Bro...please can u put me through to this (Toilet, door & kitchen sink)?
Where and when did you get them? I need them in Ibadan too.

Go and see Uche, his shop is behind Onado FIling Station at Iyaganku.

For your first time, be patient and wait to speak to him, he's very busy. Tell him what you're building and your taste and expectations. He'll then recommend stuff to you and may then pass you off to one of his numerous boys. If you talk to the boys direct they may just sell you substandard product because some members of the society are after the cheapest shyte they can buy angry

I recommend him without ANY reservation.

After you're done shopping then look for a cool joint just up the street along the 110 road. They have the coldest Star in town cheesy

Since you said you never see how they look like, below is how they look like...

1. HIP (Pitched Roof) style roof
2. Flat Style roof

Advantages and Disadvantages:

HIP Roof (Pitched Roof)
Cost More
Difficult to Repair and Clean due to it's height
More Structure and Stability
Reduces Heat because of height
Reduces Sound effect
Effective/Excellent Drainage of Water
Affordable in Long term
Longer life span
You can make use of the Attic space for storage etc.
Aesthetically appealing

Flat Roof
Cost less
Drainage not quite effective
Easily Clogged leading to damage and leaks (if not regularly inspected)
Easy to Clean and repair
Leakage if NOT done properly from the onset
Practical if living in area with little rainfall

I am sure other people can add to the above.

Photos, compliments of: Fippycbk (one of our resident Architect here on Nairaland)

Hajji M.

Thanks for your contribution.

Since "availability of funds" (Efficient Economy) is what led the poster to request for more information on type of Roof to chose, l will focus more on how he can achieve his aim (efficient and low cost Roof) while still getting "value for money" that is, without all the possible downside of Flat Roof.

1.) Water runs down a SLOPE and the rate at which it will run down, depends on the GRADIENT of the Slope.
This gradient, is also a factor in the "high cost" of Heaped Roof.
so, we must strike a balance, whereby we enjoy the "benefit of gradient" of a Heap Roof (quick run-off), enjoy the benefit of a Flat Roof (low cost) and avoid the "negatives" of the Flat Roof (Clogging, Leakage and ineffective drainage IFF not properly done)

2.) There is a minimum slope to which the flat Roof must be tilted, that gurrantees minimum cost and most effective drainage slope.
This slope is "optimum angle" tha will ensure that you get the benefit of a heaped Roof and the benefit (minus the disadvantages) of a Flat Roof.

So Bro, let your Roof tilt at an Angle of between 45^ and 38^ (between 45-degrees and 38-degrees).
This will ensure that the water does not stay long enough to allow any form of clogging, rustiness due to water retention, ineffective drainage which leads to leakage (all this grammar sef! angry )

I think (?) @Egunmogaji used a flat roof and his Roofing could be a standard you can copy.

*Flat roof also has Attic space that you can convert for usage, just like Heaped roof (You just get like 60% of the space)
*Heaped Roof does not have a longer life span that Flat Roof that is properly tilted.
*In-fact, all the advantages of a heaped Roof are also applicable to a properly done Flat Roof!
Just think of a Flat Roof, as a half-Section of a heaped Roof

Caveat: Please understand that a Flat Roof is more prone t )o being blown off-and-away IFF NOT TIED DOWN PROPERLY using those Flexible, Flat binders (I dont know the English name for it but my people call it Oja'agba.
You MUST tie it down properly, from the planks that lay on the Blockwork, to those that act as trusses. Nail and tie everything down properly please.
The 'windstorms; of today are not as friendly as those of years gone-by. They dont smile at all. undecided

For those considering slope roof, this is a good thread

Slope roof consumes less materials, a major advantage.
But i wouldn't advise it for large buildings though.
It makes large buildings to look plain...don't know if it is just me.
Especially duplex...

The man is ill, he handed over to his deputy so he can rest, yet you guys say that is not enough!
What manner of rest is it again, than being in Hospital for the past few months or should he go and rest in heaven? angry
Why dont you just come out openly that what you really want is a "change of Govt" so you can achieve, that which you lost at the polls?
Na waa for you "People-Deceiving-People" (PDP) folks o!
This hypocrisy stinks to high heavens and to think that most of you lost your voice in the last six years before Buhari came to office?
shocked shocked

As far as you are concerned, Buhari is responsible for all the woes of this country!
That is most unfair.

This is where "Me and You" defer.

Okay, l agree with you: We have a lot of problems and we should not "hide them and pretend all is well".
And l also agree that you were responding to another post.

But you should also agree that using Buhari's health situation to buttress your point was not very good.
All the Problems of Nigeria that you highlighted are true and you will also agree with me that THEY ARE CAUSED BY CORRUPTION.

If we both agree with the above, then we should also agree that though Buhari is not a "saint" but he is by far the only Nigerian leader that has shown "any attempt" to even tackle corruption:
1.) from insisting that all Ministries" and Govt Agencies should stop the usual "finish the budget allocation on Dec 31, irrespective of what you do with it"...instead, Buhari instituted the Single Treasury Account, whereby though the money is budgeted but if not spent, it must be returned to the treasury!
It also ensures that ALL INCOMES and EXPENDITURES of the Govt goes to/through a Single Govt Account. You can only imagine the effect of this when you realise that some Govt Agencies have up to 48 HIDDEN BANK ACCOUNTS! Where only the D.G, head of Finance and maybe another caucus members knows about.

2.) It is only Buhari that has boldly challenged Corruption, even refusing the New vehicles he was given and saying "Since the old ones used by Jonathan are still working, he would continue to use them".
he also sold-off some of the fleets of Aircrafts acquired by previous Govt, reducing the number to 4, from around fifteen!

3.) He is the only one who made "Corrupt Judges", as powerful and almighty as they are, to know that they are not completely untouchable

4.) He was the only one who could touch "the high and mighty thieves" in our system though the EFCC needs to be more pro-active, less noisy and use "scientific evidence/methods" to mail criminals.

I can go on and on but my Wife has just issued a fatwa on me, to come to bed right now! grin grin

It is for these reasons that "they got to him" very quickly and he has to be hospitalised.
Just think about the number of criminals that would shout hallelujah, if Buhari were to die today! undecided

Now, he did all these, took all the "bullets" for the sake of our country.
How does it now feel that it is the "same we" that will ridicule him everywhere by passing such snide remarks, about his health?
Do you think Buahri loves being in the U.K while his tenor, which he has fought for, and lost three times in the past, is wasted or used on his behalf, by another person (though his assistant)?
Dont you know that Buhari will love nothing more than to leave a lasting legacy (like J. J. Rawlings) in Nigeria, now that he is nearing his end, as a result of old age?

Do you not think that Buahri will rather be in his "other room" with Aisha, than be in a cold London hospital?

Buhari has always been a healthy man with spartan lifestyle so, for him to have undergone a few blood transfusion is an indication that he was "reborn" and his system was completely destroyed.

What the man needs is our prayers, even when we see to our chagrin that the Evil doers have kind of succeeded.
A lot of things are happening today that we all felt disappointed ..in the CHANGE we voted for but we all know that if Buhari was to be "sound and healthy", majority of these things would never happen. Who born Monkey?

In summary Sir, l am sorry if l offended you, l am also not a politician though l take absolute interest in the success of my country and her well-being.
Just imagine, that we had to dig-deep to a retired, 73yr old man, (after searching everywhere and found none that could effect the desired change) to come to our rescue!
What does that say about the level of decadence amongst our younger ones?
Kidnapping and looting everywhere!

Buhari that took office in 2015 is no longer the same person we see now, he has been weakened but is it Saraki that we want to use as replacement? God forbid!
Even a weakened Buhari (playing at the background, with Prof. Osinbajo doing the heavy lifting for him and on his behalf) is still preferable to all the thieves l see around, circling like vultures, waiting to pounce.

Let us not face each other, our common enemies are in the Senate, the Governors, Ministers, public servants who take bribe, Police, e.t.c.
I will reserve my anger for those ones.

Between me and YOU, its a good, firm handshake.

Firm handshake indeed, this is how two mature men resolved issue of mutual interest. Abeg go face your wife fatwa jare.

Please expand on this. I was under the impression that you wanted to keep these systems separate so that any lightening action on the arrestor would not affect the electronics (earth grounding). We've got a solar installation, where the negative of the panels are eventually routed to earth ground.

The grounded part of Solar panels originate from the chassis or Aluminium frame and not the negative terminal

44chux:

Its the other way round.

If the ground has enough conductivity, it will quickly absorb all the high voltage, but if not (as is normally the case), then hv will want to also use ur earthing system to ground itself, but because the path of least electrical resistance to ur earthing system is through ur household electrical equipments, it will arc back to the nearest wire to pass through them to get to ground via the earthing

However if your earthing system has a direct underground link to the lightening system, that becomes the path of least resistance and the high voltage flows underground to the earthing system and equally grounded to earth there. So in essence, both the lightening rods piled to the ground, and the house earthing system equally share the job of safely transmitting the lightening strike to ground.

At that microsecond, all the electrical equipment earthed in the house receive that hv on their earthing / chassis but there is no danger as there is no current flow. And if someone was to touch that equipment at that time, nothing would happen because there will always be least resistance at the earthing system than through the person's feet.

No lightening protection is better than an incomplete lightening protection.

In Ibadan, time stood still since 1986 till now. In certain areas it even went backwards.

The changes are as follows:

Before:
There were as such as brand new tear rubber Nissan/Toyota/Mazda/Mitsubishi public transport
There were landlines at homes
Running water
Semi constant electricity, I never remember wearing an unironed shirt to work, ever

After:
Cellphone, but they created mounds of trash from the charge cards
No running water
Electricity is now worse, IMHO
Used cars all over the place.

Not sure if anybody remembers the spectacle in the 80's when new cars are being driven in convoy from the ports with all the reckless driving and accidents.

I love Nigeria and retiring to Nigeria in a few years because of personal reasons, not because it offers a better lifestyle for me.

Incidentally, what is saddening to me is seeing leaders that studied abroad, lived abroad for many years but as soon as they get in a position of authority they become corrupt too. Tell me if that is not a curse.

Ordinary Ethiopia, war torned Ethiopia has a world class national airline.
I think we had passed that stage 26 years ago.

I am still wondering how your kind and lot are able to maintain several monikeer doing the kind of thing they do. It is only those without eyes that cannot tell the difference.

Kindly use your dictionary for the definition of a backbiter to know more. If I praise a man for a nice job and I spot an attitude else where I will respond.

I still want to believe this thread is a place where ideas are exchanged for the benefit of all, disagree to agree on certain work patterns and move ahead for the better good.

Rather than talk politics on this thread, let us talk about the politics of building materials pricing. Did you all notice that building materials manufacturers has formed a strong cartel and are milking us all to death since the last 2 years? It started with Dangote, Lafarge, Bua and Ibeto agreeing to unify their prices so none of them can reduce to create a competition that will benefit the masses and hurt their bottom line.

Now, rod makers have been alleged to meet and fix selling prices so as to benefit them, that is the reason for the recent increases across board in costs from all rods manufacturers in the last 2 weeks. What is the minister for science and industry doing to alleviate the pains of the masses, do e just fold our hands and watch instead of finding solutions to this high prices?

You're missing sales due to lack of understanding of basic ecommerce 101.

You have a captive audience, instead of siphoning this one client off to WhatsApp, the savvy seller would instead create a thread (it's free and unlimited space), load it up with samples of your wares and prices.

Then you would hope to not only get the one client but many more that might validate that you do have affordable prices and make purchases.

Why you Naija sellers always do this befuddles me.

You are in front of validated, verified and guaranteed buyers that are actively engaged in building.

Noted sir, thanks a lot.

Hmmmm, it is time for me to go and learn from my great grandfather how he erected a building with mud and clay and it is still standing in the village, no more cement and iron rods for building, Dangote and his gang of shylocks business men should eat their cement Lol, but seriously, I doubt if Dangote and others will come down with their prices because the cost of doing business in Nigeria is freaking expensive, the banks lending rate and interest is not favourable and when you add other miscellaneous expenses incured in the production and distribution chain, it becomes a herculean task to survive as a business man in Nigeria, the only good business in Nigeria now is politics because you are guaranteed a pathway to steal, Rob and loot the treasury grin tongue
