2. Visa on Arrival is way cheaper and hassle free than it is made to look(the only cheaper option on the long run is if you are in atlanta and go for the baby nigerian passport). Just send a mail to oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng requesting for one using the format shared previously on the forum and you would be responded to early enough. in my case,I got a response the same day and please do it yourself and dont pay any processing money. You only need to pay the actual application fee to immigration which can be made on arrival($180 using card and $190 using cash though. Surprisingly,my wife mentioned they did not even look at any letter at Lagos Airport to give our baby the visa. Note that houston immigration requested to sight the actual email so you may want to keep your phone and email handy to avoid complications

Please write an application letter and attach documents (husband's data page, wife's data page, baby's data page and travel itinery, to this email address:

Pm me, i just saw your message.
Hi Nozzle,
I'm also interested in making enquiries about Henrico. Doctor's contact and overall cost since i read from the thread that they've increased their cost recently. Also average cost of accommodation you got. Thanks so much
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by Vanekj: 4:14pm On Jul 08, 2017
Hello Shawshank,

Thanks for the breakdown. Quite helpful. Please can you email me the Doctor's name and contact, accommodation you used while in Virginia/costing and also noticed you didn't mention pediatrician or is that what well baby represents.
Thanks.

Shawshank:

Breakdown of my bills
Hosp fee for vag delivery- 2078
Doctors fee for vag delivery- 850
Epidural- 1450
Well baby- 264
Hearing test- 160 ( I declined)
1st doctors appointment- 110, subsequent ones-30
Lab- whole panel about 145 or so but the doctor accepts results from Nigeria
Pray for favour not to use epidural...
Let me know if you have any other question

Good evening @Dwebb55 . I'm new here, don't even know where and hw to pm here. I have a relative in Norfolk so I'm searching for hospitals around Norfolk, Hampton, Newport New, Chesapeake & co . All the OBGYN I contacted were asking that I send medical record via fax before I can even correspond with Dr. Some even asked I send it before they give price and then Dr will know whether to accept me or nt. I will be due in Nov. but hope to travel 5 or 6wks before EDD ie @ 33 or 34wks.
- Do you know any obgyn Dr. and hospitals around this axis that are affordable and easily accepts foreign patients?

I'm not sure there's a way around sending your medical history.. if you're registered at a hospital here in naija and have been attending antenatal then just request for your medical history. When you get it, send the fax. Or simply scan it to your host ( if you're gonna stay with family/ friends) and they'll get it done.

Hello Everyone,

i'm a first timer on Nairaland. I must say a whole lot of support in here. Well done guys.

We want to have our first baby in the US. Have gone through the thread and know that i'm to:

Apply for a B1/B2 so reason can be Tourism and also to give birth.

However I need your advice on the following.

1. Affordable Hospitals in Maryland (that's where i can be accommodated). Have heard Maryland is expensive but i'm sure someone here would have eventually gotten a good deal. Please help with any link or direct contact to the hospital/doctor. i have googled and filled in contact forms but no revert. i have called but they keep directing me to their insurance company so please i'm crying for help.

2. Is or Was there anyone who planned to stay in Maryland however give birth in another state that's more affordable and not too far from Maryland. When did you leave Maryland for the place and when were you fit to travel back to Maryland after delivery. Also hospital details (especially cost) and contact to Doctor

3. Any other information would be helpful.

Thanks!
Don't know where in Maryland you are but Inova Fairfax and Alexandria both in Virginia might be close enough for you so check it out. It is not as cheap as the popular El paso, Houston and Phoenix destinations but ofcourse you will have savings from staying in a relations place so that should balance out. Believe everything will not cost more than 9k USD.
See you talk about Henrico, might be cheaper but I think it will be too far for you from Maryland. You have to think of ante natal visits and labor emergencies.

I used a birth center for my first delivery. It did not affect my 2 renewals at all. You don't do it for free, you've only pay a cheaper bill. Using there health care for free is the problem.

That must have been a while ago. Recently it has become an issue, esp in Abuja

Your strongest tie is in the US, your husband, even if you intend to come back to Nigeria after childbirth, the VO is bound by law to assume that you have migrant intent - basically tell your husband to apply for you to join him in the US, as the VO codedly tells in his question.

"Vo: where's your husband
Me:He resides in the US
Vo: why is he not filing for you"

Hello house, am new here and trust me when I say I have basically almost read every page of each thread from thread 1-5..please I have some burning questions

Am about to go for my interview but I have some questions.

1. I am not even pregnant yet or maybe I am cos working on it. So should I go for a normal B1 visa even though I know I will probably use for birthing or i might go for vacation first if need be..am just scared that incase one is refused and maybe the next time i go back am preggy they shouldnt think i lied intentionally? Or just wait till am fully preg so I can apply for the medical. I really dont want to misrepresent my intentions

2. How soon can I apply when pregnant?

3. Can my dad sponsor my trip with his company account or it has to be his personal account? Is this even allowed that its my dad and not my hubby sponsoring me?

4. Maryland is where we have relatives so I intend to use this to apply and probably change to a cheaper destination later..

5.apply alone or with hubby?

Wow see me planning way ahead I want to do things right...... In between I did have a us visa that I didnt get to use due to personal things that came up that period. I am well traveled to the UK and some Asian and middle east countries...my passport name has also changed to my marital name...your thoughts will be much appreciated
Thanks in anticipation.....

Spot on. . QED

Terese69:

Most doctors tell you that you have to be in for your first appointment by a certain time usually by 32/33 weeks of gestation, have you considered that?

Assuming that's not an issue, have you thought about the cost of your prenatal checks in Maryland during your stay there before you move on to Texas? Who will handle your prenatal care in Maryland? Won't you have to pay another doctor in Maryland for that? What if your baby comes earlier than expected? What if you have an emergency? What's the cost of transportation to and fro Texas? How much will you really be saving at the end of the day? Is that figure really worth all the hassle? At the end of the day, you "may" find that getting an affordable accomodation in Houston/El Paso may be cheaper for you in the long run.

In as much as you want to save cost which I absolutely understand, you have to be careful with your decisions so as not to end up being penny wise pound foolish.
