Was that not about Nigeria and Nigerians?
Is Manchester United in Nigeria?
Or is it Calabar Rovers FC?
What is the basis of your comparison and question please?

What economic benefit did you derive from watching BBN?

Nigeria, my country derived a whole lot of benefits from the show and continues to do so.

They died watching the team they love!

This unavoidable deaths was caused by negligence from PHCN. Power that was meant to power homes and factories is channelled to cause massive death and injuries.

I hope some persons will be held responsible and football centres should be in a secure place and not make shift structures we have all over the country.

I sympathise with their families too

From a Chelsea fan
Blaming PHCN is simply being unfair.
Are buildings supposed to be erected under high tension cables??
.
That ought to be the right question.

Why should they hand out free money for gross stupidity?

Do you know how bad the electrical wiring must have been for this to happen?

Or what kind of ramshackle venue this must have been? I'm sure that you could tell before walking in that the venue was unsafe but because of the culture of tolerating nonsense these people walked in to a death trap.

If they were in Calabar there are plenty of places to watch a game where you won't be in harms way. These people took their lives into their own hands and it ended unfortunately for them.

Hopefully none of them had children. This is Darwin's law at work.
The people who died were innocent of such supposed stupidity as you put it. There were just innocent fans who came to watch a good game.
It could have been anybody.
You may have been chanced to be in calabar for one thing or the other and decide to just branch to any viewing center to watch your favourite team only to get electrocuted to death.
Besides, Manunited have spent far more much funds on irrelevant nonsense. Giving the families of dead fans a few loose change that most united players waste in a week in soliciting for prostitutes is far from the worse thing in the world.
Manunited is the richest Football club in the world.

I really dont know much about the Nigerian Tort system, but the victims' family should be able to sue the federal govt (including local and state) and/or PHCN as they may all be jointly or severally liable for negligence; probably through a class action.

With the right media trial, they may get a huge settlement out of court before the case proceeds to trial. Although no amount of money can replace their loved ones, they can at least get some compensation to prepare a good life for the younger ones in their family.

I am sure the electric poll would have been defective in some way before it finally fell, but some authorities may have turned a blind eye to it. This kind of court actions will make the authorities more proactive once they know they are at a risk of an influx of litigations should they fail to remedy situations early.

This nice gesture ManU everybody is shouting,me not understanding o, like seriously were they suppose to keep mute knowing it was their game they went to watch? For me the gesture here is to pay the hospital bill for those sovivors in the hospital and try to help the families of the deceased, yes that is what manu fc is meant to do if they have respect for their fans

RIP to the die hard fans that actually died in a hard way while supporting their team

this is good move by man utd but i think it would have been better if;

1) they can as well send delegates to pay a condolence visit to their family

2) have their pictures displayed at Old Trafford before the kick off of their next home match

3) observe one minute in-play silence to mourn their death(irrespective of whether its home or away match)

this is how to show respect to your fans irrespective of their country.

My dear you ain't watching football for the players benefit alone, you are watching for your own happiness. People have different interests. People have different things they are willing to risk anything for. I can bet you have yours. And remember they just wanted to have fun, they never knew death would come. Anything can kill a man. You can stay in your house and also get electrocuted. So your advice is invalid.

I can stay out all night watching football if that is what it takes to watch my team play. If you have nothing worth living for, then you are not fit to live.

Thinking about the imminent champions league final in Cardiff, I feel overjoyed and can't wait to listen to the sound of the Champions League anthem with fans screaming and the players shaking their foot in response to pressure and anxiety.

Football gives me a reason to live, it brings immeasurable joy to my soul, and if I die watching football, I wouldn't have any regrets.
You are blessed man
