years ago.

Ratel inspired, I threw in the spare wheel on top. Then the modular armour plates.

Looking at how slooowly the short term upgrade is filtering through, I suspect the ARAIDS will only be implemented on whatever future rifle we end up getting. And even then, it will be profiency-based. "No marksman badge? Get out!" grin grin grin

It's understandable, the budget is tight and there's about 300 000 R4/R5 if I'm not mistaken.

A traipse in the bush and your optics sensor is gone. That's why Denel is busy re-jigging the Badger turret, after the bush break trials.

Seeing we've already had this for trials, might not be a bad option for our new OPVs.
Patria and Schiebel work to fit MUM-T technology to Camcopter UAS
Patria and Schiebel are working to integrate the former's Compact Airborne Networking Data Link (CANDL) communication network onto the latter's Camcopter S-100 rotary-wing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), it was announced on 30 March.

The effort by the Finnish-Norwegian and Austrian companies is being conducted with the goal of fielding a Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) capability for the Camcopter S-100 in support of manned helicopter operations.

MUM-T is the latest 'must have' technology when it comes to enabling the operations of manned helicopters in denied environments. This is especially true for scout and attack helicopters which are typically the first to cross into enemy territory.

UAVs are especially well-suited to the mission sets that are seen as being too 'dull', 'dangerous', or 'dirty', and the scout and attack roles are certainly dangerous. MUM-T technology enables the crew of the manned helicopter to send the UAS out ahead to either scout the area for enemy activity and air defences, or to attack them directly.

Bender 3D

https://www.blender.org/

The whole program is about 50MB.

It's open-source but you should see some tutorials (PDF or YouTube), took me some considerable time just to find my way around it.

No it's not. NAF carries out the refurbishment of upgrade of it's aircrafts in Nigeria. At the airbase in Kaduna, Lagos or Port-Harcourt.

It's an NAF L-39 in new Camo, not a new sir frame.

So there was some spare paint lying around and they decided to have a go at it ? Seems like a faff

Virtually all air assets dedicated to the COIN operations in the North-East are painted in the desert camouflage scheme. The Merlin helicopters from the PAF, MI-17 terminator helos, MI-24v, the EC-135 helos, i guess you see where i am going with this.

it is simply routine and is not necessarily an indication that a new air-frame or asset has been procured.

On another dimension, i haven't seen pictures of Army SSC cadets online or anywhere. Even SSC officers, i haven't seen pics of them yet, most officers are RC ex-boys.

Anyone with SSC cadet/officer pics should share.

SSC have no distinction outside the Acad.
No tags / special uniform

Remember the chopper that crashed was also painted in that same Camo? I guess NAF is just trying to use that camo pattern in NE.

Makes sense, I wonder what camo incoming assets will be painted in, almost can't imagine a JF17 thunder in desert camo.
