These 2 pictures may kindly explain.

- Pic 1, note the suspension of the RG 31 Mk5, a similar class vehicle. Note those obstacles the vehicle passes through. (that's just for show, testing is done on something bigger)

- Pic 2, note this vehicle flatting an incline. Only high suspension vehicles (on longer wheel base) pass this basic test.

As you said, it's a prototype and field testing is yet to be done and modifications would be expected which is perfectly fine.

Nice 1

The mastiff is also low. I however find AK point to be interesting but let us take note the fact that ARA is very heavy so won't having enough space to the ground cause more issues?

We would have to wait and see what the outcome of state trials is. End user feedback will determine progress.

The Mastiff i posted is just to show that, that isn't an issue.

However!! it's 6x6 so it's lower ground clearance is partially negated by its ramp break over angle which should be decent thanks to the extra axle!

In off roading ramp break over>ground clearance!!

Man, a 6x6 variant is not much of an issue. In my opinion Proforce needs to design and manufacture a vehicle like the Nimr Ajban 440A in addition to the military version of the PF2 APC.

A vehicle that would allow us rapidly deploy light armour quickly.

After that, a wheeled 6x6 IFV with a 35mm or 40mm combat system.
It totally agree.
We need something to phase out pickup trucks from frontline duty, I think they should be relegated to logistics.

Ahh I see what you’re saying, this is a problem that can be easily fixed no ?

Bigger tires
Improved suspension
Reduce size of the external storage compartments... etc

We cannot say what is or isn't a problem until evaluations are complete.

As can be seen on the Mastiff, designs differ. This one is even much lower.

My humble submission.

SAAF

There was an entire exercise with pretty much all SAAF assests, Navy frigates and more. It ended today. But I don't think anyone got any pics. cry

That's what I was following. It's the biggest military exercise this year. I don't know why they kept it under wraps.

The official photo release won't be anything above half a dozen photos, I believe.

The location is Mkhuze, KwaZulu Natal. The Army and SAAF is there

Ground Clearance isn't that important if you have a good ramp break over angle.....in other words the shorter the wheel base the lower the ground clearance can be and still have a competitive ramp break over angle.

HOWEVER!! according to the dimensions you provided the ARA has a ground clearance is only 250mm......That's very very very low!!

Even the Mastiff has a ground clearance of 400mm!!

The ARA is 25mm ground clearance at 6.8m length , the Cougar is 410mm clearance at 5.9m

The Cougar Ridgeback is shorter but with higher ground clearance than the ARA..

Calm down.

The Ara has good ground clearance, have a look at the chassis its the storage compartment thats deceiving you.
by the way this is only the first prototype

To the South Africans here. Just read about your red alert on Grace Mugabe. What happened to her diplomatic immunity?

Are you trying to say if the Zimbabwean govt has to send a presidential aircraft to take her out, you'll have the aircraft grounded?

Note : Diplomatic immutiny. You can't search the aircraft too.

Since it's a prototype, and the guys who design this often come to this thread (I believe). I can give my recommendations to them.

1. Obviously shift the compartments levels up, even by another extra 250mm

2. The compartments should not be welded on the hull, the hull becomes compromised during blasts. They should rather modular fit them, during blasts the little spacing passes off some blast energy BUT when the blast is bigger they fly off without damaging the hull.... Also, they're easily replaced when damaged by RPGs (at a distance) or small arms.

3. The location of the exhaust system (between the wheels) should be changed if they consider crossing rivers with the vehicle.

Those are my humble suggestions. Thanks

No one knows what's really happening. You know how things are on this continent, "brothers" help each other. She's going to leave SA, whatever red alert lie the government tells us.

But the Zim aircraft landing would be irrelevant if it landed. There are thousands of places to arrest her before she even sets foot on the tarmac.

If I'm not mistaken that's a farming airport (for sugarcane treating) converted into a temporal airforce facility.

There's another farming airport 65km north of this one and a handful in a 200km radius. This would explain why there's more airports in the country than in China. (according to the CIA)

Of course, the fact that a military assault vehicle that's 2,5m high can't climb an obstacle that's about a class ruler high placed in front of it is not a design problem to you.....then who are we to judge your reasoning capacity cool

I really like the bolded part. It makes a lot of sense if the storage is detachable during blast.
