There's nothing wrong with standing upright to greet elders, I would rather have assertive offspring than subservient ones.
However, this is how Igbos traditionally greet elders. As you can see, Nnamdi Kanu's posture while greeting an elder is not alien to Igbo culture.
What distinguishes the Igbo traditional way of greeting from others is that the elder accepts/ receives the greeting by patting the greeter's back. You reckon Alex Ekwueme also picked that up from prison?
