I do.

Some of us go back to check on previously installed roofs especially if it's in the same catchment area.

Still checked one done 6years ago last weekend. Although I was just passing and decided to 'branch'.
Nice one @ Oga KolaShangOne. There's nothing as good as seeing your past projects still standing firm. It tells good of the contractor.

@EgunMogaji. I agree. I looked at the map of United States of America. Some states Like Texas as big as our country Nigeria..imagine that. We just don't invest our resources in flood control. Besides, we don't have winter storms, volcanoes, and earthquakes like most of these Western countries do.
Yes we do sir, all the money that suppose to be used are in the pocket of those political looters. May be you should be asking where are the ecological funds that been giving to your governors over the years. We seems to forget things fast, remember former Plateau state governor that was facing prosecution of looting those funds, that is just one of them. The case is still in court if I'm right since 2007 with know conclusion till date. The same guy today is one of the senators writing laws for Nigerians imagine that. That is just one example of the damage these so called leaders as done to that country. I'm a strong believer that things can get better in no time, if only we citizens get our perority rights as to whom we voted in to represent ours interests as people.

We are driving at the same point sir
The country need to first be fixed before we can start talking good about it
U don't expect me to talk good of a conutry that has failed in all aspect...that is my point
Patroitism is driven by stiff enforcement in most developed countries
Mind u i am not supporting any administration
We have been living in a failed state ever since IBB regime, not that it was good prior to IBB regme, but i think it was better
Thank you, for stating the fact. I'm not supporting any party or any administrations either but good governance.

I really don't understand this your comment
Seems it has been long u visited this country
U think anyone would want to tarnish his own?
This your countires not talking about their woes is wrong
If we are talking about a problem & the government isn't addressing it, is it when we keep mute about it government will address it?
Just tell me what is good about this country to cover up for the bad ones?
U dare compare nigerians meaningless killings by boko haram to USA killngs?
Yet all of u run to USA?
How many US citizens do u see fighting for visa to come to nigeria?
A conutry whose president reside in another country & whose children are graduates of foreign institutions...can anything be more shameful than that?
There is nothing good to talk about nigeria, from our health system to education to roads is nothing but total failure. The only thing to talk about is the competence of our politicians when it comes to corruption.

Pls if u wanna compare any situation with nigeria, don't use countries like USA, use our neighbours like ghana & senegal...Nigeria can never be like USA in any aspect if we continue with this level of corruption...& i don't see us changing anytime soon...
Succinctly put and spot on, Nigeria is a jungle, l once suggested that it should be auctioned on eBay and sold either to the highest bidder, Western Europe, Oceania or the Americas, I still stand by my opinion anyday without apologies, I was in Nigeria recently and visited few places, apart from useless cosmetic display by the wicked politicians to score cheap political points, nothing is moving in that country, the masses are suffering terribly, tell me one single thing Nigerians are enjoying at the moment, it is the same bulshit promises in every election, my friends who also visited at the same time with me are scared of going out to avoid been kidnapped or robbed, yes, I agree that other countries have challenges but Nigeria is the current place called Hell on planet earth, I don't believe in the adage that says no place like home, home to me is where my wellbeing, peace, security and the ability to become whatever l want legitimately without knowing anybody is guaranteed , it is better to be a first, second, third or fourth class citizen in the West than to be a Nigerian, I know the several embarrassment I faced at various airport while traveling with the useless tissue paper called Nigerian passport before I got my citizenship, I have been to smaller African countries that even with the little resources they have their citizens are still better off than the so called giant of Africa, giant of Africa my foot wink

I believe you don't have control on that, it may start from you to make it better. Our attitude home and abroad make a living hell of what it ways today. Don't ask my why good luck sir.

Honestly my brother what u said is the bitter truth
The rate of hardship in Nigerian presently is alarming
When i visited my state last, Edo state, the federal road connecting the state to abuja is now so bad that travellers now pass inside small villages to get to their destination
Honestly i wept at the sight of the road
A country which is one of the top oil producing countries in world
I think Nigeria is presently the second to or the worst country in Africa
The likes of Botswanna are doing well
Were we got it wrong is what i can't tell
Too many vibrant youths on the street wasting away
The future is bleak, because the way the avreage youth reasons bespeaks they will be more corrupt than the ones we have now
I fear for the future of this country

Lol, and the suffering you left behind as at when you left has not been mitigated, it has taken a quantum leap to space, I don't know much about your terrain at ibadan because I only visited University of ibadan years ago for a conference, my point is, where you currently have your building, l guess you have to provide borehole, Phcn poles paid by you, adequate security for your own safety, contribute to your neighborhood road maintenence etc, if you have to do all this, you are already a mini country within a country, then tell me while I will pledge my loyalty to that country, they collect taxes in different ramifications from the working populace and few corporate entities but it ends in private pockets, how will I pledge my loyalty to a country that since I was born, left it, come visiting on several occasions and yet it is the same cock and rooster stories, millions was budgeted for the airport rehabilitation but on arrival, you are welcome with touch light to stamp your passport, bathrooms are stinking like dead pigs, and once you finally enter the country proper, you start seeing the suffering staring at your face, friends, relatives all clustering around you for help, support and assistance, no thanks to the sufferings in the land, hunger is a big issue now in the country, poverty has made people desperate to commit all kinds of crime just to eat, and I am told not to say what I have been seeing for decades without any hope in sight for better tomorrow sad

2 of my friends are currently in both Rwanda and the UAE to open up a business, the one in Rwanda is about opening one of the best entertainment industry in kigali with other businesses along the line, the other one has opened a big African entertainment club in the UAE, to get his operating license in the UAE was not easy initially but a local emirati from the royal family took the issue to the king of Dubai and the king ordered the ministry in charge to issue the guy both the alcohol license and the clubbing business, the guy has opened it and it is a first class entertainment spot in the Difc zone in Dubai, to rent a building in that zone is not a child's play not to talk of having a first class entertainment center there but the king of Dubai approved the license for my friend, other countries are attracting investment but the giant of Africa is sleeping grin

In Ibadan, time stood still since 1986 till now. In certain areas it even went backwards.

The changes are as follows:

Before:
There were as such as brand new tear rubber Nissan/Toyota/Mazda/Mitsubishi public transport
There were landlines at homes
Running water
Semi constant electricity, I never remember wearing an unironed shirt to work, ever

After:
Cellphone, but they created mounds of trash from the charge cards
No running water
Electricity is now worse, IMHO
Used cars all over the place.

Not sure if anybody remembers the spectacle in the 80's when new cars are being driven in convoy from the ports with all the reckless driving and accidents.

I love Nigeria and retiring to Nigeria in a few years because of personal reasons, not because it offers a better lifestyle for me.

Incidentally, what is saddening to me is seeing leaders that studied abroad, lived abroad for many years but as soon as they get in a position of authority they become corrupt too. Tell me if that is not a curse.

Ordinary Ethiopia, war torned Ethiopia has a world class national airline.

How dare you interrupt a proper political talk with your nonsense request for on topic information? grin

On a serious note, if you can come close to the prices I would just latch onto Skimanski to sell you his doors. Beg, plead, throw tantrum if you must, threaten to defecate on the floor of his showroom if it requires that grin

My toilet set is N70K but made in Nigeria. Not sure if you are allergic to Nigerian made stuff like some of our high falooters on here.
My kitchen sink is N15K.
My doors are N28K I think. I will never use a locally manufactured, as in Baba Bilikisu, ever again.

Only God can reward u for saying the truth
Anybody praising Nigeria is not being honest
Some parts of Ghana, especially accra can now boast of constant electricity supply without interruption
Yet we are the source they tap from, yet our international airport now uses torch to screen travellers...what a great shame

We can only start developing this country by first telling ourselves the bitter truth
In Ghana during elections, election boxes are located in markets & on the streets& everyone goes about their normal activities....without armed men restricting movements...Just Ghana ooo

What good is there to talk about us?
Telling ourselves the truth is the first step to developing this country...

Wow, you brought some fresh memories back to me now with this your post, my late aunt bought volkswagen beetle (tear nylon) at the rate of 4000naira, I also recall another family friend to my own family was also a PAN auto dealer, he goes to kaduna with all his drivers and buy brand new Peugeot sedan cars for sell in the Nigerdelta, the cars will line up all the way from kaduna to the Niger delta where he had a showroom, moreover, what you describe about ibadan is replicate all over Nigeria, voicing out opinions about the country is in order, maybe some policy makers can get the message and start to address all this sickening complaints, furthermore, I agree with all your post, especially the later part, I also don't know why the few elites who were trained abroad still come back and get enmeshed in corruption, it beats my imagination, could it be that they can't really function or adapt well to the acaaig system in governance without doing what others are doing or it is a case of if you don't join us to loot, we won't allow you to function properly in your role, I don't really have the answers but truth most be told, the country is currently in auto reverse and the leaders are bereft of ideas, it is just few people that are enjoying the country the majority are suffering and smiling, hoping against hope but when will their hope be assuaged with the basic necessities of life, I don't know, like the late Bola lge once said, make l siddon dey look sad

when companies are closing down from Nigeria. Nobody wants to invest in a country without policy direction. the cost of doing business here is out of this world: u provide ur power, ur access road, ur security, pay the community ppl and all manner of spending.
a country where banks give loans on interest as high as 28%. am tired of talking about here

My Nephew and I got into a conversation on my last trip home. He feels like they are living large now in Ibadan with Shoprite and a few nightspots.

I had to tell him that before I left Ibadan there were:

Leventis
Kingsway
UTC - 2 stores
Queen Cinema
Odeon Cinema

Zoo was a real zoo, not this one where the animals look underfed (who remembers Haruna the Gorila).

All functioning very well cool

Thanks.

I've decided to go all Nigeria, where possible, at least on the guest quaarters.

The paint scheme should tie it all together when I get to that.

@bold....God bless u sir

You are spot on, during my visit to Nigeria, l rushed to Ghana for few days, I was flabbergasted at what I saw, they don't have too much resources but the country is far organized than the sleeping giant, I will voice out my opinion about Nigeria as l see and witness it, if I have access to meet Osibanjo or Buhari I will tell them the same thing, you can't close my mouth or hold my hands not to post and express my displeasure at what is going on in Nigeria, l have family members and friends and I see the sufferings in their eyes, even those that earn good income are not smiling either, businesses are moving at a snail speed and many have also closed shop, why not bring the colonial master back to govern the jungle because I know they did well before they left and ever since they left, vultures and scorpions are the useless leaders inflicting pain on the populace sad

EgunMogaji:

My Nephew and I got into a conversation on my last trip home. He feels like they are living large now in Ibadan with Shoprite and a few nightspots.

I had to tell him that before I left Ibadan there were:

Leventis
Kingsway
UTC - 2 stores
Queen Cinema
Odeon Cinema
Scala Cinema
KS Cinema
Zoo was a real zoo, not this one where the animals look underfed (who remembers Haruna the Gorila).
EgunMogaji please it is enough, I feel like crying now, you are bringing past memories to me, l recall visiting leventis, Kingsway, UTC stores in Kano, l also watched movies at Queen cinema in kaduna, oh my gosh embarassed sad embarassed
