The world's first robocop has been unveiled in Dubai and will be patrolling streets from tomorrow onward.

The 5 ft 5in tall robot can read facial expressions and will be used by members of the public to report crime and pay traffic fines.

Multi-lingual crime-fighting robots will make up a quarter of the city's police force by 2030, according to officials.

The robocop is part of the Emirates' planned robot police force and was unveiled at a three-day long Gulf Information Security and Expo Conference on Sunday.
The conference finishes tomorrow at which point the robocop will be released onto Dubai streets to tackle real crime.
'The launch of the world's first operational Robocop is a significant milestone for the Emirate and a step towards realising Dubai's vision to be a global leader in smart cities technology adoption', said Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director-General of Smart Services for the police in Dubai.
'With an aim to assist and help people in the malls or on the streets, the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels', he said.
The announcement about plans for a robot police force was made at the 11 Best Police Practices Forum held in Dubai in March.

If this robot gets to Nigeria, the first thing it'll learn is how to collect bribe at checkpoints.

I hope it doesn't get hacked and manipulated by my fellow bad ass hackers. grin grin grin grin grin

This stuff is not really as hard to produce as some folks think. All you basically "need" is a good programmer. The program is the main issue in any robot. The hardware components can be easily sourced and connected by good mechanical and electrical engineers.

That thing even looks silly and awkward physically. C'mon, they can draft a design that looks better and more appealing than that shiit.

Tot as much. the build look cheap nd fundamental. wonder what the power source is tho. it cant be a nuclear reactor power source bcuz that would make it harzadious if malfunctioned. and any kid with a basic knowledge in SQL management and gets his hand on server wer the database are stored can cripple UAE within hours. and if its powered by car battery, its as good as a big walking powerbank grin Building robots are easy, controling nd prevent hacks are not.

See this one Ooo... Na you won dey tell me about RoboCop? The only reason I made reference to iRobot was because at a point of time in the movie, one of the robots got corrupted and then became a menace to the society. So I hope we aren't going to have that kind of situation in the UAE. Just saying.

Dubai is upgrading to robot police
And naija police now is still less effective than the american police or sheriffs in the 1800s

I would have said its not the same person that created whites, arabs and some asians that created africans (some muslim arabs included) but lemme keep chut
