(2)^n +1 = (3)^k where n and k are integers. Given that the pairs (1,1) and (3,2) are solutions in the form (n, k). Show that there exist another solution or no solution.

There exist no other solutions outside (1,1),(3,2).

Indeed, for k>2, 3^k increases drastically and approaches 81 for k=4, and it would continue this way for higher values of k.

But 2^n , although an increasing function, it's growth is quite slow compared to 3^k. So, if we rewrite the equation as.

1 = 3^k - 2^n

the powers of 3 for k>2 are 27, 81, 243, 729, 2,187 . . .

and powers of 2 for n>3 are 32, 64, , 256, 128, 1024 . . .

So, since 3^k increases drastically than 2^n then there difference is never equal to unity hence no solution to the above equation.

Also. Subtract one from both sides to obtain 2^n = 3^k - 1. Now for k>3, this equation has no solutions, Indeed, we ask ourself, is there a power of 3 such that when diminished by unity equals a power of 2? Well, none(except) satisfies the given condition and observing how the sequence of powers of 3 increases drastically.

Deep analysis and care full argument has allowed us to conclude that the no solutions exist.

Remark: The question is quite cheap, to increase its difficulty, one could instead phrase it this way.

"Does there exist an integer k>2 such that 3^k - 1 is a power of 2"?

Very nice attempt but I believe there are other solutions. You only considered the values of n to be little. If it's way higher, isn't there any chance the relationship between it and the power of 3 will be unity?

bro the question is confusing.
is it the two mirror that is inclined at angle 40 or one of them.
sorry for the belated response. both mirrors are inclined at each other at angle 40. The first mirror will be drawn straight and the other will be inclined at it at angle 40 degree using a protractor. Here s the question again
DrinkWater10:
PHYSIC PLEASE.. sorry for derailing
Two plane mirrors are inclined at an angle of 40o and a ray of light which makes an angle of incidence of 60o with one of the mirrors happens to undergo two successive reflections at the mirrors. Determine the angle of deviation.

I honestly think what you need is to have a good grasp of most of those concepts of limits, functions, differentiation, integration through thorough reading rather than just bring all of the questions here. I am sure that you can peruse them in 6 hours and go ahead to solve all these. Good luck!

Total angle of deviation =angle of deviation off mirror 1+angle of deviation off mirror 2
Total angle of deviation=60+60+20+20=160o

Retype the whole question particularly from ....when A had travelled 8km. That part doesn't make sense. Seems something is missing because you said ...." When A had travelled 8km AND the 2 boths were found to be 12km apart". Seems there is something before the "and" or just take a snapshot of the question. I think the question is from NGM. I have solved it before. Just cross check and type the correct thing or snapshot it.
