Nigeria doesn't have a precise range let alone quantity....no one knows the exact amount of people in the country, everything remains a propaganda

I don't believe we are up to the 180m estimate

Every state rigs its number and we end up with a bloated overall number.

Census manipulation is the greatest fraud in Nigeria. That fraud is the cause of our disjointed federalism.

Population density is a combination of two factors, population and SIZE.
Rwanda has a higher population density than Nigeria but is smaller than Nigeria in population by far, because of its small size Simply put, it is more tightly packed buy contains less people.

In case you don't know Yorubas and Hausas are both more populated than Igbos, but both have more land. The whole South East sef is just about Oyo state size plus small Jara.

Can you now see that u are forever doomed with what is called Iberibeism.

No one knows the population of Nigeria because u can't count all the animals in a forest...

Imagine that in 1991 census Nigeria's population was pegged at 88 million n by 2011 it was estimated at over 160 million. Pls 20 years is not even up to a generation and yet the Nigerian population doubled in that period.

Yorubaland is and has always been the most populated/most populous region in the country since forever .
Nothing has changed.

Lol... The census is manipulated for several reasons.

1. It determines the amount of allocation given to each state.

2. More importantly, it determines the number of seats a state has at the House of Representatives.

All census figures in recent times have maintained the same proportion of people in each state relative to the total census count. Hence the number of seats hasn't changed, leaving the number of northern seat slightly more than the south.

Don't stress yourself man, both North and South do it. The way to stop this is to stop allocations.

NIGERIA is Africa’s most populous country, a designation it wears with pride. It had more than 182m citizens in 2015, according to the World Bank, and is poised to have the world’s third-largest population, behind India and China, by 2050.

I have been laughing at our unintelligent ways since I heard that on TV. How do we plan to overtake USA, Indonesia and Brazil with our poor infrastructure?
I see the family planning commercial on TV and I keep asking why they refuse to inculcate this into the mind of the northerners that prefer to have kids they can hardly care for.

The simple thing that will make our population remain inflated are the bloggers and media. Natural disasters will help us check our population, which I am sure of. our health system is not improving, crime will increase (paving way for disasters & unnecessary deaths) if our government keep paying lip services to industrialization of some states which will improve lives, lip service in providing agricultural mechanism which will result in famine in some areas (more death too).

We are talking of 2050 being 3rd most populous (and we haven't survived the agitation here and there o) when we can't provide quarter of what USA provides to increase their population. The visa lottery they do, what do we actually think USA is doing? Every year, they absorb asylum seekers.... they open their military recruitment to all nationalities... Indonesia provides scholarship to undergraduate & graduates, they have a working system that is tolerant (even with the largest Muslim population).
So I see us only in competition with Brazil 5th (with better power supply) and Pakistan 6th.

We simply don't have leaders at all, we only have rulers who don't think. What are we putting in place to absorb the increasing population? our only answer is Church & Mosque....... as half of those always writing utme can't gain admission, half of the graduates can't get meaningful employment, an average Nigerian lives on $1 a day, health care nko?

We don miss road taytay

China and India has higher population density than United states. Both nation's are large than US in population..Simply put it, more tightly packed nation's can be populous that nations with larger land mass. Land is not determinant of population,it is resources.

That's exactly the difference between North and South!
Virtually all southern states are denser than northern states, but the North is almost four times the size of the south (at least no one can claim they've inflated the land mass as well). So if you multiply the population density with land area, you end up with a higher population in the north.
wrong. Just like saying US should have higher population than China because of land mass. China as well as India has small land mass but larger population than US.

Census figures are manipulated everywhere in the country,i believe we southerners may be more guilty of that.during the 2006 census,my village which has less than 1000 people recorded over 4000 courtesy of my uncle who was incharge due to the belief that higher population begets higher government attention, revenue and patronage and amenities.this inflation is what is only obtainable during elections and with inec registers.a peep at the national voters register between 1979 to 1993 would reveal a lot of discrepancies.i believe that nigeria is less than 100million.
About who is more populous between the north and south,i believe that the north is clearly more populous.they have a higher birth rate due to their religion and lifestyle.the only place we have such birth rates in the south is among the yoruba muslims and the akwa ibomites.the birth rate of ibo women has dropped due,i noticed this during my service in anambra.many households are not more than 6 there.here in crossriver state where i am,i see a lot of northerners around.there are even rivalling the ibos in population of non indigenes.i also observed this in rivers and akwa ibom states.the south has more population density but when compared with the large landmass of the north, the north comes top.in the interim, maybe the united nations should come and conduct our census

I have been there.several areas are uninhabited.also in several parts of the south are largely uninhabited.i can give you instances.most of the southerners that live in the north admit that they are heavily populated.even patience jonathan said they give births anyhow which points to indirect admittance of a higher population

ibo has high birth rates as well. most ibo are Catholics and are against birth control until recently. North has both high birth and death rates.
